Yay for today!
Feb. 22nd, 2004 04:27 pmToday was a happy day. You know those days when you just feel like all is right w/ the world? Today's one of those. First of all, it was 60 degrees and absolutely GORGEOUS outside. If I hadn't made plans w/ J., I might never have ventured out, so I'm so glad I did, even if it meant I had to set my alarm on a weekend. The lake was so fucking blue, the skies looked like it was summer, and there were snow-capped mountains in the distance. Of course, if every day were like this, I would probably cease to appreciate it.
In any case, after lunch we met up w/ J.'s roommate, and we all went to see 50 First Dates. If you know me at all (or have read a journal entry in which I've said this), I typically don't like (okay, despise) romantic comedies. They're usually completely asinine to me. But OMG I loved this movie. Loved, loved. I don't even know why. I make no excuses. I'm sure there were many things wrong w/ it that I could get into, but I don't think I will. It was ridiculous, half the theater was in tears. And now I just feel lalala happy!!!
Yesterday, saw Master and Commander. I didn't despise it the way Jade did; in fact, you could probably even say I liked it. I think I liked LiT more, but it's pretty close. I don't know why either movie was nominated for an Oscar before something like Whale Rider, but I'm not a movie critic. All I know is what I like. Unfortunately, I also saw Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Okay -- I like Lindsay Lohan. (And if she were British, I think she'd make a perfect Ginny.) But this movie was UTTERLY AWFUL. I have the book, but haven't read it yet, and now I'm not even sure I want to. The only reason why I haven't already dumped it in my "sell" pile is because I knew, the second the opening credits came on screen and I saw "Walt Disney Pictures," I knew it was probably going to be bad. Any real personality would be sucked away by Disney (JUST LIKE what they did to The Princess Diaires) ... and damn if that wasn't exactly the case. At least, that's what I'm hoping for the book's sake.
Now I'm going to take a little nap and wake up refreshed to try out some new recipes and do some writing. Why can't every day be like today?

Hmm. Let's see if I can guess before we talk. Is it that they don't try and tie everything up in a neat little bow? Well, they do, because it's a RomCom, but there were several things that I thought could have been done to make it a more typical RomCom, and had things work out just that much more perfectly, and they didn't. Or maybe because they actually worked at showing us all the little moments? Or--fine, I'll just wait for you. :))
