baby shower gift; ice cream!
May. 2nd, 2005 05:13 pmThanks so much to everyone for your baby shower gift suggestions. You're so knowledgable! I decided not to go with diapers, because it's her first baby and it's such an 'unsexy' gift. <g> I'm sure they'll need them later, but at the moment they're still in that everything-will-be-just-perfect stage, you know? Also, they don't live here, so I didn't want them to have to bring a mountain of diapers on that plane. I was actually going to go with
aud_woman_in and
gianfared's awesome suggestion of a vibrating cot... except no one had the one I wanted. :( There was a really nice one that I found at Babies R Us, but they were out of stock, and I didn't like the others (the material wasn't nearly as soft, didn't have the same features, etc.) I was similarly out of luck at Target. Being pressed for time (the stores were closing), I ended up buying an organizer-type deal, that they can hang at the end of a crib/changing table, to organize all the diapers/lotions/powders/wipes/what have you. Also, I got the baby this adorable little robe with a giraffe stitched on the front. Hee! Baby things are cute.
Oh, but so that reminds me, I have a story. So I went out of my way Friday night to get to the closest Babies R Us near me ... and walking in, it was like some kind of freakish baby paradise.
Well, baby parents paradise. Couples strolled hand in hand through the aisles, everything was perfect, neat, clean, orderly. It was HILARIOUS. Parenting, I think, can be summed up with an analogy using Babies R Us and Kids R Us. Babies R Us: The lofty ideal. Parents glowing with the accomplishment of having procreated. Quiet, tidy, perfect. Kids R Us: The bleak reality. Complete shambles. Noisy, messy, exhausting. Hahaha, you know it's true.
So I have the most exciting news! Well, it's exciting to me. After years and years of being sadly without it, Baskin Robbins has strawberry shortcake again!! It is my absolute favorite ice cream flavor EVER! It has seriously been years since I've had it, and every time I go, they never have it. :( But today, a confluence of events brought me there (there wasn't any parking at Cold Stone), and lo and behold, my flavor was there! I totally got a quart of it, because ... who knows how long it'll be there?? And it's just as good as I remember. Obviously, people don't love it as much as I do, or it wouldn't be such a rare flavor. :( They always have strawberry cheesecake, which is crap. (Sorry if you like it, I'm sure it's not crap to you.) This is the perfect blend of vanilla ice cream, strawberry swirl, and chunks of shortcake. Mmmmm. I would normally never do this, but ... I'm an adult and I can -- I'm having it for dinner! :D:D:D

Date: 2005-05-03 02:16 pm (UTC)In my area, KRU shares a space with Toys R Us, which may explain why it's so disorganized. I never want to bring my daughter to TRU because I'm afraid we'll never leave.
