Jaime is in the Final Four! Go vote for him, or if you are so inclined, for Kvothe, his opponent. I haven't read Patrick Rothfuss's The Name of the Wind, but it's one of the books I've ordered. This is probably Jaime's toughest fight yet, because both he and Kvothe are big fan favorites. The other battle going on is Rand Al'Thor vs Drizzt Do'Urden. I haven't read any of the books they're in, so I don't have a dog in that fight, but if Jaime wins and faces one of them, it shall be an epic nerdy fake fight between fictional fantasy characters! I don't even know when I got to like Jaime so much. I disliked him throughout most of ASoIaF. But somehow, by the end of A Feast for Crows, he was one of my favorites.
I've just realized...I may not be online for the final fight! Nooo!
So last night, I finished my D/G Exchange fic. YAY! Okay, it's not really done done because there's still a lot about it I have to fix (and that's even before my beta reader gets her red ink all over it), but still, at least the draft is done. That's like 90% of the battle. Anyway, it might be really stressful and hard while writing a story, but the joy and relief after it's done is incomparable. I felt like I really deserved to read other stuff, do other things, which made doing them all the better!
I'm still noodling with my March Madness idea, though it's changed a bit in my head. Since
chickfight is doing literary characters (though just female ones), it just seems repetitive to do the same thing. I think if I do one at all, it will be with a field of 64 of MY favorite characters, from any medium. It just kind of annoys me when I want to vote on some polling thing (like at Suvudu) and I don't recognize like 75% of the characters. It'll be easier to set up that way, too. I won't need to go through the long and tough nomination process. And I don't think I want to do cage matches. Characters with magic or supernatural powers will always have an advantage over those who don't. I think it'll just be based on favoritism. You know, who you think is actually the better character. But... I don't know if there would be broad interest in such a thing, so I'm still noodling.
On B.'s last day we went to the Steelhead Diner and had their 3 for $15 lunch ... they always give huge portions so I couldn't even finish half my meal and neither of us could eat our dessert. You know what that meant, though? I got to take TWO pieces of their chocolate pecan pie home. It is THE best pecan pie EVER. Not only are the crust and pecan filling delicious, but it's got a just-right layer of Theo's chocolate on top, and is served with caocao nibs and bourbon chantilly creme. It's like a perfect dessert.
Ahem. Anyway. It was pouring rain that day so we couldn't do anything to exercise off the lunch (I had originally wanted to go walk around Green Lake), and instead went to a couple of HPBs. We also went to H-Mart, which I discovered near my house. I can't believe I've never noticed it before. H-Mart is a Korean supermarket chain, and since it's closer to me as well as cleaner and a more enjoyable shopping experience than 99 Ranch, I'll probably be going there quite a bit. B. has a lot of Korean friends, so he knows quite a bit about Korean stuff. He just kind of showed me around and pointed out what different things were. I LOVE Korean food, and recently got a couple of cookbooks about the cuisine, so it's really exciting to have that H-Mart nearby!
For dinner we went to Senor Moose, which was good ... but strangely not the same. I ordered the same thing, and the waiter said that depending on the chef that day, it could be more or less spicy. It was a lot spicier than I remembered it being, and the flavor had changed subtly as well. It was still good, but if I'd had that version the first time, I might not have gotten so obsessed with it. I remember the leftovers from that first meal tasting just as good as it had the first time, so I don't think it was that there was just something different about my taste buds that first night. The chef this time probably used more chipotle pepper, which changed both the spiciness level and the flavor.
We had a super nice waiter (even if he did forget our appetizer), and he was like, "As good as that dish is, you have to try something else next time." And I was like, "Ummm... okay, maybe I'll try your other shrimp dish." And he was like, "Yeah, you don't want to get too crazy, branch out too far." I mean, yes, it's kind of embarrassing, but when I find a dish I really like at a restaurant, I just tend to order it every time! I need to find some chipotle peppers so I can try and recreate the dish myself. The other shrimp dish DOES sound good, though, and if the dish I like isn't going to be consistent, it'll be easier to try other stuff. B. ordered something the waiter recommended, but which I don't see on their online menu (a guy at the table behind us ordered it too). It was a pork dish, and it was a smothered in a spicy, 3-chile sauce and came with mashed potatoes and warm corn tortillas. It was good and he loved it, but I don't think I could order it myself -- too spicy/strong.
Our appetizer -- which ended up coming out after our meal -- was the hongos guisados, a simple mix of sauteed sliced mushrooms and poblano chiles. It was good but bland compared to our entrees ... it would have made a very good appetizer, lol. Oh well.
