Narnia, WoW stuff, Liss's voice, D/G art!
Dec. 13th, 2005 11:35 pmOkay, so Jade and Robbie might have seen Narnia tonight, and I have to get my thoughts in before they tell me what they thought of it and influence my review! I reaallllly liked it. Like
corianderstem, I might even go so far as to say I loved it. I had such a high hopes, too, because the trailers were quite awesome -- so glad it lived up to them. :D The only book I've ever read in the series prior to seeing the movie was "The Lion, etc." but that was ages ago, so I reread it before seeing the movie. That could have been a big mistake, because then the real thing would be fresh in my mind and the adaptation might suffer in comparison. Happily not so. The movie is incredibly true to the book -- not in a drab "Sorcerer's Stone" way, but in a BJD way, where changes were made here and there to make the plot go faster or whatever, but it still feels very authentic. The other thing I was concerned about was the fact that the movie was 2 1/2 hours long, considering the book is like 150 pages, if that. :)) But it didn't feel long, and there isn't any part that I would cut.
Of the two reviews I've read of the film, both waxed poetic about the girl who played Lucy. She was fine, as were all the kids. But the one who actually impressed me the most was Peter (William Moseley). I think it's really hard to find, in this day and age, a boy who possesses that old-school kind of charm, that "I'm a deep-down, really good guy" vibe without being showy or boring. I mean, Peter is basically perfect. The perfect brother, the perfect hero. But instead of making us skeptical about it or bored by it, C.S. Lewis successfully made him likable in the book, and Moseley makes him likable in the movie.
I also liked that the actors all kind of looked like they could actually be related to each other. The only issue I have -- a superficial issue -- is that Lucy is supposed to be blonde. :p
Liam Neeson as Aslan was a wonderful choice. He's so Mr. Mentor Guy.
Despite the fact that the theater was full of kids, there was very little disturbance, which I'm sure helped me enjoy the movie more. <g> Yay for those kids!
Did you know the Internet is for porn? (My new favorite WoW video. I've watched it like six times now.)
Speaking of WoW ... I was very pleased after today's maintenance. Despite Alliance's cheaty and unfair advantage, I was able to not only gain my First Sergeant rank back, but am surprisingly close to being an officer! (I didn't think I'd played that much.)

I am sooooo excited by the idea of actually getting to go through those gates that have shut me out, mocking me, until now. Well, until next week, assuming that last centimeter or so is not an impossible hurdle. Seriously, I didn't think I had played that much, and yet not only did I get to the next rank, if I'd played just a little more, I might have been able to jump two ranks. Crazy. In fact, this is the closest I have ever been to Stone Guard (my brother is already there, and he made sure I knew it, too :-l). Squeee!
I played a bit tonight, and it was dismal. The worst PvP night ever, I think. I played seven games of AB and LOST ALL 7. They finally broke me and I had to leave. I don't know why we were so incredibly bad tonight. I was even grouped with Taurhorde the whole time. O.o AND a general, Jedipolar (whom my brother doesn't like, and after he told the story, I might have to agree). AND another warlock Champion, Throx. Throx was quite amusing, and he's apparently amazingly good. Taur jokingly said that Throx could take on two warriors by himself, and I'm not quite sure now whether it actually was a joke. Kevin said that he once saw Throx beat a warrior, fully naked. :O That would have been something to see.
I'm such a procrastinator. My flight to LA is in two weeks, and I still haven't taken Talis to the vet to get the required health certificate. It's like I'm not happy unless I give myself something to stress about last minute.
Have you guys ever heard
lissannej talk? She has the cutest accent ever! Not that I got to hear it in person, since I missed her call (WAH!), but it's on my answsering machine forEVER. Heehee. I'm sure she would say that she doesn't have an accent, that we're the ones with accents, but don't listen. Those Australians have such crazy ideas sometimes...
Also, check out this D/G drawing that I commissioned from
tiny_q. Squee! It looks freakishly like my own couch, which is weird because Tiny's never seen it. D&G are getting naughty on my couch! Yay! I'm so glad to have real, physical D/G artwork to hang up on my walls. :D
