Yesterday I saw The Darkest Hour, and other than admiring Gary Oldman's performance I can't say there was a whole heck of a lot for me there. It was pretty dry, and served very well as a companion piece to Dunkirk. :)) Honestly if the two movies had been munged together it might have made for one good movie instead of two so-so movies. One is about the political machinations behind Dunkirk (though admittedly also more about Churchill than just that one conflict), while the other was about the soldiers actually on the ground trying to survive it.

15:17 to Paris is coming out this weekend, and despite the critical unacclaim (I'm making that a word), I'm definitely going to see it. It's just going to be a cheesy, feel-good movie, and I'm okay with that. I'm kind of on the fence about the guys who lived those events in real life also acting in the movie. On the one hand, that's super cool; on the other hand, not everyone can actually act. It's super hard, frankly, and you have to have the skill and talent for it. Three random guys being able to jump in and act just fills me with skepticism.

I am in the middle of reading three books -- two are rereads and one is a partial reread, lol. A Wrinkle in Time series was one of my favorites growing up, though seeing the trailer for the movie made me feel like I had completely forgotten what it was all about. I'm also rereading a book about the chuck wagon cook of bygone times; I really loved it the first time I read it and I've had a recent hankering to read it again. And finally, I'm reading A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, at the rec of [personal profile] akscully. I started it, which made me realize that I had actually started it before. I'm not really sure why I stopped before; it will be interesting to see what about it had turned me off or maybe I just wasn't into it enough to keep going. I've started and not continued many teen fantasy type things, so I think I may be confusing it with a few other stories. :))
