addictions
Feb. 12th, 2004 05:22 pmI have become addicted to coffee somehow. I've liked it for a long time, but I've never craved it every single day. The past two weeks, however, the first thing I think about when I wake up in the morning is getting a latte. I can make them myself, which would save $$, except I never actually wake up early enough to grind the espresso beans and go through the whole process.
My AtS S3 DVDs arrived yesterday, yay! It's got one of my favorite story arcs ever, so I'm really looking forward to watching them. I also rented the best of Farscape S1, so we'll see if I like those well enough to want to watch a whole season.
How bizarre/funny was the promo to next week's ep of AtS? Oh, how I wish the transformation happened to all the characters.
AtS: 1943
- The writing and the plot, such as it was, were tight. I enjoy that about DeKnight and Goddard; they know how to put an episode together. It's much cleaner and more enjoyable to watch than, say, the mess that is David Fury's writing. However, I can't say that I found myself all that entertained by this ep.
- The guy was a little bit souled because he got bitten by a vampire w/ a soul? Um, no, I can't really buy into that except in a guilty pleasure way. It actually makes zero sense.
- Why did Spike have dark hair? I guess it was just for novelty, because there was no reason for it, and they didn't even mention it. Just him saying, "*shrug* Wanted to try a new look" would have sufficed.
- The whole thing about them being "trapped" at the bottom of the ocean was so contrived. Um, Angel GOT DOWN THERE SOMEHOW. He's a vampire. Wasn't that why they sent him in, in the first place? Because the things that would affect a living man wouldn't affect him? I'm thinking if he just torpedoed himself out, it wouldn't have done him any harm. He had to bring the sub in, yes, but didn't they show that he didn't really care about that part? Spike or any of the other freed vamps could have also just left the sub on their own. So they'd get a little wet. Big deal.
- How did the vamps get free, anyway?
- Like Jade, I do enjoy that this was a precursor to the Initiative stuff, and I like that they kept continuity wrt 1) Spike not knowing about Angel's soul (although, can't vamps sniff that sort of thing out? Darla realized it right away); 2) Angel's indifference during that era.
- I was having serious problems w/ Lawson wanting to get revenge on Angel for making him a vamp, the same way I have problems w/ it when Dru implies the same thing. Because while their HUMAN incarnations might be bitter, AS VAMPS, they should be overjoyed by their living deadness. However, they took care of that w/ their little "I felt nothing" explanation because Lawson was sired by a souled vampire. However, that in itself was kind of a problem, as mentioned before.
- I was kind of bored by the whole thing. I mean, put together well or no, the entertainment value was just not there for me. It was so not a surprise that Lawson was a vamp ... and as for how it all happened, I couldn't bring myself to think anything more than, "Eh. Fine, whatever."
- The "threat" Lawson made wrt Fred et al was so not a threat. As if, if Angel had killed him, he wouldn't have found them eventually, taken off one of their gags, and had the situation explained to him by a brainy Fred. Please.
- The ending tried to be too meaningful. "A reason." WTF? A reason to what, kill himself? Why did he need one? How, exactly, did Angel give him one?
- Hmm, a sea vessel ... Nazis ... 1940s ... why does this sound so familiar? Oh yes, I've seen it before. It was called "Triangle" when it was an XF episode.
- Please, please let Muppet!Angel be a good ep.
I'm reading three different books at the moment, and they're all so different. Before I went to bed last night, I read a chapter each of: Angels and Demons, Slowness, and Dragonfly in Amber.
Can someone explain to me why shirts/sweaters now have tags on the side (as well as the neck), so that they rub against my skin, irritating it and making it itch?? Whose idea was that? I'd like to give you the beating you so richly deserve.
I didn't watch Smallville. It didn't hurt one bit.

I know they have all the cleaning information, because I'm always forgetting about that, and when I'm doing laundry I waste time looking for it on the neck tag! And exactly, why can't the instructions JUST BE THERE?
It was disappointing in a way, and yet ... it was pre-Fox 'n Dana XF, so it was also v., v. exciting. Mulder kissed Scully! Mulder wanted to kiss Scully! Mulder wanted to kiss her in case he never saw her again! Squee! Though, of course, the excitement has since worn off. :D

I don't know why they don't always consolidate the information. It would make it so much easier and I wouldn't be clutching at my side the whole day in a vain attempt to find some relief.
Oh, man, has the excitement worn off. And then he said he loved her...*sigh* It was like watching the hallway scene in the movie. Sigh sigh sigh. Goddamn bees.
