So last night, I finally beat Prince of Persia.

I tried to drag the experience out, playing a little bit each day, but last night I just had to see how it all turned out. All I have to say is: ohmyGOD that I may have to write video game fanfic. That is so wrong.

Just a series of scattered thoughts...

- Dude, his sword at the end? Rockin'. Who needs to turn back time when you've got a sword like that? I weep for all the difficult battles I had to get through when this sword would have taken care of it in 10 seconds. Of course, where's the fun in that?

- Oh yeah, the dagger does come in handy when the Prince is PLUMMETING TO HIS DEATH, which, in my hands, was all too often.

- OMG, when Farah's in the baths, and is all, "Here I am" "I'm right here!" etc. I was so completely lost. I was like, WTF do I do?????? I think it took me more than an hour to figure it out.

- Did they do it after they bathe together?

- I still can't believe the most difficult time I ever had battling the sand monsters was way early on in the beginning, with Daddy. I mean, I definitely got better at fighting as the game wore on, so maybe it wouldn't be so difficult for me now, but at the time I was just like OMGWTF THIS IS TOO EARLY IN THE GAME FOR THIS! The rest of the battles were cake compared to that. And the last battle w/ the Grand Vizier was so lame! Though of course he was all sick and stuff.

- Did they do it in the catacombs when it's like pitch black except for occasional clouds of sand and you can hear them talking/moaning and what not?

- When the Prince lost the rest of his shirt I was just like :O.

- :O

- "No wonder Amelia kept going on and on and ON about how hot the Prince was!" I did like that he progressively lost more clothing as the game went on. All games should be like that. :))

- :O

- There was one other time when I thought they might have done it. Can't remember where now.

- How I LAUGHED AND LAUGHED when the following exchange occured:
"Look, a crack!"
"Let's see where this corridor leads first."
*pan to reveal obstacle course of booby traps*
"Okay, you can take the crack."

- And when she called him "my love"!! <3

- We never do find out his real name, right?

- He was Persian; what was she?

- It was so cute when he kisses her at the end, and she's like "Yo, I'm not skanky even though I don't blame you for assuming it given the way I dress" and then he uses the dagger to take it back! *weepz*

- I can't believe that's how it ended!!!!!!! Oh how my heart breaks for the rich, handsome, skilled-fighter Prince! Although I'm not quite sure how it happened that he was able to turn back time that far. Hmmm.

- I started playing the original PoP, and omG at how lame it is! I can't even control the dude. It's like the hardest game ever.

- I read that there's actually a sequel to Sands of Time. Confirm or deny?

Next installment of Portkey Party is delayed a bit because Jade doesn't have Internet access! Woe! However, she'll soon have DSL, which will make up for the pain of these last couple of weeks.

Edited: Eeeeeeeeeeee -- "Uber-producer Jerry Bruckheimer, looking to replicate the success of his film PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, has acquired the rights to the video game PRINCE OF PERSIA to adapt into a big-budget epic for Disney." Full article here. And the best thing? One of the co-writers is the game's creator. Hopefully he had something to do w/ the Prince/Farah storyline.

Dude, you must write fic.

They totally did it. But not in the puffs of sand part. But after the bath? Oh yeah.

I TOLD you he was hot. It really was a brilliant decision to have him lose more and more of his clothes.

I believe Farah is Indian given the architecture of the palace, her clothing (which I think is basically a sari modified for "I am in a video game, look how 733t my stomach is," and that her father is a sultan.

There is going to be a sequal but I have no idea if Farah is going to make an appearance. There's some info here. Looks to be a lot darker in tone but the Prince seems to be shirtless a whole bunch which is what is really important.

If the rumors are to be believed, Farah's not around. That really makes me pout. :(

However, I just found THIS: http://www.joblo.com/index.php?id=3735

"Uber-producer Jerry Bruckheimer, looking to replicate the success of his film PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, has acquired the rights to the video game PRINCE OF PERSIA to adapt into a big-budget epic for Disney."

Squeeeeee!

Maybe she's not around but he's doing all this fighting and brooding for her? Maybe? C'mon, go with me here.

But, OMG, a PoP movie! Squeeeeee!

I told you he was Draco.

