It was possibly the best episode of Glee ever, and that is saying something. SUE WASN'T EVEN IN IT, and usually she's what makes it great.

I thought it was going to be Lady Gaga that made it great; the costumes and "Bad Romance" were awesome, but that was actually such a small part of the episode. I thought it was going to be all fun and theatrics, what with Gaga and the title of the ep, but I could not have been more wrong. So many real issues surfaced and dealt with in such a satisfying way!!

To wit:

- Being a Puck/Quinn shipper (I guess they're known as "Quick" but I haven't decided yet whether that's too stupid to use), I was beside myself with the unexpected sweetness of PUCK SINGING TO QUINN about the name he wants to give the baby. OMG, so much joyful squeeing in my heart about that. I actually SHED TEARS I was so touched. I know, I am a ridiculous, incurable romantic.

- Kurt's dad could not be more the bomb. That entire speech was so well delivered -- I teared up here too. (I really did not expect to be crying during the Lady Gaga episode.) Finn deserved being ripped a new one, but I also understood why he was freaking out. He IS a stupid teenage boy, after all. Still, I thought he redeemed himself admirably. Seriously, that first shot of him in the red costume, OMG. This is why I adore this show -- I laugh hysterically from the funniness and cry from heartrending moments all in the same 42 minutes.

- Tina's "identity crisis." TINA GOT HER OWN LITTLE SUBPLOT. How awesome is that? The resolution was so ridiculous and funny. Figgins is scared of vampires, lolol.

- Liked the realistic approach they took to Rachel and Shelby's relationship, even if it was kind of bittersweet. Despite Idina Menzel, this was actually the least interesting plotline to me. When she and Lea sing together, you can really distinguish why Idina has been so successful on Broadway (and maybe because of that, her character's professional 'failures' don't really ring true when she's delivering those lines, lol) ... her voice is powerful and interesting, whereas Lea's is just a bit too sweet. How awesome would it have been for Idina and Kristin to have been in the same episode and sung together? Mustn't dream pipe dreams to have them crushed...

- On a totally superficial note, I thought Quinn's costume was the best in that it was a great costume *and* she looked great in it (plus she kept having to hold that ... thing ... whatever it was, so funny). Rachel's takes second place just because it was so funny.

- Oh oh, and the subtle Twilight bashing. Kudos to that too. Gosh, this episode was able to pack in so much! Except not Sue. That would have tipped it over on the awesome scale and the world would have imploded.

The only thing I regret is not having Tivo so I can't watch it again immediately.

Also, did you know that Heather Morris, aka Brittany, is a professional dancer, and went on tour with Beyonce as one of her two backup dancers? She was originally hired for Glee to teach the Single Ladies dance to the actors (for the episode Preggers). They just so happened to need a 3rd cheerleader, and that's how she got the role even though she'd never acted professionally before. It does explain why she's in like every dance number (same with Harry Shum Jr., aka Mike Chang, who was in those iPod commercials with the dancing silhouettes).
