For once, am so v. glad to be up at 4:30am, to see the amazing news that U.S. forces have captured Saddam Hussein in his hometown. Wow. I really never anticipated that this day would come, much as I expect Osama bin Laden will never be found. However, this gives me a sliver of hope. Wow again.
- Man, I bet Bush's political opponents are all cursing right now. No way an incumbent president who had a 55% approval rating PRIOR to the capture of Hussein will be voted out of office.
- Is it wrong that seeing how old he is makes me feel the teeniest, tiniest bit sorry for him?
- If this were a movie, he'd be some random guy that the U.S. gov't created this whole time to have an "enemy" to fight. A la Wag the Dog.
- God, what a life. Moving every 4-5 hours for TWO MONTHS. He was probably just fucking tired. Though I'm both surprised and unsurprised that he didn't off himself before his capture.
- I do not have a position re: Bush. If I lean on the side of wanting him out of office, it's solely so that people can STOP BITCHING ABOUT HIM ALREADY. I pretty much think presidents are figureheads, anyway. They're there for FOUR YEARS. WTF do they know??? It's the people who are there for life who really run things. I've worked on the Hill. I know what goes on. That is: A WHOLE LOT OF NOTHING.
- Already I am sick of seeing Saddam getting his throat checked.
- Nice speech, Mr. Blair. Yes, you're vindicated too, for your official support of what the U.S. was doing in the Middle East. LOLOLLLLLLLL I love that they show him walking out of the room that no one but him is in.
- Oh, apparently they're checking his mouth for cyanide pills. D00ds, he's not going to kill himself. He's always been All About Saddam. He's far too cowardly. He wants to LIVE, man.
- I wonder what the South Park guys are going to do with this.

Date: 2003-12-14 05:10 am (UTC)Right, the intelligence had been going on for 2 months, they said, so I assume they at least knew that they were close/that a team had been organized to extract him.
Osama is still out there
Er, yes, that's what I said. <g> But the fact that Hussein was actually captured gives me hope for bin Laden.
he got his ass whupped by some guy from Arkansas
The Gulf War accomplished nothing. There was nothing by the end of it to point to as some kind of accomplishment. It just ended. W can say, during my term in office, WE CAPTURED SADDAM HUSSEIN. So, imho, world of difference between Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. in those scenarios. Still, I wouldn't put money on it or anything. Also, at the moment, I don't think there's a single Democratic candidate that is as charismatic as Clinton was in the same position.
BTW did you catch the part of my last post about all you can eat crab? :D
