Zzzzzzzz ...
Apr. 16th, 2003 02:10 pmI am so freaking sleepy that it's all I can do to keep my eyes open. Caffeine doesn't work on me, and I don't know what else to do. This has made me even less productive as usual, as I'm like a giant slug at present. Jade is working on another D/G story ... it's going to be a series ... and I've read the prelude to it and it's lovely. Yaay D/G! <g>
Q: Read the books?
All except OotP, but that should be rectified shortly. <g>
Q: Where will you be on June 21st (release of the Fifth book)?
At work, then at a local Borders where I preordered the sucker.
Q: Who are your favorite characters?
Previously, in canon: Snape, Fred Weasley. In fanfic: Draco.
Q: Who are your favorite relatively minor characters? (minor meaning they were never the main focus in any one of the books so far)
Fred Weasley, Cho Chang, Dean Thomas.
Q: Favorite Professor? (If your favorite character is a professor, please pick another professor)
Snape, because he cracks my shit up, and Lupin, because he's so sweet and angsty, all on his own.
Q: Have any HP merchandise?
Jade and Robbie once got me a Slytherin banner. I also have some bumper stickers, Draco and Tom Riddle action figurines, and Draco and Harry Legos. Oh, and a desktop calendar. (Heehee!) See, when you get into something and your friends know about it, they are v. good about feeding the obsession.
Q: Do you relate to any characters?
Hermione, Ginny, and fanfic Draco.
Q: Do you look like any characters?
Probably closest would be Cho Chang.
Q: Do you act like any characters?
Eh, I probably act like all of them at least some of the time.
Q: What is your favorite house?
Slytherin House, baybee!
Q: Is there a house you absolutely hate?
Hate, no. But I do think Hufflepuff House is fairly useless.
Q: Honestly, not just because of what house is your favorite, what house would you be in?
Ravenclaw.
Q: If you were a student, placed in the house you'd honestly be in, what sort of house member would you prefer to date?
I don't know -- are there any hot Ravenclaw boys? Hmmm ... I might have to make one up.
Q: Okay, suddenly you are a student in Harry's year. Pick someone you'd die to date.
I'd very likely have a crush on Harry and possibly Draco (if he were more like he is in fanfic, for sure I would), so one of them. And maybe that as-yet-uncreated hot Ravenclaw boy.
Q: Okay, now you are back in time, a student with James Potter. Pick someone you'd die to date.
Sirius Black or Remus Lupin, I think.
Q: Now, you have answered whom you can date, now let's talk about just flings. Which Harry Potter character(s) would you like to have nice long shag with, repeatedly?
Just shagging? Draco. Or the hot Ravenclaw.
Q: One at a time, or all together?
I'm a one-at-a-time girl, though I suppose if they wore chains and groveled nicely ...
Q: Who would be your secret HP crush?
Oh, definitely Tom Riddle. He's so evil and people look at you all aghast when you say you think he's hot. Are they blind?
Q: Is there a character that annoys you to no end, and should you meet them in real life, you'd want to kill them?
The parental Dursleys, Dobby, Gilderoy Lockhart.
Q: Do you ever compare people to material in the Harry Potter books?
I compare everyone to everything, my friend.
Q: Do you ever privately sort people into houses when you meet them?
No, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to such a game.
Q: Who is your favorite founder?
None of them really do anything for me, so I'll say Salazar Slytherin and hope that it's an interesting story.
Q: Do you really believe the statement "Not a witch or wizard in Slytherin doesn't go bad"?
No -- if that were true, 1/4 of the wizarding world population would be evil. I would believe that most evil people are Slytherins, but not all Slytherins are evil people. It's the old square-rectangle thing: A square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not necessarily a square.
Q: Do you really blame the founder of the house for all of the out-of-date prejudices that Slytherins seem to have?
No, I blame wizarding society in general, and those who run Hogwarts, for encouraging segregation in the student population. If you have an established "evil" House and then you sort kids into it, aren't you essentially creating a self-fulfilled prophecy? How could a kid help but think, "My god, I was sorted into Slytherin, must mean I'm evil, so why resist"? Bad administrators!!
Q: Do you think that Draco Malfoy will actually redeem himself as many fandom folk try to portray him as doing?
If you mean "redeem" as in turn from his father and the Dark Side, I do think it's a possibility. But one can only hope that he doesn't completely change into some pallid, boring, white-washed version of himself. He can be on the side of good without being good. Kind of like Snape.
Q: Do you think that Professor Snape can actually go back to spying?
What, for Dumbledore? I would doubt it. Voldemort doesn't strike me as being that stupid. If Snape were able to spy again, I think it would be because Voldemort allowed it and has tricks up his own sleeve.
