Malfoy's Potter tips to Cho girls

Why's he giving out advice to potential Chos, anyway? Perhaps to indulge my guilty-pleasure ship.

According to this, they're looking for girls with Southeast Asian descent. WTF really? I would have thought East Asian from her name, but what do I know?

And wait, so -- gah, I'm so not up on HP news. There were rumors a few weeks back that the kids had signed on for the GoF movie, but then it went back and forth over whether this was actually true or just a rumor, blah blah. But if they're holding casting auditions for Cho Chang this weekend, that means that the film's been greenlighted, right? And from the sound of things, Dan and everyone else will be back. Right?

Oh, whatever. I'm just excited/wary to see who they'll pick for Cho. If only I were 10 years younger and lived in London. Of course, if I played Cho I'd make the suggestion that she doesn't go for Harry because she's actually in love with his nemesis, and could she and Malfoy have a snog scene please?

And I want more pictures. Did Tom shoot up to 6'1" during filming? How did they "fix" that? Did the other people in his scenes have to stand on boxes? I mean, he's only supposed to be 13. He can't tower over his teachers.

I believe everyone will be back for the next movie. The only person there are doubts on is Tom...my friends and I are personally worried that he won't be back because he shaved his head, which isn't really his Dracoish look (as far as we know).

Hmm, surely there's been official word on him, if there has been on the others... You could see his being interviewed wrt Cho's casting as a positive sign -- if he weren't coming back, that would certainly be in poor taste. I don't think they'd make the decision based on his hair, though. Guys' hair grows pretty quickly and they're barely in pre-production at the moment. Anyway, I'm pretty sure he cut off all his hair after SS/PS or CoS, too. I think he likes to get rid of the skanky blondness ... because let's face it, when his regular dark hair grows in, the dual colors look awful.

Sure he can tower over his teachers. Kids do that all the time.

I agree with the picture thing - I want to see more pictures of him. Did you see the picture of him from 2/4 Empire movie awards thing? He was wearing all black! WHEHEHEHEHE.

He's going through that awkward teenage stage right now *sigh*

Okay, fine, he can, but I don't think they'd want him to. <g> Yes, I just saw the Empire photos ... the thing w/ Tom is that there are times when he's hot and times when he looks ... weird. That's the only way I can explain it. Anyway, he usually manages to be a cutie, though. :D

It is not his best look, but I suppose even he can't be beautiful all the time. The haircut isn't helping matters, but I think it'll be okay once his hair does grow back out. He just wanted to get rid of the awful bleched white hair. Just think of this way - when filming starts for GOF in April - his hair will be a nice length.

HEE! That's exactly what I told [livejournal.com profile] emiliap. His hair's going to grow quickly, although I don't know why he bothers to cut it when they're just going to ruin it again in a few months' time. I like how grudging you were to say that he can't be beautiful all the time. Hahahahahaha.

Hey! At least I can admit it! I know he has flaws, I just like to pretend he doesn't. >:)

I'm sure he did it so he wouldn't be so recognized - that white hair is like beacon. And many screaming fangirlies don't realize he does really have sandy brown hair. He keeps it pretty covered.

Btw, I'm writing V-Day ficage this weekend...

Cindy's Killer Pot Roast

From: [identity profile] rainpuddle13.livejournal.com
Oh Honey! I didn't know that you did!!! I'm so sorry!!!!! *hugs*

Cindy's Killer Pot Roast

1 pot roast cut of meat (I like bottom round)
1 can french onion soup mix
1 packet dry onion soup mix
up to 10 beef bullion cubes

The night before you want to serve it, seer meat on all sides over high heat in a heavy skillet until a brown crust forms. Place meat in a crockpot, add soup mixes and beef bullion cubes (2 or 3 for a a small (2-3 lbs roast - more for larger or tougher cuts of meat). Add enough water to cover roast. Set crockpot on low heat setting, allowing roast to cook all night and the next day. Larger cuts of meat might need the high setting for several hours. A few hours before you're ready to serve, you can cut up an onion to cook in the juices. The roast should fall apart when you go to take it out so be careful you don't get splashed.

Save the juice and meat for leftover hash - in a large sauce pan pull roast part, cover with juice, add a cut up onion, salt and pepper liberally. Simmer for an hour or until onion is tender. Disolve a cup of flour in hot water until it makes a loose paste (almost watery), slowly add to meat mixture, stirring frequently until a gravy is formed.

Serve with mashed potatoes and hot biscuits. :)

Freezes well.

Dude, I've taught fifth graders that were as tall as me. Of course, I'm only 5'3 but sometimes kids shoot up early. I think the real problem is that Draco is never mentioned as being really tall. I've always imagined him as on the short side.

