So far I am totally failing on my weekend goals (finish the two books I'm in the middle of). Instead I've watched TV. >.> There is really nothing like vegging in front of it when it's cold and rainy. What I've watched:
- First 3 episodes of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I like it so far! Other than kind of being annoyed by Sarah Connor, but then that's nothing new, I've always found the character kind of annoying (but I liked Linda Hamilton, don't get me wrong). At least I don't have a visceral hate of Lena Headey like
jade_okelani does, which is good because I want to enjoy watching her as Cersei Lannister. :D
- Black Swan. It was v. good, but it's a movie I never have to see again. Natalie Portman was excellent, but I found her character fairly annoying. I also always enjoy Mila Kunis.
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. I actually liked this more than I thought I would. I've never been a big fan of Jake Gyllenhaal, but this movie might have finally changed my mind about him. Anyway, it wasn't *great*, but then it had a really high bar for me. I looooooooooooved the video game of the same name, and the storyline there was just so good. The banter between the Prince and the Princess was similar in spirit to that of the game, which was good, but ultimately the relationship doesn't grab you the same way. Or at least it didn't for me.
This is probably a good segue way to my next topic... Golden Globes predictions! I was going to put it off due to laziness, but I only just realized it was tonight, so it's now or never. My 'predictions,' as always, don't actually really just predict who will win. They're also mixed with who I want to win, because I can never do these things without any sentimentality.
Edit: She's too busy to make a post about it herself, so I've also added Jade's predictions. She's much better at predicting these things than I am, so it's sort of my own personal game to try and win against her. Keeping a running tally.
Jade - 15
Sarea - 10
Damn that Jade! Kicked my ass again. Oh well, I'll have the Oscars to try again.
My 2011 Golden Globes Predictions
Best Motion Picture, Drama
Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The King's Speech
The Social Network
I'm going to go with the popular choice: Inception. As in, the movie most everyone will have seen. I've heard lots of great things about The Social Network, but I'm biased against things I haven't seen. My second choice would be The Fighter.
Sarea: Inception
Jade: The Social Network
Winner: The Social Network
Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical
Alice in Wonderland
Burlesque
The Kids Are All Right
Red
The Tourist
Oh FFS, what kind of choices are these? I guess I'll go with "The Kids Are All Right" because I like the actresses in it.
Sarea: The Kids Are All Right
Jade: Alice in Wonderland
Winner: The Kids Are All Right
Best Director - Motion Picture
Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan
David Fincher, The Social Network
Tom Hooper, The King's Speech
Christopher Nolan, Inception
David O. Russell, The Fighter
I'm going to go with Aronofsky. Thought he did a great job with Black Swan.
Sarea: Darren Aronofsky
Jade: David Fincher
Winner: David Fincher
Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama
Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network
Colin Firth, The King's Speech
James Franco, 127 Hours
Ryan Gosling, Blue Valentine
Mark Wahlberg, The Fighter
Really, Christian Bale isn't in this category? I guess he submitted himself in supporting, which makes sense so as not to compete against Mark and cancel each other out, but honestly, his was so not a supporting role. Anyway... I'm actually going to go with Ryan Gosling on this one, though it'll probably go to Colin Firth.
Sarea: Ryan Gosling
Jade: Colin Firth
Winner: Colin Firth
Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama
Halle Berry, Frankie and Alice
Nicole Kidman, Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence, Winter's Bone
Natalie Portman, Black Swan
Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine
Definitely Jennifer Lawrence gets my vote. She was so amazing in Winter's Bone. Natalie Portman was great in Black Swan, so she'd be my second choice.
Sarea: Jennifer Lawrence
Jade: Natalie Portman
Winner: Natalie Portman
Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Comedy
Johnny Depp, Alice in Wonderland
Johnny Depp, The Tourist
Paul Giamatti, Barney's Version
Jake Gyllenhaal, Love and Other Drugs
Kevin Spacey, Casino Jack
Well, JD is going to cancel himself out, so... I'll give this to Jake Gyllenhaal, since I have a newfound respect of him after Prince of Persia.
Sarea: Jake Gyllenhaal, Love and Other Drugs
Jade: Johnny Depp, Alice in Wonderland
Winner: Paul Giamatti, Barney's Version
Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy
Anne Hathaway, Love and Other Drugs
Julianne Moore, The Kids Are All Right
Annette Bening, The Kids Are All Right

