In Harry's 7th year, which boy do you think is going to be Head Boy? For that matter, which girl will nab the honor of Head Girl? What are their qualifications? Has JKR foreshadowed their appointment as Head Boy and Girl? If different, who do you *want* to end up Head Boy and Girl?

Personally, I want to answer the subject line's question. <eg> Fanfic Draco would no doubt know all the moves and know exactly how to please his partner, but Harry -- oh, Harry would be so eager to please; he'd look at you with those big green eyes of his and ...

Oh, right. Head Boy/Head Girl. I wonder if everyone's shied away from this topic because come book 7, we may be proved wrong. Well, it's not the first time I've stuck my neck out, so I figure I can do it again. <g>

I don't think it's a big stretch to proclaim Hermione as Head Girl of her class. JKR seems to have modeled her exactly for this purpose -- unless she *means* to pull the rug from under us, but I can't think why she would want to do this. But really, I'm as certain about this as I am about the fact that it's eventually going to be Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny in canon. And the fact that I am so confident in Hermione as Head Girl affects who I see being Head Boy. It goes like this ...

Head Boy gets tricky. I know that Ron's had high-achieving siblings and this would be a great way to carry on the family tradition. However, I don't think JKR has set him up for this kind of responsibility/leadership. Our dear Ron is a sidekick, and he shines in that role. I also don't think it will be Harry, because I don't think he has the right kind of overt academic/leadership skills to be Head Boy. Plus, Harry's Harry. A regular kind of guy. A boy we could all relate to because he isn't perfect. No, Head Boy Harry is not in the cards, I think. As for the rest of the Gryffindor boys, none of them have stood out to be Head Boy material -- not to mention, if Hermione *is* Head Girl, it will seem a little too "pat" for the Head Boy to also be from Gryffindor (another strike against Ron and Harry, who have the additional strike of being her friends -- that would be simply *too* perfect).

I also can't think of any other boys from Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw who would be an obvious Head Boy. So, I personally think that the Head Boy for Harry's year is going to either be a character who hasn't been introduced yet (or who has been mentioned very briefly), or it's going to be Draco Malfoy.

Whether this is truly what I think or whether it's something I *want* to think, I don't rightly know. I definitely would like to see Draco taking on a bigger role -- or at least, a role that would give him significance in their 7th year, enough to cause more trouble for the Trio, because, as I've said before, if he doesn't, he'll soon lose his effectiveness as a foil for Harry. Being Head Boy is about the only way I can see him maintain that -- not because I particularly am dying to see him as Head Boy.

As for his qualifications, I'm not sure that he's that much stronger than anyone else I've considered, except that he does have a forceful personality and he has leadership skills (in the form of being bossy, but still). Don't know what kind of student he is, but he's clearly more intelligent than Crabbe and Goyle ... though that might not be saying much. The HP Lexicon says that he gets "good marks" -- not sure where they get that from, as I don't remember it being explicitly mentioned in the books, but it's possible. Draco also makes sense in a conflict type way -- if Hermione is Head Girl, there's all the more reason/opportunity for him to make trouble for them. As for his not being nice enough, or being too evil and snotty and *Slytherin* to be Head Boy, let's not forget Tom Riddle ... And if Draco really is Harry's peer arch-nemesis, what better comparison could there be, to make Draco like Riddle? Or think of the contrast -- if Draco were to go gray, it'd be more moving if *this* Slytherin Head Boy chose a different path than his predecessor did ...

But then again, this is Harry's series, not Draco's. <g> So maybe not.

In any case, one thing is for sure: The prospects for Head Boy will be narrowed down once Harry's year becomes eligible for the nomination of prefects (iirc, that's 5th year, right?), because it is almost certain that the Head Boy will have been a prefect. So if Harry, or Ron, or Draco are prefects, they'll all be in contention for the Head Boy honor, imho.
