On the TV front:

- Started this show called Pushing Daisies. I'm not sure how old it is, but it's no longer airing and I think it was only on the air for 2 seasons. It's cute, but I find the lead heroine fairly annoying. It's narrated by Jim Dale! I love Kristin Chenoweth (her character name is Olive Snook -- how great is that), though of course I always wish she were singing.

- BSG season 3 FINALLY finished downloading.

* OMG at out-of-shape!Lee. I just want to laugh when I look at him. Not because the makeup, etc., isn't convincing (they did a good job), but just because he looks so ... puffy.

* Ugh that he and Dee (Lee and Dee, LOL) are also married now. WTF, a year passes and everyone gets married: Lee, Kara, Chief, maybe other people we don't know...?

* I should like Cally in theory, but dislike her because the actress bugs me.

* Ugh, I am dreading Sharon (Athena, though she has STILL not been assigned this callsign, even though she was recently accepted back on the fleet as a lieutenant) finding out about what Roslin and Adama did with her baby, after she and Adama seem to have come to a new understanding.

* Um, is this a continuity error or a ruse that we're about to find out? Kara can't have a half human, half Cylon baby w/ that Cylon guy, because there was that one ep when the Cylons (in a movie theater?) were talking about the amazing development of the first (I think?) hybrid kid -- and that was Helo/Sharon's baby. And that baby is like, just over a year old. Whereas the little girl -- Casey/Kacee/Kasey -- who is supposedly Kara's daughter is like 2-3 years old! Surely the other Cylons would know about her existence, and not talk about Helo/Sharon's baby as something unique and amazing? And is it possible for Casey to be that old, anyway? Sharon got pregnant around the same time as when Kara showed up on Caprica again, which means that Hera should be just as old if not older than Casey. And yet the two children playing those kids do not look the same age; Casey looks/acts older. So is Kara being tricked, and Casey isn't her daughter, or is this just iffy casting, and we're supposed to assume that the kid is the right age? Or is there some magical Cylon way to accelerate gestation, so that Casey was born before Hera?

- Thought Kara's sudden about-face about Casey was kind of unbelievable. She goes from killing the dude (I don't remember/know his name or his number) constantly to gripping his hand at Casey's bedside, and asking no questions about her existence, or feeling violated, etc.?? WTF?? Sure, her warming to the kid isn't a bad thing (it's not the kid's fault), but to warm to the Cylon guy because of the kid is kind of stupid.

- The Chief, etc., need to step off on Gaeta. Wasn't he working for Baltar before the Cylons arrived (again)? Like his quitting there on the spot wouldn't have put his life in danger. They should just be grateful that they have someone on the inside! Ingrates. (Though... considering how much Gaeta wanted the position he eventually got on Galactica, I'm not really sure how/why he would have wanted to leave that post to work for Baltar anyway.)

- Ugh, Kat is the CAG? She so needs to go. away.

- Hopefully Ellen will be going away soon (since she got found out about passing info to Dean Stockwell). Tigh is such a hardass about the lengths they have to go. But of course, he has a weakness for her and is prone to hypocrisy, so I might not get my wish.

- Finally, some more interesting stuff for Lucy Lawless. For so long she's just been this menacing figure amongst the other Cylons, it was kind of a waste of her special guest star status.

- Funniest line in BSG so far: "If I'm not back in 18 hours, then find Earth." - Adama to Apollo

LOL, it's that easy. Oh okay, if you're not back I'll do that. Otherwise, no.

On the food front:

- Julie and I went to this AWESOME authentic Mexican place in Ballard this weekend, Señor Moose Café.

I'd heard good things about it, but I didn't think I would come out of there raving. We were doing one of those girls' night out things, so I got a piña colada even though I don't usually drink (I don't think she understood why until I was half done w/ the small drink and I was bright red and acting kind of loopy). We also ordered guacamole ("market price") and their salsa sampler, which turned out to be a huge mistake, because it meant that we kept eating chips and guac until we were totally full, before our entrees even came. The salsa sampler was OK, but nothing spectacular. The guacamole was very, very good, but not better than the homemade guacamole I make from the Best Guacamole Recipe Ever [tm]. For two people, it's too much food as an appetizer; it'd be good for four.

They have a number of vegetarian choices; she got the entomatadas. I tried it and it was good, but did not at all compare to what I got, camarones enchipotlados. It was out of this WORLD. The sauce, omg the sauce. On the menu it doesn't sound like much: shrimp sautéed, finished with cream and smoky chipotle sauce. Served with black beans and rice. I asked the waitress for recommendations; she gave about five of them, including this one. She said that sometimes she just has the kitchen give her a giant bowl of rice with this sauce. Man, I wish I had the recipe for it; I'd make it all the time. Still, they also cooked the shrimp perfectly -- they were firm and succulent, with just the right amount of crunch/bounce/snap that really good shrimp should have. The portion is just about right, not too big, not too small. It came with 10-12 shrimp and a handful of rice and beans. The sauce is so rich that every bite is satisfying/filling.

I will definitely be back there, even if I just go alone and sit at the counter. The dish was that good. Plus I probably wouldn't need to wait as long. It was a Saturday when we went, we got there around 5:45p. The restaurant area was already filled up (it's a tiny place, 10 tables max), but the counter was empty and we didn't have to wait that long for a table to open up. By the time we ordered though, the counterspace was completely taken up and people were starting to have to wait. By the time we left the place was totally packed. Oh Señor Moose, you made me such a happy woman.

- I don't think my boeuf bourguignon came out the way Julia Child intended. It's good, but it's not fabulous, and I think it's supposed to be fabulous. Her recipe seems to indicate that there should be way more sauce than I had. Every step of the way it seemed like the heat I was using was too high, even though I was just following instructions. I think I need to use less heat next time. And I confess that due to the Señor Moose excursion, I may have taken the boeuf bourguignon out of the oven 30-60 minutes too late. Also, I have to say that some of the instructions are not as clear as they could be.

- The snail butter came out great. It's really just an herb butter. It smells terrific, and the specks of parsley, garlic, and shallot dotting the butter just looks sooo good. I haven't downloaded the pictures I took yet, but I'm definitely making a post to the food porn community about it.

- Currently I'm soaking beef marrow bones. You have to soak them in salted water (with several changes) for 24 hours in order to get all the blood out. I plan to roast them. This is my second attempt at this; the first time I didn't like it much, but I don't think I followed the soaking instructions so I'm giving it another shot. It always sounds so good when I read about it in Jennifer McLagan's book Bones.

On the work front:

- I celebrated my 10-year anniversary here on Friday. I cannot believe it's been 10 years. My manager's manager joked that I'd been here for 40% of my life, but actually I thought about it, and it really IS 33% of my life, so it wasn't that much of a joke. It's kind of wild to think about, and strangely depressing (even though I'm glad I've had a very good job for so long). I got my 10-year crystal sculpture thing, there were drinks and chocolate cake, and it helped keep my mind off of things going on in my life that could totally cripple me if I let it. So that's good. :-)

On the writing front:

- I have a basic outline worked out for my [community profile] dgficexchange story, which is a Good Thing. Jade is always a great sounding board for this kind of stuff. Sometimes I use her ideas and often I don't, but everything she brings up is worth thinking about, and it helps me hone exactly what I DO want to do, which is usually the hardest part.