Q: Is there any character you would give your wand arm for, just to see them die?
Wasn't this already answered up above? To make this a little more interesting for myself, I'll phrase it a different way: Is there any character you'd want to see die in the Draco Trilogy by Cassandra Claire?
Why yes, there is. Hermione makes me want to hurl her off the nearest cliff.
Q: Is there any character that in the event of their death you would have no qualms about holding Rowling hostage until the author writes the next book and finds some way to bring them back?
Not really. JKR knows what she's doing, and there's nothing more annoying than fans who think they know better than the creator of the story itself. However, I will say that there are several characters I would miss dearly if they died, chief amongst them Draco.
Q: Do you read fan fiction?
I've tried not to, but it's a losing battle.
Q: Where do you usually haunt for fan fiction?
Portkey, FF.net (though it's so idiotic over there I don't really want to, but everyone posts there and it's an easy way to find updates on several stories at once), Fiction Alley, Restricted Section
Q: What is your favorite fandom pairing?
I'm a D/G girl all the way. I don't much care about the sub-pairings ... could be Harry/Hermione, could be Ron/Hermione, could be Hermione/George, it's all fine w/ me.
Q: Who was the first pairing you ever read?
Draco/Hermione and Harry/Hermione in Cassie Claire's "Draco Dormiens."
Q: Has the slash bug caught you?
Not quite, though I do see the deliciousness sometimes of Harry and Draco together. Still, the slash fans I've encountered are so annoying that the pairing gets affected by it; I don't want to read anything that engenders such obnoxious fans. (Like the square/rectangle thing, I'm aware that likely not all slash fans are like this; however, those I've had the misfortune of witnessing are.) And I think there are annoying tendencies in all the shipperdoms, but in my experience Harry/Draco fans are the worst.
Q: What sort of pairings are you most willing to read?
As long as there's D/G, I'm very open to the rest of it. I don't particularly like some pairings (Draco/Hermoine and Hermione/Snape -- or any teacher/student pairing -- come to mind), but the D/G is nearly always sufficient to keep me there. Otherwise, I don't have enough of an interest to keep reading.
Q: Is there any pairing that when you see it, you want to beat someone over the head with a blunt object? If so, who?
Clearly, the really out-there pairings count. However, of the more "traditional" pairings that I feel this way about, it would have to be Draco/Hermione, Harry/Ginny, Weasleycest, and any student/teacher or child/parent pairings.
Q: Which rare pairing are you currently on a kick about? In other words, reading every fan fiction of them you can get your hands on?
I haven't yet gotten to the point yet where I feel the need to branch out. I read a couple of Ron/Ginny, Ron/Pansy, Draco/Cho fics I liked, but I'm not into any of them enough to pursue obsessively.
Q: How are you about original characters serving as the main character in a story, particularly in a romance with a canon character?
Despise it. I'm all for original characters, but not as the center of the tale. The opportunity for extreme Mary Sue-ism is great, and there's no way you'd be able to prove to me that they're not a Mary Sue.
Q: What do you think of when people use alias like DracoMalfoysGurl?
That they're probably a young teenager or adolescent.
Q: Do you think that there is any elitism among authors in fandom groups? If so, who?
Sure, but it's like that in all fandoms. And since I'm only here to enjoy myself, I just can't waste any time thinking about it or caring.
Q: Who is your favorite author?
There are many. Cassie Claire, Anise, Davesmom, Cinnamon, Jade (of course), Tupper, Rhi Marzano, StrangerWithMyFace, msscribe, Lee Velviet, Renebre, Lissanne, and I'm sure a few others who I've forgotten to mention.
Q: What makes you love a fan fiction?
Proper grammar and spelling goes a long, long, LONG way. Because usually when you have the basics down, you're also a more mature, thoughtful writer. A unique premise (or at least a unique way to approach a favorite plotline). Characters who are intelligent and mature, and who resemble their counterparts in canon. Moments that make me laugh out loud. Moments that make me get all choked up. A turn of phrase or a line that I wish I'd written.
Q: What makes you hate a fan fiction?
Poor spelling/grammar, poor characterization, uninspired plot, uninspired, lazy writing.
Q: How often a day to check fan fiction?
Oh, I check daily. I'm often bored at work. <g>
Q: Read the books?
All except OotP, but that should be rectified shortly. <g>

Date: 2003-04-16 04:32 pm (UTC)Oh I'd dearly love to give you an update! All I can say is: I'm working on it. So far the first chapter is 35+ pages and there are still a few scenes I haven't gotten to yet. Not to mention transitions and then polishing. But anything is better than nothing, I suppose. <g>