We're the same height! It's like we're the same, only you're my evil twin. It's true, I never pictured canon Draco as being tall, either (except in fanfic, because in fanfic he is endowed with height and unmatched sexual prowess), but also, I'm just not sure that they want Draco being taller than Snape. Or, you know, towering over Harry. Though I do not know how tall Dan is these days.

I thought Dan was getting taller (and he has yet to hit his real growth spurt, I think), but I've always imagined Harry on the short side as well. But yeah, it's going to be weird if there's a huge difference between them.

Re:

From: [identity profile] sarea-okelani.livejournal.com
Oh, he definitely hasn't, being that he's younger and such. The reason Harry and Draco both have to be small -- because you're right, Harry's shrimpy too -- is because JKR has explicitly said that that's what makes him a good Seeker. Seekers are supposed to be light and small in build. So Harry, being an excellent Seeker, probably has an ideal Seeker build.

As for Draco, you could either say that 1) he's a good Seeker too, though not as good as Harry, and is therefore also shrimpy; or 2) he's not as good a Seeker as Harry, maybe because he doesn't have the ideal body frame, and we can all also feel free to imagine him taller/whatever since there's no reason he has to be small. See? I made sense in my head, but it's just not coming out that way. Sigh.

Since YOU corrupt ME with pictures of naked men online, I think it's pretty clear that YOU are the evil twin, not me.

Bitch, please. You're the one that's all slashy. CLEARLY, you've corrupted me. You are the evil twin. Never mind that we're four (maybe) years apart.

No, what you're saying makes sense. I tend to go with the theory that Draco just isn't a good Seeker regardless of his body type. I mean, he's better than most of the population of the universe, but amongst Seekers he's pretty average. It's fanon that's made him out to be QuidditchGod!Draco that's would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for that darn Harry.

I like using icons that make you go :-l

Date: 2004-02-07 12:07 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sarea-okelani.livejournal.com
Canon Draco probably isn't a good Seeker, period. Fanon has completely changed who he is. I know a lot of that is blamed on the fact that he's so two-dimensional that you could do practically anything w/ him, but let's face facts: A lot of FanonDraco's characteristics aren't just made up; they actually refute what we "know" about him. (Though we really only see him through Harry's eyes, yadda yadda -- we know those rationalizations too. <g>)

I can understand wanting to give him more depth. Flat villains aren't any fun. But I don't see anyone writing about small, average-looking, average-Quidditch-playing, average-student Draco with an inferiority complex who needs protectors and pulls the wings off flies just because he can. That's apparently not a character we want to give depth to, even though it could be done. It's just not fun to write or read about.

And -- I just thought of this -- he's supposed to be the anti-hero. Harry's peer arch-nemesis. That's no fun if he's just inferior in every way! We like thinking of them as equal but on opposite ends of the spectrum, because there's tension and possibility in that. Otherwise, we've got Harry, who's this big hero-type, and then annoying-gnat Draco, and that's just not very interesting. I mean, Superman's foil is Lex Luthor, and that wouldn't be suspenseful at all if Lex didn't have something that would prove threatening to Superman.

I'm slashy? YOU WERE THE ONE WHO LOOKED FOR THE TWINS.

I think a lot of the stories I read in fandom don't have him portrayed that way because that's not a Draco Ginny can get behind, which makes me wonder just why I love them or saw it possible that they be together in the first place.

Honestly? I have no idea how D/G gets into anyone's heads w/o having read something that "changed" Draco into someone you could see with her with. Just coming out of canon? NO WAY. The DT got me into D/G, but I know there are lots of people who got into D/G w/o ever having read it. I'm really curious to know how and why. If you read something that got you into the ship, what made you decide to read that story, anyway? Why did you find it appealing enough to click on it? Was it just the novelty/strangeness of Draco Malfoy and Ginny Weasley in a romantic relationship? (These are rhetorical questions posed to D/G shippers in general; I'm not trying to grill you. <g>)

That's not the slash I'm talking about AND YOU KNOW IT. You led me down this PRIMROSE PATH TO HELL.

I agree with you wrt how we want to perceive Draco as the anti-hero so we give him equal but opposite "powers" as Harry because that makes him interesting to write. However, and I get this idea from fametracker.com, I think the point of Draco is that he IS two-dimensional and flat. He's a childish enemy to Harry and his importance to Harry is only in childish ways (Quidditch and his friends). I don't think Harry really views Draco as "eeeeeevil" in the sense of LV or even Lovely Lucius. Draco's drastically reduced role in OotP sort of supports this. Once the shit hit the fan in OotP and Harry started thinking about "grownup" stuff, Draco's antics barely made a blip on his radar except when he was being assy on the "Nooooo One Expects the Spanish Inquisition!" squad.

