Good lord, Arnold's CA's governor. Amazing. I really have no feelings about this whatsoever. I can't say I'm surprised, nor can I say I'm disappointed. If people were unhappy with the old regime, let's see what the new regime can do. CA's such a mess, it's not as though he could do that much worse, right? This snippet from the LA Times made me laugh, though:
UCLA philosophy and law professor Herb Morris voted against the recall at his Brentwood polling place. But the night before, the registered Democrat said, he had a troublesome dream that made him pessimistic about his party's chances.
In the dream, intruders had broken into Morris' house, and he panicked — until Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared. Morris embraced the dream-Arnold and was suddenly overcome by a sense of safety and stability.
Morris, 75, reckoned Schwarzenegger was having a similar effect on the subconscious of many California voters.
"I woke up realizing what a strong appeal he has — what a strong emotional pull," he said. "Deep down, [voters] are so anxious. And they're bored."
Yeah, boredom is always a good reason for throwing an incumbent out of office. If only Gray had encouraged Arnold to make more movies to entertain people, this whole recall might not have happened.
Jade, I watched Dreamcatcher w/ my mom last night. Didn't do much for me. Am glad I never saw it in the theater. It just ... made no sense, and you had to suspend too much disbelief, and accept too much without any explanation. Had a great cast, though, in particular: Damien Lewis (yay that you can now see him as Jamie, though why from this movie?! Was it the accent? Because he's actually British), Tom Sizemore, Jason Lee, and of course Donnie Wahlberg (I still cannot get over his transition from studly NKOTB guy to this actor who's twice now played someone v. frail). Morgan Freeman didn't do much for me. Damien and Donnie, reunited from BoB! Hee. Anyway -- my mom and I both were completely disgusted with how Jason Lee died. SO FUCKING LAME. It kind of skewed the whole movie after that moment. I mean, how unbefuckinglievably stupid do you have to be?! (Ha, have now read your commentary; I see we agree on this point.) Anyway, the DVD has an alternate ending, which I will watch when I get home tonight.

lissinthecity, who asked for holiday-type foods, and for anyone else who might be interested. There are few things in life I love more than food, so if anyone reading this has I-can't-do-without-this recipes of any kind to share, I want them.
The following is a kind of pumpkin cake, but not really. I don't know how to describe it, other than "really yummy." It's a recipe passed down in my friend Devon's family, and she had no name for it other than "the pumpkin thingy," so this is the arbitrary name we came up with. Hee!
Devon's Pumpkin Shizam
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
4 eggs, beaten
1 29 oz can of pumpkin filling
1 12 oz can of evaporated milk
1 box yellow cake mix (Duncan Hines or other kind w/ no pudding in the mix)
2 cups chopped walnuts
2 sticks butter (melted)
whipped cream for topping
Instructions:
Combine first six ingredients (to pumpkin) and mix until smooth (with beaters
or otherwise). Slowly add milk and mix until smooth.
Pour mixture into 9 x 13 inch BUTTERED pan. Sprinkle dry cake mix over the
mixture. Then sprinkle on nuts. Then pour melted butter over the whole thing -
get all the cake mix wet.
Bake at 350 for 1 hour...then let cool for 1 hr before serving (somewhat
optional...I know I can never wait that long).
Serve with whipped topping. (Freshly whipped cream is best.)
Cornish Game Hen
1 Cornish game hen (bet you didn't see that one coming)
4 cloves garlic (or whatever your taste preference is)
6-8 sprigs of green onion (or whatever your taste preference is)
6 tablespoons of soy sauce
2 tablespoons of slivered almonds
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1 teaspoon sugar
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Wash and dry hen, place in baking dish. Sprinkle sugar evenly over hen. Stuff and garnish with garlic and green onion. Garnish with almonds (you can stuff as well). Drizzle olive oil evenly over hen. Drizzle soy sauce over hen.
Put in oven and bake 15 minutes. Baste hen with juices. Bake another 15 minutes, then baste again. Bake 10 minutes, baste. Bake another 10 minutes, baste. Bake final 10 minutes, then move to plate and drizzle remaining sauce over hen. (Total bake time: 1 hour)
Serve w/ your choice of veggies. In case you didn't know, Cornish game hens are usually pretty small, so each one serves 1-2 people.
Cocktail Meatballs
1 lb ground beef
1 egg, beaten
1/8 cup butter
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
3 tbsp diced onion
1 8oz can jellied cranberry sauce
6 oz chili sauce
1 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tbsp lemon juice
Preheat oven to 350F
Mix together ground beef, egg, water, breadcrumbs and chopped onion. Form into 25-30 small balls.
Bake for 20-25 min, turning once, or microwave on high for 5 min.
In a 2 quart saucepan over low heat, blend together the cranberry sauce, chili sauce, brown sugar and lemon juice. Add meatballs and simmer for one hour.
Am also a great lover of chili and have many chili recipes, though there is one in particular that I've been meaning to try. Now that the weather is colder, seems like the perfect time to experiment! I have always wanted to attend a chili cook-off but sadly have never had the opportunity.
