sarea: (so involved being me)
Jade got called to participate in a market research about Sims 2. They're giving her $75 to play Sims 2 and tell them what she thinks about it. :O No one ever calls me for stuff like that.

Instead, my manager (T.) calls me in the other day and asks if I've ever considered being a mentor. (We have this mentor/mentee program at work; it's supposed to help you attain the position you'd like to have.) I was seriously thrown for a loop. I have considered getting a mentor for myself, but never to be a mentor. Apparently he and P. had lunch the other day and P. suggested it (potential mentee is some woman in our group whom I don't know very well). And T. added that it would be good for me to demonstrate my managerial skills if they're to move me in that direction. I was like WTF?!?! Where was all this coming from?? Can you imagine me being a manager? I'd be the worst. manager. ever.

Last night a couple of friends and I went and saw Friday Night Lights. So so good. I'm not usually a big fan of high-school-age sports, but there's no way any of those actors were 17. :)) What I really love is collegiate sports -- football and basketball in particular. I like the fact that these are kids who still have to go to school, who have dreams and ambitions, who play the game because they love it and may never be rich from it, who are learning valuable lessons about overcoming challenges, teamwork, and finding inner strength. I've never been able to get into professional sports because it's completely sterile and meaningless to me. Everyone's getting paid a ridiculous amount of money, teams change based on managerial and monetary decisions, and there's no real emotional tie. I know that's not true for everyone, but it is for me. Anyway. Loved the movie -- and am actually glad I saw it before reading the book.

Other than that, this week I have:

- finished Portkey Party, part 4 (useless for now since part 3 is only half done)
- finished my entry for [livejournal.com profile] sunshinefanfics's fic drive
- read half of The Last Coyote, a detective novel by Michael Connelly that P. lent me (I lent him Good Omens, because he's British and appreciates the humor)
- beaten Prince of Persia
- lost another pound, bringing it to 6lbs lost so far
- finished The Princess Diaries 6, which Jade got for me as an early birthday present, thanks to the overseas assistance of [livejournal.com profile] lissinthecity (coolest thing ever!!!)

So you see, I am not as much of a slacker as it might appear. :D
sarea: (hottie Prince!)
There's no going back. I have written video game fanfic. *weeps for self*

A 434-worder, based on Prince of Persia. I blame Amelia Carlos Jade all the people who egged me on.

A small slice in time with the Prince. )

I should have learned from Homer Simpson.

Homer: Note to self: Stop. Doing. Anything.