You MUST look at this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v456/sareaokelani/PrinceofPersiacomicstrip.gif

[livejournal.com profile] seldon pointed me to it, but with my luck they'll take it down tomorrow so I had to save it myself.

Maybe she's not around but he's doing all this fighting and brooding for her?

Very well, I shall go with this theory. But if there's anything in the game to contradict it, I shall be utterly crushed and will blame you for my broken heart.

HAHAHAHAHA! I love Penny Arcade. I had seen that before but I had forgotten all about it.

I'm totally playing the game again because of you and I'm rushing through it but I'm savoring all the Prince/Farrah parts.

"'I'll meet you at the baths.' She treats me like a servant! It's my own fault really. With women, you have to show them who's in charge right away or they'll walk all over you. From now on, she'll toe the line! Assuming I ever find her again, of course."

Feel the love, dude. OH! Have you ever switched to first person mode and looked at Farrah for a long time? Throughout the game, she'll react to him in different ways. It's adorable.

Hahahahahha that you're playing the game again! But really I shouldn't laugh, because I have already gone into withdrawals and want to play it again. Particularly because sometimes Farah (it's just one R!) is far away or mumbles or whatever and I can't hear a damn thing she's saying.

OMG the baths monologue was the BEST. "STOP TALKING TO YOURSELF!" And, "I know! Maybe I'll marry her. That's the only way to keep her in line." or whatever he says. Teehee.

I haven't ever switched to first-person mode and stared at Farah, but I'm glad you're perverted enough to do so, because now I shall!

"Oh, you meant those baths. I went the ones clear across the city! I had a nice wash and a rubdown with fragrant oils. Too bad you weren't there!"

Oh, it's one R! I'm so ashamed.

Damn you for making me all obsessed again. You had better write some fic.

Throughout the game, she'll react to him in different ways. It's adorable.

I noticed that, too! As soon as I realized that I would stare at her at every saving point just to see if she'd say something different this time...

Also, you blame me for everything, so your threat means nothing to me. The real enemy will be the devs of the game if they totally leave Farrah out. Even if they do, I'll add her in my mind.

Oh yeah, the dagger does come in handy when the Prince is PLUMMETING TO HIS DEATH, which, in my hands, was all too often.

From a design standpoint, I just had to admire that they took the dagger away from you at the end to ramp up the difficulty level - it's a natural and clever progression and a nice bit of game design. Annoying as hell, but clever.

OMG, when Farah's in the baths, and is all, "Here I am" "I'm right here!" etc. I was so completely lost. I was like, WTF do I do??????

I actually did the entire first floor by trial and error before I figured it out the clue as well. I felt very stupid when I realized what the answer was. However the obscurity of the solution and the fact that the only clue is so hard to notice made this puzzle too hard - it stands out like a sore thumb in the entire experience :(

But it has a great reward!

Did they do it after they bathe together?

At least some serious snogging - but the prince did fell asleep, so I'd say all signs point to yes :p

Seriously, though, they absolutely did it in the baths - but not in the dark room, since it would take the climax out of the bath scene (no pun intended). The aftermath is not nice, though. Cruel developers, they had to go and pull our hearts out of our sockets and dance tap on it...

I did like that he progressively lost more clothing as the game went on.

It's nice to know female gamers aren't being ignored by the industry anymore :p

We never do find out his real name, right?

Nope. It's kinda tradition... the Prince of Persia has never been baptized in any of the games, so he didn't receive a name here. He's referred as "Prince" in all the interviews, though, so maybe "Persia" is his last name :p

(I would insert a "videogame character formerly known as Prince" here, but the joke is old and I'm tired)

He was Persian; what was she?

As Amelia said, she was indian. The final telltale sign is that her father was a maharajah, and as any fan of Moulin Rouge (a.k.a. the Gospel according to Luhrman) knows, that makes her totally a sexy singing Indian Princess (royal blood, by the way, gives you the right to dress as slutty as you want to in both fantasy and videogame lore =P ).

It was so cute when he kisses her at the end, and she's like "Yo, I'm not skanky even though I don't blame you for assuming it given the way I dress" and then he uses the dagger to take it back!

It was my favorite part ;_; I loved how they integrated the time-travelling powers of the dagger into the story and how they allowed the Prince to literally steal one last kiss from his love ;_;

Oh, and you have to read this.

