from fic to football
Oct. 21st, 2004 03:26 pmTHANK YOU!!! to those of you who have been reading Portkey Party and left notes that you've been reading. <333 I really appreciate it. You all saw the questionnaire Ginny filled out, right? Only
sydney_lynne mentioned it, so I wanted to be sure. Because, you know, it's all part of the story. :D
Any U2 fans?
corianderstem just ran into Bono at her work place. She has a picture with him and everything. Why does stuff like that never happen to me, I'd like to know? And I notice she didn't breathe a word of it to me when we were seeing Nora Roberts. What's up with that? <g> She so wanted to keep Bono to herself. Bi-ach!
One of the things I love more than anything are soundtrack scores. I've made a mix for myself of some of my favorite tracks from movie scores, and I looooooove it. Any other fans out there? If there was a contest for identifying scores with the movies they belong with, I'd so win! :))
So I've been reading Friday Night Lights, and as great as the movie was, the book inevitably has lots more detail and nuance. The issue of racism was hardly touched upon at all in the movie, whereas it comprises a significant part of the book -- which is partially why it was so controversial at the time of publication. I'm finding that my favorite 'character' in the movie is also my favorite in the book, which is cool. (It's Ivory Christian.) All this reading about football has really made me want to watch some games, but UCLA isn't ranked so far this year so their games aren't being aired, and anyway I don't have cable at the moment. (And it's EXTREMELY GALLING that USC is ranked #1 in the AP/ESPN/BCS polls. *smites*) Here is where I will shamefully admit that I have some old games on tape and may actually have to pop one in. Since I'm talking about this ... does anyone happen to have (or know where I can get) a copy of the 1995-1998 UCLA-USC games (1995 in particular)? It's a longshot, but I had to try -- I've been looking for years.
Every time I read about this person or that being mystified/outraged by how the BCS system does not always reflect the AP or coaches' polls, I'm always like, STFU. I mean, isn't that the point? The BCS system is intended to objectify these highly subjective polls by using six computer rankings (which take into account things like strength of schedule, win/loss record, score margins, etc.) in addition to the two polls -- so of course it won't always come out as expected. It shouldn't. If it did, that would render the BCS meaningless. Honestly.
