I love all the Sexy and I Know It parodies. First was the Nerdy and I Know It Starcraft video, now there's these Hunger Games "texts."

- Much better episode than last week's, I'm pleased to say.

- Brienne was perfect.

- So was Margaery. I mean, she was different from the books, but I really liked what they did with her (if they had to change her). Of course they had to age her up, as they have all the 'kids,' but she was portrayed as FAR more worldly than the Margaery of the books. I mean, Renly/Loras was, first of all, not explicit in the books so she wouldn't have really had the opportunity to let Renly know that she knew about it. Still, the whole, my brother can come in here and get you started, or I can turn around and you can pretend I'm him -- wow. Plus, show!Margaery seems way more cunning and ambitious than book!Margaery. I mean, it's not super out of character, because we later do learn that we might've been underestimating Margaery all along, but she IS younger in the books and she has her grandmother and others surrounding her helping her be strategic, whereas in this case it seems to all come from her. I cannot imagine this Margaery being engaged to Joffrey. It was already a bit ridiculous in the books because she was 16 and he was 11 or whatever, but now it's extra super ridiculous. :)) I can't imagine Joffrey abusing this Margaery the way he does in the books -- or her standing for it.

- They should've split this book into two seasons as well, frankly. It's suffering from having to tell too many stories in too short a time. I mean, major players are not getting screentime each episode -- nor should they, because the ones that ARE shown are getting little enough screetime as it is -- yet they're going to detail all the events of the book in 10 episodes? Everything is done on such a superficial level... I don't like it. It's like what happened with the Harry Potter movies. None of the color that made the books wonderful makes it to the screen. Particularly with a TV show, and on HBO, they ought to take their time with it to do it right. Same could be said of Harry Potter. They'll make an HBO series of that one day, mark my words. ;)

- Loved Tyrion tricking Pycelle, Littlefinger and Varys. I'm a fan of Varys, I've come to realize.

- We haven't seen much of Jaqen H'ghar, but the split second shot of him we saw last night had me interested. >.> I mean, he's an awesome character and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him. I'm interested in getting past a lot of this setup, period.

- Poooooooor Yoren. I like him a lot better on the show than in the books.

- Still totally underwhelmed with Yara/Asha. First, I always pictured her as being better looking (same with Theon). But ok, whatever, that's not the key thing about Asha. The key thing about Asha is that she's powerful and capable. But this actress doesn't excude power or competence. I guess we'll have to see her fighting or commanding the ships to really know, but right now I'm really bleh about her and in the books I was far more interested in her at this point in time.

- I don't like how they're building this romance between Sam and Gilly. It's certainly not there at the beginning, and even after everything that happens, that is still not really explicit or even implied. You might go there, because they get lumped together, but I've never felt that it was a romance.

- I'm getting a bit put out that the whole mystery about Jon's parentage is a no-show subplot. It's one of my favorite things about the books, and is like my #1 proof why you can't abbreviate something as dense as ASoIAF without losing some of its more interesting bits. For someone who's read the novels, watching the show is like reading a book by only reading Cliff's Notes. -.-

- I'm glad they're keeping Myrcella and Tommen decent. That exchange between Cersei and Tommen about whether Tommen would like it if Joffrey killed Sansa's brother was good.

- Plus, Sansa's reaction to the idea of Robb being killed was sooooo perfect. And of course it has nothing to do with any romantic entanglement, but Sansa/Robb has reared up to be something that rather tickles me, so I liked it on that level, too.

Tilth is one of my favorite Seattle restaurants. It's reliably awesome, every time. K and I went last night and had a great time. We shared everything.

First Course:

Baby Iceberg Lettuce radish, pecorino, mustard vinaigrette
[A little too mustardy. Needed less bite to it.]

Roasted Garlic Flan cauliflower, fresh breeze cream, green garlic
[I thought this was really delicious. I think it's the first time I've ever had a savory flan -- and I liked it much better than sweet flan.]

Second Course:

Carnaroli Risotto bloomsdale spinach, wild mushroom, pine nut
[This was delicious, but every one of its ingredients is something I love, so that's not surprising.]

Skagit River Ranch Pork choucroute, purple sweet potato, cabbage slaw
[A total hit with both me and K. It was incredibly good. The pork had been smoked then braised -- a combination I'll definitely have to try. The purple sweet potato was pureed. Everything went together really well.]

Third Course:

Carrot Cake golden raisin, walnut, cream cheese
[A little on the sweet side, but very good. I think I would have enjoyed it just as much without the cream cheese frosting.]

Theo Chocolate Pudding rhubarb, candied pistachio, shaved chocolate
[Wasn't crazy about this. The pudding had a weird flavor, like it wasn't pure chocolate... I have no idea what it was. The pistachio and rhubarb weren't anything to write home about either. So this was a disappointment.]

I'm starting to realize that I really don't need to wait for RW to enjoy these restaurants more often. What generally ends up being the case is that we basically get the dessert for free... yet the desserts are often the weakest part of the whole meal (with the exception of Mistral Kitchen and maybe the Tom Douglas restaurants). I'd almost always rather have another savory course.

I just found out that ordering an entire case of Head Country BBQ sauce was totally unnecessary. It turns out that the butcher I occasionally go to carries it. >< SIGH. I wonder if there's any chance at all they'd take it off my hands and I could get meat in exchange. Hmm.