I started playing the original PoP, and omG at how lame it is! I can't even control the dude. It's like the hardest game ever.

The hard control is part of what made the game so popular... the smooth animation and its anal attention to silly physics laws like inertia were part of the experience. Believe it or not, the original PoP was a major influence in game design and adventure gaming in general. But yeah, it is very, very frustrating - especially since you only have 60 minutes of *real time* to rescue the princess. It's a very unforgiving piece of software.

I read that there's actually a sequel to Sands of Time. Confirm or deny?

Confirm. It comes out in November, is called Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. It has more combat, more bosses, more time-related bosses, less clothing... but no Farah. ;_;

I think I might have added my edit too late, and maybe you already know, but -- Jerry Bruckheimer has purchased the film rights to PoP:tSoT!

I just had to admire that they took the dagger away from you at the end to ramp up the difficulty level - it's a natural and clever progression and a nice bit of game design.

I totally agree, actually. I was impressed that they made him do that -- because partly it's also a test of the skills you've been honing throughout the entirety of the game. Of course, they do help you out a bit with that crazy good sword.

I felt very stupid when I realized what the answer was.

Yeah, me too. I had totally noticed the trickling water sound from the start and thought it might have something to do with the proper exits/entrances, except I was too flaky to notice that it changed location until ages later. :p

The aftermath is not nice, though. Cruel developers

Waaah, I know. I really like how emotional it was, and how the progression of the Prince/Farah relationship was so well done, because at that point you understand Farah's motivation. I do wonder why the Prince's blood is pink and not red, though. :)) (Or maybe it was just my TV screen...) You know the part where he's holding onto the blade and bleeds on it? Totally pink for me.

It's nice to know female gamers aren't being ignored by the industry anymore :p

I was thinking that, myself. I was like, interesting that this game, like most video games, are targeted toward young men. What does that say? Do boys like to feel they are being tough when the character they're RPing rips his shirt off? :D

royal blood, by the way, gives you the right to dress as slutty as you want to in both fantasy and videogame lore

Hahaha, good to know.

how they allowed the Prince to literally steal one last kiss from his love ;_;

Gawd, it's even sadder when you put it that way!!!

Believe it or not, the original PoP was a major influence in game design and adventure gaming in general.

Interesting. I have no doubt that it was a wonder and a feat during its time. But for someone who basically only played Super Mario Kart after 8-bit NES, the video game evolution kind of passed me by.

It has more combat, more bosses, more time-related bosses, less clothing... but no Farah. ;_;

That is so, so wrong. *SOB*

Jerry Bruckheimer has purchased the film rights to PoP:tSoT!

I didn't know that o_O Actually, it looks like a good match - PoP is begging to be a fun, action-filled, over the top adventure movie. Cool!

the progression of the Prince/Farah relationship was so well done, because at that point you understand Farah's motivation.

I think that was the best part of the game - how they handled Farah's and the Prince's character development without having a cut scene every five minutes. The progression, as you said, was very well done.

I do wonder why the Prince's blood is pink and not red, though. :)) (Or maybe it was just my TV screen...)

I remember it being red... then again I wasn't paying much attention, since I figured out in that moment why she was not being mentioned in the previews of the sequel and I was busy entering into shock ;_;

Do boys like to feel they are being tough when the character they're RPing rips his shirt off? :D

*LOL!* Maybe you are into something there...

And, BTW, I second Akscully's petition - you need to write PoP fanfiction. Give in to the geek dark side! :p

Video game fanfic, hehe! You know you want to, especially since Farah's not going to be in the sequel ... ;)

As for Bruckheimer ... if the man can restrain from casting Keira Knightley in another "big-budget epic", I may just get excited about this thing. Ah, heck. I'm excited anyway :D

*sob* re: Farah.

Keira Knightley kind of has a good look for a foreign-princess type role, though. <g> But yes, she got a bit too overexposed for me.

I'm thinking I'd really like to see Rose (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v456/sareaokelani/rosebyrne.jpg) Byrne (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v456/sareaokelani/rosebyrne2.jpg) in the role of the "enemy princess." Last seen (by me) playing Briseis in Troy.
