Wednesday pick: White Otter
Fandom: Roswell
I have to admit, I haven't read very much Roswell fanfic. Maybe it's because when I was into it, there weren't a lot of stories that featured the pairing I liked most (Michael/Liz). Actually, let me backtrack. As a fan of the show, I had shipped Max/Liz. But partway through S2, they turned Max into a complete asshole, so I went looking for fanfic to either redeem him or find something else to interest me. I was pretty open to ships at that time, though I had always held some interest in Michael/Liz due to a scene from one of the early episodes ("Missing").
Then I found The Polar Novel (Mi/L is called the Polar ship, since the characters are such total opposites ... in fact, the name could work for D/G, too <g>). I was thrilled to see that someone else was interested in Mi/L too! And not only that, they were so into it that they had written a novel covering every episode of the show, with the assumption that Mi/L had something going on the whole time, in the background. Well. That was a unique and ambitious concept, and it was super interesting to see how she interpreted this episode or that to fit the events into her storyline, without actually defying canon. Thus, it's super long and I don't know if she ever finished it (my interest in Roswell waned), but the many chapters I read were done well, and really awesome to read.
The Polar Novel made a huge impact on my preferences and how I enjoyed the show.

Jade has posted Mynuet's prize fic for
the_feast! You must read this funny/sweet/entertaining story here. It's called "Gaco and Drinny," which is the funniest title EVER for a story about D & G switching bodies (blame Shar, it was one of her elements). Anyway, there's also a follow-up ficlet to the story, but that is only posted to our YGroup. Because they rock, and deserve a little something extra!

Looks like what most of us think is the likeliest thing to happen in canon (of the choices) is that Draco will be Slytherin Quidditch captain. I'm sure he'll be thrilled to hear it. What's up next for our antihero?

I made chili last night. It was sooooo easy and sooooo yummy, which is a great combination. What are your favorite yummy/easy recipes, and will you share them with me?

Edit: FedEx Online says that my new video card is "on vehicle for delivery," which is a whole day sooner than their original estimated arrival date. FedEx, if you actually get it to me today, I will sing your praises to all. There may be WoWing tonight, oh yes.

First off, boil beef brisket in some water. Once the beef is tender and cooked through, cool it (beef and water) down and then refrigerate. Get rid of the excess oil that will float to the top of the water once everything cools. I suggest doing this over night.
Then, take the beef out of the water (now beef stock) and cut it into thin slices. You can put this in a container and refrigerate it. And don't forget to save the beef stock as that will be the base of your broth! Also, add to the broth a little bit of salt, sugar, rice vinegar and soy sauce to taste.
Next you'll want to prepare the veggies. Slice up cucumber, radish kimchi (which you can get already prepared and jarred in an Asian market, etc) and some pear into small thin pieces/slices. You can put those in containers as well and refrigerate until needed.
Last, you'll prepare buckwheat noodles which you boil like spaghetti and then rinse in cold water. Once done, you can let them drain a bit longer in the fridge.
Once everything is cold enough, cut the noodles so that they are easy to manage and dump in the beef slices and veggies into the beef broth. Like I said, everything should be cold. And once everything is mixed together in the 'soup', add some hot mustard to taste.
Well, enjoy! It's a favorite of mine so if you decide to make it, etc. let me know what you think!!! Hmmmm... now I'm REALLY hungry!!! :-)
*hugs*

Date: 2005-03-10 06:04 pm (UTC)Actually, now that I think about it, I think I did read -- or try to read -- "Shadowheart," because it was the first novel she'd published in a long, long while and I saw it at a used bookstore. But maybe I need to read "For My Lady's Heart" first, because I just couldn't get into it. Or maybe I wasn't in the right "place" ... I have to be in that romance-novel mood. :D