Excuse me? You were always WAY slashier than I was. You found all the girl/girl pictures.

Alas, I agree wrt Draco's "importance" in the books -- in that, he doesn't have any. It was always easy to recognize that unless JKR did something more w/ him, he'd be doomed to being an irritating gnat who was barely a blip on Harry's radar, considering the looming threat of, you know, The Dark Lord. I just always thought that if she really didn't have any plans for Draco, why's he even as prominent as he is? Why'd she name him Draco, when that word is used elsewhere in the books for random things (like the school motto, and Gryffindor's first password)? And I'm okay w/ it being meaningless; it's just that JKR's been so careful w/ her symbology and hidden meanings and such that I'm paranoid one's passing me by.

I'm curious to see, with his father in prison, whether Draco will allow himself to be influenced by others around him (say, Snape), or whether his malevolence will be shown to be bone deep, and he'll continue down the path to Death Eaterdom.

Re: I like using icons that make me go :D

From: [identity profile] akscully.livejournal.com
I was slashy AFTER YOU STARTED IT. And "all the girl/girl pictures"? Please. I found, like, two. And I never heard you complaining about 'em.

I guess Draco can always become actually evil instead of merely annoying and bratty, but he's going to have to have a big change in book six to do so. With his father in jail, he can be influenced by Snape (maybe. I'm not convinced Snape would care enough to try. Snape's a bastard.) or he can try to fill his father's shoes and/or be bitter toward Harry for putting his father away in the big house.

I agree, it would be majorly odd to do nothing with Draco given his name, his parentage and his presence in the books up until now. Maybe he'll just be a run of the mill DE.

There will be no indulging in that guilty pleasure ship. Although, I've had this terrible Ginny/Oliver plot bunny that's just dying to be written, so I can't say much.

The last thing I read had the trio plus Tom all aboard for Goblet of Fire, nothing beyond that for any of them.

I believe by the time filming ended, rumor had it that he hit 6'1" *drools* and I think they're probably happy about it, although the rumor mill says otherwise. No more weird camera tricks to get him to look menacing and larger than life. I still laugh while watching CoS when he's talking to fake Crabbe and Goyle, the camera has to look down on him when he rises from the sofa and stands to give that "I'm a badass don't mess with me" appearance.

I agree, we need lots more pictures of Tom! I can't wait to see who they cast as Cho, Krum and Fleur. It should be interesting.

Oooh, I also indulge in a bit of G/O now and then (there is a sad dearth of G/O/D fic -- don't people believe in religion anymore?).

Cool re: trio and Tom for GoF, that's all I really wanted to know, anyway. In my head, there's a clear separation between GoF and OotP, so I don't think it would break my heart too much if they decided they had to recast after GoF (which is my fave book).

If I were the film makers, I wouldn't have wanted him to have grown quite so much for PoA ... but after that I can't see it being that big a deal. Though it'd be a little weird for Draco to be bigger/taller than his bodyguards.

There is a shot of Tom and the boy that plays Goyle during the Quidditch Cup Series they did, and the boy that plays Goyle is even taller than Tom. Because I've already established Draco in that series as extremely possessive? Especially in the latest installment, with the stirrups. After that one's finished, then we move to the muggle baby one, then the train and cowboy ones already written, then at least one from just before Ginny's last school year, and then I pick up Prof Malfoy again with the polyjuice.

You know, I think my life was simpler when I firmly believed myself incapable of writing smut.

Jealous!Draco is one of my favorite incarnations of him, and I simply adore how oblivious he is. And of course, I adore Professor Me for making it all possible. :D:D:D

Oh, I suppose you have to wrap up Ginny telling him why she was being all touchy feely with Owen (why was she KISSING him, though? Miss Weasley had best explain her actions), and there was something v. fishy about Jones.

Another fine installment of the Cabana Boy series. Oh, there were a couple of minor grammatical changes I wanted to suggest -- any chance I could be your beta on this one? Image

Honestly, I am completely ignorant of Hmong culture, so it's very possible that my first-blush assumption of Cho's nationality was wrong. :D I was only going off of the fact that "Chang" is an extremely popular Chinese surname, though "Cho" sounds more Korean. So I actually would have pegged her as being Korean, since I think "Chang" can also be a Korean surname. But -- if JKR told them Southeast Asia, then that's gotta be right, since she obviously knows her character best. <g>
