The other day, I had the BEST surprise in my mailbox -- the latest Georgia Nicolson novel ("And Then He Ate My Boy Entrancers")!!! If you haven't read these, they are a treat. They're hilarious, and oddly endearing. They're about a teenage girl, but I wouldn't say that these are appropriate for the younger set. In fact, I would say they definitely aren't appropriate for anyone impressionable. But I'm old and cynical, so it's okay for me to read them. I haven't finished the latest, but all I have to say is that if Georgia doesn't see the light soon about Dave the Laugh and he gets away, I'll bawl. Really. I mean, most of us have probably had a Dave the Laugh in our lives -- a cute, sweet, funny guy who treats you right and lurves you ... but for whatever reason, probably immaturity, you were too busy crushing on other guys to really notice or appreciate it. And then he's gone, taken by someone less silly than you. Louise Rennison MUST NOT let that happen to Georgia!! She must see the light about Dave! And if she doesn't in canon, then by God I will fix it in fanfic. It's bad enough to accept it happening in RL, but to have it happen in my mind candy fiction also? It's not to be borne.
So ... after much hemming and hawing, I finally decided on the iPod. I know, all the non-iPod users are disappointed in me, and I can't blame you. But after checking out some of the non-iPod models and playing with their UI and seeing how they look, etc., I just could not get over how much I love the iPod's scroll wheel. Plus, of the ones I saw retail, the price difference wasn't all that much. So I went for it (20GB, though I was so tempted to get a mini just for the pretty colors). In hindsight, if I had to do it again, I'd probably go with the Creative 30GB they have at Amazon for $170. But what's done is done. I also got iPod Armor, which is great because I tend to drop handheld things, except I'd really like a screen protector so that it doesn't get scratched up. Any suggestions, other than using Saran wrap? :D
Jade and I have been working out the itinerary for our East Coast Jaunt after many suggestions from friends and family. Well, I've been working on it and making her look at it, because I'm freakishly anal. (Especially when it comes to vacations where there is a limited amount of time, and I'm taking time off work to do it, etc.) So -- take a quick look and let me know if you have any comments about any of this, Bostoners in particular since we're trying to work out scheduling. We weren't even sure that we would be able to work Boston in, but it looks like we will -- with contingencies. I have a spreadsheet for the itinerary but I'll spare you that.
New York Food (we're foodies):
Artisanal
Grimaldi's Pizzeria
Ess-a-Bagel
White Castle (because we're West Coasters who have never been)
Thalia/Ruby Foo's/Haru/Rene Pujol, Blue Fin (when we're in the Broadway area for Spamalot or TKTS shows)
H&H Bagels
possibly a visit to the Soup Nazi if he's open when we're there
Boston:
No idea what we're going to do in Boston, but we're willing to take suggestions. We'll be there on Sunday and Monday, because we have to be in NYC on Saturday. I know that might make it difficult to meet up with people, because the times are so not ideal. We're planning to drive from NYC to Mystic, Conn. on Sunday, so that we can eat at Mystic Pizza for lunch (something we've always said we'd do, as we love that movie <g>). So we'll probably arrive in Boston around 4-5pm. Most likely we'll have dinner with my cousin and his family, but possibly we could be done by 8pm. Is there any interest from Bostonites to meet up for dessert/coffee/whatever?? I know the next day is Monday, a work day, so that may not work. :( The next day we're open, but again, it's a Monday so all you working types will probably not be available. But if anyone wanted to have lunch, that would be great!! Then we have to have a super early dinner, so that we can set back for NYC and arrive at a reasonable hour Monday night to return the rental car and what not.
I didn't put down any sites or anything that we're planning to visit, but rest assured, we will be hitting everything that we are physically and mentally capable of hitting before collapsing from exhaustion. <g>