Sarea: Anne Hathaway
Jade: Annette Bening
Winner: Annette Bening
Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture
Christian Bale, The Fighter
Michael Douglas, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Andrew Garfield, The Social Network

Jade: Christian Bale
Winner: Christian Bale
Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture
Amy Adams, The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter, The King's Speech
Mila Kunis, Black Swan
Melissa Leo, The Fighter
Jacki Weaver, Animal Kingdom
Oh God, this should definitely go to either Amy or Melissa, but I fear they'll cancel each other out. Mila was fine, but really her role was not nearly meaty enough. I do love HBC, but I haven't seen The King's Speech. I think I'm going to go with Melissa Leo. As great as Amy was.
Sarea: Melissa Leo
Jade: Amy Adams
Winner: Melissa Leo
Best Screenplay - Motion Picture
127 Hours
The Kids Are All Right
The King's Speech
The Social Network
Inception
As much as I viscerally despise everything to do with Facebook, I'll give this to The Social Network. It's going to win something, and I'd rather it be this than one of the bigger awards.
Sarea: The Social Network
Jade: The Social Network
Winner: The Social Network
Best Animated Feature Film
Despicable Me
How to Train Your Dragon
The Illusionist
Toy Story 3
Tangled
Toy Story 3. How to Train Your Dragon was very cute, but really, the Toy Story movies could be in the regular Best Picture categories and they wouldn't be out of place.
Sarea: Toy Story 3
Jade: Toy Story 3
Winner: Toy Story 3
Best Foreign Language Film
Biutiful
The Concert
The Edge
I Am Love
In a Better World
Biutiful is the only one I've even heard of, so... that.

Coming Home, Country Strong (Gwyneth Paltrow)
I See the Light, Tangled (Mandy Moore,
There's a Place for Us, Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (Carrie Underwood)
You Haven't Seen the Last of Me, Burlesque (Cher)
Toss up between "There's a Place for Us" and "Coming Home" -- but I'm going to give it to the former.
Sarea: There's a Place for Us
Jade: Coming Home
Winner: You Haven't Seen the Last of Me, Burlesque
Best Original Score - Motion Picture
Alexandre Desplot, The King's Speech
Danny Elfman, Alice in Wonderland
A.R. Rahmin, 127 Hours
Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, The Social Network

