*HUGS to everyone on my friends list* It sounds like you need it. Some more than others.
This morning, I drove into the Darkest Cloud Ever [tm], which has apparently moved from the California-Nevada border. But it's okay, because it was 43 degrees when I got into my car, as opposed to the 27 degrees it was yesterday. Yay for cloud cover!
At the moment, I am doing something v. exciting and momentous.
I have desired a new computer for quite some time now, but my old one worked just fine for my purposes. It's still a decent machine, but I need more than 19GB of hard drive space, and I'd like to be able to play some of the new, cool games out there. So now (with my brother's help, of course), I am buying the parts for a new machine! Wheeee! Well, researching, mainly. Final approval will come from the bro before I actually plunk down any money. Why am I building my own machine, you ask. Well...
1) Doing it this way is less expensive.
2) You get exactly the kind of parts you want, without having to settle and pay for things you don't want. One of the things I'm going to get is a video card that would never come installed on a normal consumer machine.
3) I built my last computer in just this way, and it wasn't difficult.
4) There's a great sense of accomplishment once you're done.
The hardest part is hunting down all the parts you want at the best prices, and of course, knowing what parts to get, what goes with what, etc. (But that's what brothers are for.) Once it's complete I'll share all the specs with you guys, because I won't be able to resist weeping all over my new baby.
If, like me, you enjoy the Green Day: They will be on Last Call with Carson Daly tonight (1:30am PST), where they will play the 9-min. "Jesus of Suburbia."
OMG Alias is on tonight, isn't it?! Crap, I have plans to have dinner/go see The Aviator and I didn't set a timer!! That means I have to drive all the way back home to set it, which is in the opposite direction of where I want to go. ARGH. I could always get Jade to send it to me, I suppose, but I don't want to wait that long. And you don't really want to wait that long for my commentary, do you? *snicker*
Also, will likely see Elektra and In Good Company this weekend, both of which look like guilty pleasure fun. :D
When I got back from vacation, I found out that while I was gone I received another MVP award at work! Crazy. And it turns out there is a bonus for getting it, other than just kudos and the chance to put it on your review, only I didn't know about it until Monday because they put it in my physical mailbox at work ... and on average I check that about once every three months. <g> The reward is gift certificates to the mall, which is nice, except I'd prefer cash. The two awards together would have paid for my Kate Spade splurge in Vegas, thus easing my conscience, but now I am being forced to splurge some more. Oh, it's just not right. These are not the lessons I should be learning.
I'm pretty smug right now because UCLA and UW sit atop the PAC-10 (mhoops). (Though I can't believe the Bruins beat the Huskies and the Huskies only dropped two spots while the Bruins remain unranked! :-l) Another reason I want to live in LA again: The PAC-10 tournament March 10-12 is at the Staples Center this year. And tix for the whole shebang is only $100! *weeps bitter tears*
Oh yeah. You might have already seen pimping about this, so if you've already done your fandomly duty and voted, ignore this reminder. The Portkey Readers Choice Awards are going on right now, and many wonderful stories by authors you like are nominated. I would never presume to tell you to vote for one ship pairing (D/G) over another (D/G), so go forth and (D/G) do what you must, as best (D/G) befits your conscience (D/G). The important thing (D/G) is that you make your voice be heard. <3
Also, I want to give a shout out to the nice, loud Ukranian man at the shoe repair shop who fixed the broken zipper on my favorite pair of boots for free. Thank you, Nice Loud Ukranian Man!!!
Edit: You know you're too involved with fandom when you read this headline: Power Plants Agree to Slash Coal Emissions and think, OMG, Power Plant/Coal Emissions slash? How would that work?

Date: 2005-01-12 11:38 pm (UTC)When it's winter I want it to be summer, when it's summer I want it to be winter. I'm just fickle like that. I don't actually want 102F, though, so I can find it in my heart to feel slightly sorry for you. Wouldn't it be nice if I could take 25 degrees from you?

Oh and, thanks for that bit of Green Day info! Will remember keep a look out tonight. :) Oh and, preferably no waiting on the ALIAS commentary, please! *snerk*
Also, since you mentioned it, I really must go see In Good Company this weekend. Guilty pleasure, indeed!
Anyway, have fun tonight and good luck w/ the building of the

Date: 2005-01-13 12:00 am (UTC)It will be a veritable supercomputer when I'm done! Look out, world!
Re: Green Day, I will probably be asleep by the time they come on, so I just have to remember to set a timer for it.
I will cross my fingers for both you and me that IGC is good. I couldn't take another bad movie so close in succession to Steve Zissou.

Date: 2005-01-13 12:53 am (UTC)Well, we got to see Unfortunate Events and Steve Zissou... Jeez. Maybe we shouldn't see movies together.
The #1 question I've been asked since my return is "So what did you do?" And my mind draws a total blank. What did I do?

Date: 2005-01-13 04:08 pm (UTC)I have a question about your new Kate Spade. Is it the medium or small travis? I checked out the medium one, and I think it's a bit big for me.
