The photos taken of me,
adelagia, and
slitherhither with Doug Baldwin and KJ Wright at the Microsoft Store event are finally up! Woohoo! All the photos from the event are here. We are three of the many, many shots. :))))
- We went because I read about it at The Seattle Times, and Bellevue Square is right around the corner where we normally have hot pot. We figured if we went and it was a mob scene, we could just leave and at least we wouldn't have made a crazy out-of-the-way trek.
- Also, Angry Doug Baldwin is B.'s favorite player, so it was worth a shot. (She alternately kept saying that she was going to pass out, or throw up, from nerves/anticipation.)
- In fact, I took some of the footage from the event, intercut it with ADB highlights, and made a shipper video! A stand-in was used for B.'s image. (Warning: This video is completely ridiculous.)
- When we got there, pre-festivities had already started. We were given raffle tickets and told that the first 150 people in this existing line would get signed photos, but that there were already that many people. I wasn't convinced that was the case, so we went to get in line anyway... then was told by another official person that the first 150 people had already been given special tickets, so there was no point standing in line, but we could always go into the store and observe.
- In the store, there was an ice cream stand that gave away free ice cream sandwiches from Sweet Wheels. Both T. and I got the Xke sandwich, at the rec of the girl manning the station, and it was reallllllly good. Coconut ice cream with salted oatmeal cookies. MMM. We'd just eaten lunch though, so it was a chore to finish it, as it was fairly large. ><
- While attempting to stuff this ice cream sandwich into my mouth and talking to a salesperson about preordering Madden 15, there was a sudden commotion and when I turned my head, Doug Baldwin was WALKING RIGHT PAST ME. INCHES AWAY. Oh, I was *so* annoyed with myself for talking about stupid Madden 15 when I could have taken an awesome shot of ADB. Argh!! T. tried, but... well... he was barely in the frame. :)))
- I took a ton of photos and video during the time before they thought to rope off the area where the celebs were standing and taking photos with people. :D
- After awhile it got old recording things of other people getting to take pictures with them, so I stopped. At this point, T. came back in to say that they'd been talking with some people outside, and apparently they were going to try and get as many people in to take photos with them as possible! CONTRARY TO WHAT WE'D BEEN TOLD, OR WE WOULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN IN LINE! So frustrating, argh. Despite the fact that B. wasn't sure she really wanted to do it (much like Troy in his feelings about meeting Levar Burton), we got in line. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to get in; if that happened, they would have to deal with Angry Sarea Okelani because they had LIED TO US in the beginning. But they ended up cutting it off not too many people behind us.
- We devised a plan. Since T. cared the least about the Seahawks, she would go first, so that by the time she was done, she could take a pic of me and B. after her. She even took my camera up with her for the picture taking. One of the store helpers was taking people's purses and what not while their pictures were being taken, but T. refused to let go of the camera. ADB even had a convo with her about it:
HE FEELS HER. OMG.
- But happily, we got to feel him right back. ;) Both T. and I put our arms around Doug and KJ, whereas B. was apparently too nervous to do such a thing. :))))) My left hand has touched Doug Baldwin! My right hand has touched KJ Wright! Aaaahhhhhhhhhh.
- They hurried us off so quickly that I wasn't able to say even the few words I had planned, which was to congratulate ADB on his new contract, and to tell KJ that he's one of my favorite players. He's an amazing linebacker, but he doesn't get nearly as many accolades as his teammates do. There were lots of people there with 89 jerseys, but none with 50 (I don't even know if they make KJ jerseys). So that was kind of a bummer; I wish I'd just done it.
- KJ wasn't even supposed to be there, originally. It was supposed to be Derrick Coleman, Seattle's deaf fullback, but he couldn't make it for some reason. As far as players go, KJ definitely is higher up the food chain; he's a primary starter while DC is a special teams role player, for the most part. Derrick did make the most amazing ad for Duracell, though. Check it out:
- They rushed us so much that T. was unable to get any shots of me and B. with the players, so we had to depend on the Microsoft Store's photographer to upload what he had to Facebook.
- Both players were very nice and polite, even by the time we got to them. I have to give them kudos for that because it must be sooooo boring and weird to have to stand somewhere for an hour to take pictures with a bunch of random strangers. I mean, you must kind of feel like an attraction at a carnival, you know? ADB greeted me with a, "Hi, how are you?" and afterward when I thanked them for the photo op, KJ nicely said, "Thank YOU." <3
- Later, as we were eating frozen yogurt (this was after trying a new dumpling place near Crossroads, called Dough Zone. It was good, but we went early to avoid the crowd; if I had to wait a really long time I'd rather wait for Din Tai Fung) and crazily checking the Microsoft Store Facebook page for the photos, we had the ensuing conversation:
ALSO!!! The three of us are going to Richard Sherman's Celebrity Softball Game!! We have some reallllllly nice seats. I hope they're letting people bring their cameras, because I just bought a 55-300mm zoom lens, which will hopefully help me get some really good shots. Like, I-can-see-their-pores kind of good shots.
All sorts of awesome players are scheduled to be there, but I will only be disappointed if Earl doesn't end up showing. HE BETTER SHOW.
Also, it's unclear whether they're actually going to play a full game, or just wander around in baseball uniforms. I mean, is it allowed for NFL players (or players of any sport) to play other games during the offseason? What if they get injured?? That seems risky. I mean, even a softball, if it hits you in the face or joint, can do a ton of harm. Also, all the Seahawks are so insanely competitive, I can see them start fighting with one another on the field, even for a frou frou charity game. :)))

T: If I don't look too crazy, I may actually post this photo to Facebook.
Me: Hello, I'm sorry, but YOU LOOK TOTALLY CRAZY. You are the girl who wouldn't let go of her camera! *pantomimes ADB wrestling with her for the camera*
Me: I am so excited that my hands have touched ADB and KJ. B., did you put your arms around them?
B: *dazed look* I have no idea.
Me: It's okay. I would've been the same way had it been Earl Thomas. I would have thrown my arms around him and everyone would be yelling "Security! Security!" as they dragged me off his leg.
