I neglected to mention yesterday that the book covers I bought (made of polyester film) were the right kind. Yay! The first book I tried to wrap turned out badly, but now I've gotten pretty good at it. The only thing I can really use to make things faster/neater is one of those paper guillotine slicer things. I wonder how much those go for.

Dinner last night at Union was good, but not outstanding. I started with beef carpaccio and had braised pork cheeks as my entree. My cousin started with tagliarini with duck sugo and hangar steak as her entree. We shared our desserts, a chocolate terrine with figs, and frozen pistachio mousse. The chocolate terrine was excellent, and everything else was very, very good. Since Union changes their menu daily, we may go back again before the promotion is over. The other places we had talked about hitting were La Rustica (a West Seattle favorite of ours), Anchovies & Olives (same chef as Union, but seafood themed), and Crush (went with [profile] corianderstem during the last promotion). My mom/aunt are going to be here around the time of my birthday, so we'll probably go to La Rustica then, as they love it as well, and I think my cousin's going to Crush with some of her friends, which is just as well. As much as I love doing stuff like this, doing it a lot is not friendly toward my wallet!

I've got beef stew simmering in my Crock Pot at home. Mmm. Now that I know food a little better, I've realized that the recipe I've been using is just a bastardized version of Julia Child's Boeuf Bourguignon, made simpler for a slow cooker. Does explain why it's so yummy!

I saw Zombieland this last weekend (not my idea). I have to admit, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but then I didn't have high hopes going in. The thing is, there are two zombie movies: the scary zombie movie and the funny zombie movie. Both movies have been done. Over and over and over. I don't know why it's such a draw, why people continue to love zombie movies so much that they keep being made, even though they are basically the same two movies made over and over again. Best scary zombie movie: 28 Days Later. Best funny zombie movie: Shaun of the Dead. Unless a zombie movie's going to be better or totally different from those two, I have no interest.

I've ordered a couple of organic gardening books online. :D I went to HPB intending to get some there, but with [profile] jade_okelani's help I determined that I could buy both books I wanted for less than the price of one of them from HPB. I'm sooooo excited to start planting ... something!
