It's been so warm lately that I feel like I am permanently sticky. It's gross. I keep having to take cold showers to cool off and get the sticky off. The thing about Seattle is that there are more homes without AC than with, and mine's one of the ones without. Yesterday I just wanted to dive into an ice bath.
I'm really loving my new hair care products. I was never one to believe in spending a ton of money on such things, especially because for the most part I'm fine with my hair. But I'm so happy with this stuff that I have to share. I talked about my new hair stylist a couple posts ago, but I didn't talk about this because I didn't really know at that time. The salon where she works uses Oribe products. If you look for those products on Amazon you'll see that they're highly rated... but hella expensive. But considering how well they work, I'm okay with the cost.
So far, I've found two distinct ways I can style my hair with their products, and there's no way around this... my hair is AWESOME when I use them. It's like I'm always having a good hair day! I've tried a number of different combinations and these are my favorite so far (amounts will vary; I have long hair so this is what works for me)...
Salon blowout look - This is my version of the salon blowout look that is so wonderful whenever you get your hair done professionally. I use a round brush and my Elchim hair dryer and mimic the styling method Ginger uses as best as I can (it's much easier to do it to someone else than to yourself). I work in a couple pumps of Oribe Balm d'Or Heat Styling Shield into my wet hair, and follow it with a quarter-size amount of Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Cream. Then I style as appropriate. Once my hair is styled and dry, I use Oribe Gold Lust Hair Oil on my ends and any remainder around the top of my head. ** Sadly, this style doesn't work as well when the weather is hot/humid. I find that the curl goes flat very quickly, even though it still looks really good, much better than my normal hair. Still, it takes me ~30 min to do, so with that kind of time investment I really want as much bounce as possible!
Beachy supermodel look - I wasn't really consciously aware of such a look until I started using Oribe Surfcomber Tousled Texture Mousse. Amazon reviews were littered with people wanting that "just came from the beach look" that supermodels like Gisele and Freja have, and that this mousse really delivered. I wasn't actually looking to mimic that look, but I bought this mousse because Ginger used a mousse on me the first time and I thought it was this one, but now think I'm wrong. Anyway, when I used it as part of the "salon blowout" look, it didn't seem to make any difference, so I decided to try it on its own. And WOW. Now I not only know what they're talking about when people mention "beachy" hair, but I LOVE IT! I don't know how to describe it other than that, but you'd know what it is when your hair starts doing it. This one is really easy to do, and perfect for summer (not only because a beachy look would be more appropriate in summer, but because it requires a fraction of the time as the salon blowout look, and the latter doesn't work as well in hot/humid weather). I work a golfball-size pouf into the top of my WET hair to mid-shaft, then another pouf of the same size from there to the ends. Then I throw my head back and forth, tousle vigorously, and let it dry naturally. And that's it!
