Social experiment #2 complete. Thanks for all of you who hazarded a guess about the age of David Anders, aka Julian Sark from Alias. Most of you guessed in the 30s bracket, which is what I thought he was. Or late 20s, at least. I recently found out that he only just turned 23, and that when he started on the show he couldn't even drink legally. :O

[livejournal.com profile] ropo, however, took one look at my icon and asked Jade who the "child" in my icon was (because the joke is that I like 'em young), apparently thinking he was 13 (she has since said she was thinking more like 17, but I'm not sure I believe her). She said he could be Draco's younger brother!!! O_O Now, I thought that was taking things too far, and thus brought it to other people. Thank you for not saying he looks 13.

You support brings tears to my eyes, which is why it's now time for ...

1. What scene in which movie is guaranteed to make you cry?

Movies make me cry more easily than any other entertainment medium.

I cry every time in Beaches when Barbara Hershey dies. Also when Julia Roberts dies in Steel Magnolias and Sally Field has that big emotional speech. Sometimes I can even still cry when Jack dies in Titanic. And the one movie that never, ever fails to get me totally blubbery: E.T. When he's lying there on the table? And little Drew starts to cry? *gets a little verklempt just thinking about it*

Geez, those were all death related. Okay, here are some scenes that make me cry, non-death related: When the best friend dude tells Keira how he feels about her, through placards, in Love, Actually. When Bridget's mum and dad get back together in Bridget Jones's Diary. (Yes, odd one, isn't it?) I also cried several times during 50 First Dates, particularly when Drew is showing Adam all the painting she's done, and at the end when she "meets" her daughter. And perhaps most surprisingly, Meryl and Clint make me cry my eyes out during The Bridges of Madison County.

Funniest/lamest sobbing I ever did during a movie: I was younger, and bawled my head off when the robot "died" in Short Circuit 3. Movie in which I cried a lot but can't now remember why: Life as a House.

2. What scene in which television show makes you tear up no matter how many times you've seen it?

Like [livejournal.com profile] corianderstem, Anya's fruit punch speech in "The Body" (BtVS) always makes me cry. If it weren't so long ago, I could probably name lots of episodes of The Wonder Years, since when it was on, it never failed to bring me to tears every damn week. But I can't remember recently crying over anything on TV.

3. Is there any famous tearjerker of a scene that leaves you cold? Or worse, makes you laugh?

Probably any tearjerker scene you can think of from any old movie. Old movies just don't do it for me; they usually leave me feeling indifferent if they're lucky, cheesed out if they're not.

A modern one: A.I. OMG that movie was bad. I was probably supposed to feel sorry for little Haley Joel, but I really didn't.

Also, when Mulder cries at Scully's bedside in "Redux II"??? V. touching moment, and I LOVE it, but he kind of makes me want to laugh.

4. Do you cry when a character on screen cries, or is it something else that gets the tears flowing?

Other people crying will usually provoke a response in me, but the characters/situation has to be right. And the actor has to do it well (see above re: David Duchovny's bedside crying). But it's definitely circumstances that get to me more than anything else.

5. One fic that makes you cry -- and we may as well stipulate right now: "Grace Realized" makes *everyone* cry. Pick another one.

Er, "Grace Realized" did not make me cry. The cancerarc was overwrought and did nothing for me. Fic -- not books, but fic -- has rarely made me cry. Back in the XF days, one of Branwell's novels made me cry -- I think it was "Condemned to Repeat It"?

HP ... I cried at one point during "Draco Sinister." I cannot at all recall when/why, but I know it happened because I was so stunned I was actually crying. Since then, I haven't cried over any HP fic ... the closest I've come was Jade's "Life Canvas."

Now I want to do more movie memes. What are your favorite monologues... What are your favorite funny scenes... Which scenes made an otherwise forgettable movie great... etc.

Is it a joke if it's true? I don't think it's a joke in your case.

I know, it's like she sat for the graphic engineer who designed the y!m emoticons and he kept saying, "Don't you just love D/Hr" the entire time.

A Computer In Time

On a big and hilarious morning, Amelia sat in midair. It was Valentine's Day and she was all alone. Her cock ached in sorrow for the secret love that she could never share. How could she expect Lucius to love someone with a dark armpit?

Lightly, she began to recite a poem she had composed. "Ah, my love is like a juvenile short scissors, all on a summer's day. I wish my Lucius would pitch me, in his own skanky way..."

"Do you?" Lucius sat down beside Amelia and put his hand on Amelia's ovaries. "I think that could be arranged."

Amelia gasped softly. "But what about my dark armpit?"

"I like it," Lucius said amorously. "I think it's trite."

They came together and their kiss was like a junebug frolicking in a pond of ice water and glue.

"I love you," Amelia said maddeningly.

"I love you too," Lucius replied and pitched her.

They bought a Hippogriff, moved in together, and lived briskly ever after.

You've discovered my dark secret.

Yes, I use short scissors.

Also, a hearty fuck you to LJ for not sending me email notices on this stuff. Sheesh.

Best story ever.

There was another one where you pressed your lips to his cock, but I thought this one resonated more.

LJ's such a skanky bitch. It's been PMSing all day.

I don't know, I can resonate pretty well with Lucius' cock, I think.

DAMN. I missed the, as you'd call 'em, "social experiment." Ah well. :D Maybe I'll catch the next.

And OHMYGOD at David Anders only being 23!! Well, it's not too far from what I thought his age was. I was thinking late 20s but- *shrugs* But LOL at [livejournal.com profile] ropo's comment about his age and appearance! Needed a good laugh. Thanks for sharing. And just in case you're thinking it, I DO NOT think he looks 13.
