I find that today's entry can be sorted into categories for easier navigating:
Fanfic: Thanks to
nmalfoy for looking for Pirates of the Caribbean slash recs, because I might never have found this story: Hurricane Jack by shrift. Like most everyone, I adored PotC. I adored Jack, I adored Will, and by extension, I liked Elizabeth okay. BUT I had no interest in Will/Elizabeth (it was fine as portrayed in the movie, but wasn't extremely compelling or anything). I liked the idea of Jack/Will and the idea of a threesome, but didn't think that anyone could really do these characters justice, and didn't really feel like trolling for half-baked fic (I wasn't left feeling needy by the movie, so I wasn't really desperate for fanfic to "fix" or "explore" anything). Well, I'm big enough to admit when I'm wrong, and I was wrong (yay!). That fic rocked. Now I just need to find a really good threesome story. Does anyone know of one? Or more good Jack/Will? I mean, specifically? Don't link me to archives; I'm not into it enough to go on a great hunt, but if you've read a really, really good PotC story (hell, regardless of pairing(s)) link me please!
Even more recs (I figure it is my civic duty):
jade_okelani is a writing machine. I adore her latest, Broken Perception.
rainpuddle13 shared more lovely drabble here, and
sydney_lynne rec'ed a story by Nokomis that I enjoyed muchly, called Willing. Okay, I think I've exhausted what I can rec for now.
Music: I've been wanting to talk about this for awhile ... I'm curious, do you have an anthem for your life? Or maybe a song that you think expresses you/your approach to life/how you think people should view life, really well? I ask because I always have one of those. They change depending on what I'm going through currently, or what my life philosophy is at the moment, but there's always that one song that I feel expresses everything about me (at that time). Right now it's "Moving On" by Good Charlotte (<3333 GC in general). I've linked to the lyrics, but you really have to listen to the song for full impact (this is true of all songs, of course). Do you have an anthem? What is it? (In the past my "anthems" have included: "America" by Bree Sharp; "Fat Lip" by Sum 41; "Let Her Feel the Rain," by Tara MacLean; "8 Mile" by Eminem; "Anything But Ordinary" by Avril Lavigne; "Papercut" by Linkin Park; "Anthem" by blink-182 ... okay, I'll stop there <g>)
Food: Friday night I went to dinner w/ Julie at El Greco (yes, again! It's fast becoming my favorite restaurant). We split a bread salad and I had the Ahi tuna, seared raw. So. delicious. Gah, now I'm really in the mood for sushi. Perhaps will go for lunch. In other culinary news, the pesto/goat cheese spread was a disaster. I'm a total lameass and heated the two together, which of course caused the olive oil to separate from everything else, so then it wasn't a spread but a kind of thick paste. So my question is, how does one keep that from happening? Is there any way to heat up pesto that won't cause the olive oil to separate from the rest of it?
