It's really easy, but there is some obligation.
Some of you probably already know about this, or have done it, or whatever. You know the score. For those of you who haven't heard of this before...
There's a promotion out there to give away Mac Minis (also iPods). You basically sign up, supply your info, complete one online offer, get other people to do the same, and then they send you your Mac Mini, totally free. The catch is small enough that I decided it'd be worth it, especially because then everyone else gets a chance at one, too. (Fear not re: legitimacy -- it's real, as per this Wired article, and the peeps who have already gotten their free Mac stuff.)
So here's all you need to know, up front, instead of having to surf around trying to figure out what the deal is.
1) You supply them with your email and mailing addresses. Probably they're looking to mine marketing material. The easy way around this is to create some bogus email account that you'll use just for this, at any of the free email places, then use that as your Mini Mac account. Unfortunately, there's no way to get out of supplying the physical address (unless you have a ton of them for some reason), but they need a place to send the Mac Mini.
2) Completing an online offer. So yeah, in order for me to get a referral, you have to complete this (as does anyone you want to get a referral from). There are a lot of online offers, though, so you can totally find one that won't cost you a lot (or anything -- like applying for a credit card). I went for the online Blockbuster thing, since I've been meaning to try that out anyway. So why not benefit someone if it's something you're going to do anyway? :D (It was me,
heinous_bitca! <g>) Especially if it also enables you to start your own campaign for a Mac Mini.
3) Referrals. You get 10 people to sign up for their own Mac Minis, and as long as they complete one online offer, that Mac Mini is totally yours.
I mean, it's simple enough. And if you think about it, spending $10 or whatever to get a $600 item isn't a bad deal at all (I can cancel my Blockbuster subscription whenever I want). Theoretically, you could get 10 friends/family members to chip in $10 each to fulfill some online offer thing, and then you'd have your Mac Mini. Or even give them the $10 to do it. Sure cheaper than buying one retail. ; )
Anyway, if you'd like to help out my cause, here is my referral code. And if you do it, please be sure to let me know, so I can shower you with thanks!! :D
Meanwhile, if you know of any movies I ought not to miss, let me know! I love playing around with my new Blockbuster queue. <g>
Also, think you're so smart? Take this quiz and we'll see about that. :)) Let me know how you do! I ended up getting a 7, and sadly, I am v. proud of it.
