I made dollar-size hotcakes yesterday and I am pretty excited about them. The problem I have with pancakes is usually that they're too big, and by the time I finish eating all or even half the portion, I feel sick. But I can eat a stack of these little pancakes! Plus they're so cute! Each one is a perfect mouthful. I did have to buy maple syrup for the first time in a long time though, and -- wow. I guess my mom always got the fake stuff when I was growing up, because I'm SURE we didn't pay that much for maple syrup (though I know prices have gone way up since then). I also made the most delicious -- even if I do say so myself -- broccoli Alfredo sauce. Last time I tried making an Alfredo, it was a clumpy, separated mess of a disaster. This time, I just followed some simple rules rather than following an exact recipe, and it was wonderful.

It's been super cold here. After the "indoor BBQ" on Sat, it snowed again, pretty heavily. It looks like December around these parts. Sigh. I got my electricity bill though, and it's not as terrible as I was fearing. Me being able to be in my kitchen without seeing my own breath = win.

So I was watching another episode of Lie to Me (guest starring David Anders!!) on Hulu when a preview for Castle came up. Color me clueless, but I had no idea that Nathan Fillion had gotten himself another show. You go, Nathan! The premise looks... ehhh. It could be really good or it could be lame and gimmicky. For his sake I hope it's the former. The pilot ep of Lie to Me is expiring soon, if it hasn't already, in case anyone's been meaning to check it out.

So the simple slow-cooker ribs was a rousing success. I've made pulled pork in a slow cooker before, from a roast, and that was good. But this was even easier. I used country-style bone-in pork ribs, and a lone beef back rib (to see if I liked one more than another). The beef back rib totally won. It was all very good, but the beef rib just was that much better. I'll definitely be making this again, with all beef ribs. Mmmm. It's odd too, because in restaurants I typically prefer baby back pork ribs over beef ribs. I guess it comes down to the "melting off the bone"-ness -- when it's like that, the beef is better; when the meat is still firm I like the pork.

You have to stop posting about food because I keep on getting hungry after reading your posts even if I've just eaten dinner.

Pancakes sound so delicious right now.

'Castle' is totally bad TV, but it's like, bad TV that's kind of fun to watch. At least, *I* think so - a bunch of people have their panties in a wad about it being a rip off of different shows in various ways - when really, the show *I* think it's ripping off the most is Moonlighting, which hasn't even been mentioned. :))

Nathan totally deserves better, but I'll watch him in this until better comes along.

Hooray for the small dollar-sized pancakes! I like them that way too, so whenever I make them at home, I make them small. I like picking them up and dipping them in the maple syrup. X-)

Is 'Lie To Me' good? I haven't seen any of it because I feel like I already have waaay too many shows that I'm addicted to watching. But seeing that Tim Roth is in it, has me wondering. I don't know...

Oh yeah! I did see a quick blurb the other day about Nathan's new show. I don't know much about it though. I've also seen blurbs on another show that seems interesting... 'Kings'. But again... I already watch sooo many shows.... lol.

Lie to Me IS good, but I'm not sure how long they can actually run with the premise without it getting really old. I've finished 5 episodes and it's been entertaining so far, but sometimes the 'readings' of expressions seem a little far fetched. Are you a fan of Tim Roth? If so then I'd say check it out. :D

Good to know on all counts. And yes, I do have a fondness for Tim Roth. And it's all because of Quentin Tarantino too.

Okay, so I'm really bad at these introduction things, but I thought I'd friend you. We've got several mutual friends and I think we've had some conversations (if you can call it that?) on the DGArchive Yahoo group. But mainly, looking at your posts, you seem to live in the area where I am about to move to! This Saturday I'm moving to a 'burb north of Seattle.

And good to know that Castle is up on Hulu! I couldn't catch it when it aired but I was excited to see Nathan Fillion in a new show. And yes, real maple syrup is expensive. : ( I have to buy the real stuff since the fake stuff is corn syrup and I'm allergic to corn.

I've friended you as well. :-) Always nice to meet another Seattlite (welcome to the city btw!), so I have someone else to commiserate over the weather with and be excited about cool new finds with! Is there a particular reason you're moving up here? Where are you from originally?

Unfortunately Castle itself is not up on Hulu. :( I was watching Lie to Me on Hulu and an ad came up for Castle, but the show isn't actually on Hulu. I wish it were.

Luckily for me pancakes/waffles are rare at my place so I don't have to buy maple syrup often. Wow, being allergic to corn must be tough considering it's so prevalent, especially in the form of high fructose corn syrup!
