I'm not watching them, but I'm getting results from the LA Times scorecard. I assumed, being that they're a west coast paper and because it's been slowly updating throughout the evening, that they were posting results as they were televised. Apparently that is not the case, they have all the results, so don't click if you don't want to be spoiled!
Really just the one comment right now.
OMG THAT KATE GOT BOTH LEADING AND SUPPORTING ACTRESS!! Yay!!
When she won for The Reader I was like, oh, Anne Hathaway must've won for Rachel Getting Married. But I am SO GLAD she didn't. Because I'm sorry, even though I like Anne Hathaway OK, it would be a TOTAL CRIME for her to win any kind of best actress award over Kate Winslet.
Okay, and now that it's officially over for both coasts, some other thoughts:
No comment on the fashion or speeches or anything since I didn't actually watch the show and only saw the above scorecard.
- Yay again on Kate. She gets a double yay for her double win. Woot! I really hope this bodes well for the Oscars, because she SO DESERVES ONE. Although honestly? She should have won one for "Jude." I can't remember if she was even nominated for that, but she should have been if she wasn't and she should have won. And also I'd really be disappointed to see her lose to someone like Anne Hathaway, who I hear was great in RGM, but honestly, should not be getting a best actress Oscar before Kate. Period.
- Poor Leo, always a bridesmaid.
- I'm meh on the Mickey Rourke win. I know, it's a great comeback and blah blah blah, but hey, how about never leaving in the first place? Brad Pitt's a great actor but apparently too pretty to ever actually win anything.
- Colin Farrell was in a new movie? And it was a comedy? That I've never even heard of? And he was so good in it that he won and award for it? Crazy.
- Sad Meryl Streep didn't win for Mamma Mia! even though I was meh about that movie. But I just love her.
- Yay for the 30 Rock wins. I've only seen the first season (and I don't even think all of it), but Tina Fey obviously rocks and I've always liked Alec Baldwin. He's so great on that show.
- Heath totally deserved to win his category, but one of these days Robert Downey Jr. MUST be rewarded for his acting genius. I'm like, Best Actor for Ironman! DO IT.
- I guess there was some timing issue and that's why Gran Torino wasn't nominated for Best Picture in a Drama? Because I can't imagine why else it would be snubbed. And yet the SONG from Gran Torino was nominated ... so what gives? Because I would be really sad if it did not get an Oscar nom this year, when it is like my favorite Clint Eastwood movie. (I really like the song, too. So pretty. I have not yet found it to download, however.) In fact, as I noted in another post, I liked it more than Slumdog Millionaire, and would rather see it get Best Picture. But after Million Dollar Baby and Unforgiven and what not, they may all think Clint's gotten his due.
- I don't care who else he is up against, Hugh Laurie should always win. I've never liked Gabriel Byrne, and he wasn't even THERE.
- Oh God, Anna Paquin won for True Blood. I mean, I'm probably biased because I can't stand her character, but ehhh I guess I don't know much about the others so don't really care one way or another.
- Jesus, I guess I have to try watching "John Adams" at some point.
