A neat opportunity for me...
Aug. 26th, 2014 02:24 pmI was reading an article on Field Gulls today... it was one of those ones I really enjoy that broke down specific plays from a game. I understand the basics of football very well, but some of the strategies and concepts... woosh! There's a lot more going on than what I see on the field.
Anyway, at the end of the article the author mentioned he was going to be doing more of these, but needed some help with gifs. I thought that would be a really fun thing to help with, even though gifs take a LOT of time. But I really enjoy Field Gulls and the idea of being able to chip in there makes me happy (of course, months down the line when this becomes a chore, I may be singing a different tune...).
I felt sure that they would already have gotten some volunteers, and I'd be told that they were set. But I've been going back and forth with the writer, and so far it seems that I'm signed up to help! (Eee!)
I didn't send any samples or anything, and it took him awhile to ask for one. That's where I was like, uhhh... be happy to do up a football-related one for you tonight. He probably finds it strange that someone who professes to know how to make gifs doesn't have samples at the ready, but I'm too embarrassed. I mean, what am I supposed to do, send him these shipping gifs from Teen Wolf that I did?
I hope my amateur gifing skills are up to the challenge. I know how to do them, but I'm no Photoshop expert, and they have a 15MB limit. One of the things I've always struggled with when making gifs is keeping them at a decent size while still retaining image quality. I guess we'll see! My sample assignment is the Jeremy Lane interception from the Bears preseason game.
I realize it's a bit ridiculous to be this excited over the chance to donate my own time and energy, lol. I wish I felt this way about my actual work.

Date: 2014-08-27 11:01 pm (UTC)Also, excitement! I also think they would have appreciated the Teen Wolf gifs. The gifs that show up in the Field Gulls comment section, and on Twitter, are from all kinds of fandoms ;D (ETA: This is one of the reasons why I say that XD)
Good luck!

Date: 2014-08-27 11:11 pm (UTC)I practically live at Field Gulls, and agree re Danny Kelly, Davis Hsu, and today's article from Travis Williams was pretty frickin sweet as well. The author I'm working with is Joshua Kasparek, who did an Xs and Os post yesterday on some of the defensive plays from the Bears game.
Re: Twitter, I still don't do it. >< I know I'm missing out, but social is just way too much work for me. Maybe one day. I see the tweets that people bother to repost in those threads. And hahaha yeah, I know all sorts of random gifs are shared, but usually it's for humor, whereas in my case it's supposed to be an example of my gifing work, and that would have been too embarrassing (for me).
Anyway, I ended up just doing the Jeremy Lane INT gif that he wanted, so we'll see what happens from here.

Date: 2014-08-27 11:17 pm (UTC)I haven't read that one yet. I want to listen to that podcast someone posted. Supposed to be pretty in depth. Did you see that none of the CBS football analysts picked the Seahawks to make it to the Super Bowl?!? Only one even had them winning the NFC West. No respect, man. *shakes head*
Also, this, but embedded, cuz it's that amusing (at least to me XD)

Date: 2014-08-27 11:25 pm (UTC)I didn't make those gifs to be ironic; I made them because I'm actually into Teen Wolf! Haha.
I'm actually glad when analysts and what not are down on the Hawks. They play better when they feel they're not being respected, as you well know. ;) We gotta keep those chips on their shoulders.
I read this NFL article yesterday in which the author concludes, "What we'll be saying in February: The Seahawks just became the first team since the 2004 Patriots to win back-to-back Super Bowls. It's official. There is a nascent dynasty in Seattle." Which was awesome at the same time that it was terrifying.
However, I am not good enough of a person to not take some delight in how terrible the Niners look in the preseason.
