This lil' mofo not doing what he's told.
Sep. 26th, 2011 08:30 pmThis show is so insane. This last episode could have been a season finale on any other show. It's so intense! In the very best way.
Television Without Pity summary: Everything goes to hell. Just...everything.
LOL. That pretty much says it all.
- JESSE. Jesse. Jesse. I don't really know what I want to say except I feel like just saying his name should encompass it all. Thank you for not losing your soul. Thank you for retaining that innate goodness you can't help but have. Thank you for not letting Walt push you around anymore, but at the same time protecting his life. You are THE BEST.
- I don't care for Jesse's girlfriend. I'm not sure how much he really cares about her, or if it's Brock that he loves. Jesse has a weak spot for kids. And once again, I must reiterate how awesome it would be if the show ended with him and Holly going on the run/into witness protection together.
- True that I never like his girlfriends. The methhead, I can't even remember her name, goes without saying. I actually liked Jane okay until they really got involved... by the end, when she was a junkie and bossing Jesse around, I hated her.
- Are they ever going to have Jesse find out that Walt pretty much killed Jane by omitting to save her life?
- Freaking Ted Beneke, what a moron. After the first episode he was in, I was pretty much done with him, but the last few eps have really made me despise him. OMG that instead of paying off the IRS he fucking buys himself a Mercedes. Then even after Skyler tells him the money's from her, he refuses to pay. I knew they had to get rid of him, but I thought they were going to use the opportunity to have Skyler cross a line and get her to tell Saul to get rid of Ted. Instead, Ted manages to kill himself (I thought he was only injured/passed out, until Saul was chewing out his henchmen in the office) in the most moronic way possible. Not that I will miss him at all.
- That last scene was sooooooooooooooooooo good, with Walter laughing like a madman, then the camera zooming out, showing him in the crawl space like a grave. So creepy! And such good music selection to accompany it. It so felt like everything had fallen apart. Now they don't have the money to run or go into hiding, and Walt has no way to make more money after getting fired. And now Gus knows that Walt's betrayed him by telling the DEA what he plans for Hank, Jesse's done with Walt, and Walt's entire family is now in danger.
- I think it's obvious that what needs to go down is Jesse ends up saving the whole White family after he finds out what's going on, don't you think? And then Jesse or Walt will kill Gus, in front of Hector, and maybe then, as Gus lays dying, then Hector will finally look at him.
- Gus has manipulated Jesse into being on his side with tactics that, on the outside, look good. Meaning, he did it the right way, by earning Jesse's trust, whereas Walt was frankly abusive. Both Gus and Walt have used Jesse. But I would argue that only Walt actually cares at all for Jesse. When he's in his Heisenberg persona, he's been harsh and dictatorial. But at every turn when Jesse's life was in danger, even when it didn't benefit Walt to do so, he saved Jesse's life. It mattered to him that Jesse be alive. That's what Jesse's doing for him now. Whereas Gus... sure, on the outset, he seems to give Jesse respect, to value him. But Jesse is only a means to an end. Right now, Walt is a problem, a big one -- so Jesse is the lesser of two evils, since he can also cook meth with 96.2% purity. But Jesse is no chemist. And if the day comes when someone can cook as well as he can or better, he's gone. Gus feels zero loyalty/sentimentality toward him. If it's Gus or Jesse, Gus will choose himself. Whereas I don't think Walt would ever make that choice, even as Heisenberg. But as we've seen, that mask is slipping, and now that everything is on the line and all that he cares about in the world is about to slip away, we may finally get to see who the true Walter White is.