This is a total shot in the dark for me. I like Nine Inch Nails so... Trent Reznor and The Social Network.
Sarea: Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, The Social Network
Jade: Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, The Social Network
Winner: Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, The Social Network
Best Television Series, Drama
Boardwalk Empire
Dexter
The Good Wife
Mad Men
The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead has gotten a lot of attention, but I'm not sure it's Best TV Series kind of attention yet. If Dexter was going to win it would have been last season, definitely not this one, which I thought was its weakest yet. Have heard great word of mouth for both Boardwalk Empire and The Good Wife. Can Mad Men pull it off for the fourth year in a row? I kind of think it can. I'm going to go with Mad Men, even though I'm sure people are sick of it winning.
Sarea: Mad Men
Jade: Boardwalk Empire
Winner: Boardwalk Empire
Best Televison Series, Comedy or Musical
30 Rock
The Big Bang Theory
The Big C
Glee
Modern Family
Nurse Jackie
Misfits and The Inbetweeners should be in this category. Though I guess Misfits would also fit in Drama, since it did win the 2010 BAFTA for Best Drama. Anyway, either of them should win if they were in this category, but they're not, so... Once 30 Rock lost its throne, I think it would be very hard to regain it. So I'm going to pick Modern Family, which I hear is oh-so-hilarious.
Sarea: Modern Family
Jade: Modern Family
Winner: Glee
Best Actor in a Television Series, Drama
Steve Buscemi, Boardwalk Empire
Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
Michael C. Hall, Dexter
Jon Hamm, Mad Men
Hugh Laurie, House
I always think this should go to Hugh Laurie, but I never get my way. I think Dexter is a bit past its prime. If they give the nod to Mad Men for the fourth year in a row, they may want to reward a newcomer here. And only Steve Buscemi fits the bill. (He's on a show that's in its first season.)
Sarea: Steve Buscemi
Jade: Jon Hamm
Winner: Steve Buscemi
Best Actress in a Television Series, Drama
Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men
Piper Perabo, Covert Affairs
Katey Sagal, Sons of Anarchy
Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer
I think she's a dark horse, but Elisabeth Moss. Otherwise Kyra Sedgwick, because GG voters seem to love her.
Sarea: Elisabeth Moss
Jade: Kyra Sedgwick
Winner: Katey Sagal
Best Actor in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical
Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Steve Carell, The Office
Thomas Jane, Hung
Matthew Morrison, Glee
Jim Parsons, Big Bang Theory
It should always go to Alec Baldwin. That said, I think 30 Rock has gotten all the accolades it's going to get. Feel the same way about Steve Carell and The Office. So I'll go with Matthew Morrison, though I think he's a dark horse as well.
Sarea: Matthew Morrison
Jade: Jim Parsons
Winner: Jim Parsons
Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
Hope Davis, Special Relationship
Jane Lynch, Glee
Kelly McDonald, Boardwalk Empire
Julia Stiles, Dexter
Sofia Vergara, Modern Family
It is so wrong that Jane Lynch would go up against Julia Stiles, for such different roles. I want Jane Lynch to win, though if she doesn't, Julia Stiles is my second choice.
Sarea: Jane Lynch
Jade: Jane Lynch
Winner: Jane Lynch
Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
Scott Caan, Hawaii Five-0
Chris Noth, The Good Wife
David Straithairn, Temple Grandin
Eric Stonestreet, Modern Family
Chris Colfer, Glee
It should be Scott Caan, for making a bad TV show even tolerable to watch, but it won't be him. I'll pick Chris Colfer, because I'm on a Glee streak.
Sarea: Chris Colfer
Jade: Chris Colfer
Winner: Chris Colfer
Best Actress in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical
Toni Collette, United States of Tara
Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
Tina Fey, 30 Rock
Laura Linney, The Big C
Lea Michelle, Glee
I should go with Lea Michelle to keep my Glee streak alive, but I find her super annoying (even though I love her voice). Instead I'll go with Toni Collette, who I've loved from way back.
Sarea: Toni Collette
Jade: Edie Falco
Winner: Laura Linney
Best Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
The Pacific
Carlos
Temple Grandin
You Don't Know Jack
The Pillars of the Earth
I heard such amazing things about The Pacific early on, yet it's really died down since then. I bet it's going to go to Carlos or Temple Grandin, but I'll still pick The Pacific, because I loved Band of Brothers so much.
Sarea: The Pacific
Jade: Temple Grandin
Winner: Carlos
Best Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
Dennis Quaid, The Special Relationship
Ian McShane, The Pillars of the Earth
Édgar Ramírez, Carlos

Heehee, Idris. Ahem. Édgar Ramírez is my prediction.
Sarea: Édgar Ramírez
Jade: Al Pacino
Winner: Al Pacino
Best Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
Claire Danes, Temple Grandin
Hayley Atwell, The Pillars of the Earth
Jennifer Love Hewitt, The Client List
Judi Dench, Return to Cranford
Romola Gara, Emma
I don't care who wins as long as it's not Jennifer Love Hewitt. Can't stand her. I pick Claire Danes.
Sarea: Claire Danes
Jade: Claire Danes
Winner: Claire Danes
