sarea: (draco)

This weekend: Installed WoW. Spent hours with brother trying to determine why screen kept freezing. Discovered graphics card was a dud. Ordered new one. Began proceedings to get money back for dud card. Wondered why this new computer venture has been so cursed.

So to take my mind off this new hellishness, I am going to do two things to cheer myself up.

First, I'm going to make fun of [livejournal.com profile] jade_okelani by posting a small bit of chat (we've been redesigning our site):

sarea: *links to picture of Lego!Draco*
jade: draco is quite appealing with his giant wand
sarea:
jade: though i suppose harry's no slouch, either
jade: and he has a broomstick to boot.
jade: what?
sarea: i'm SO quoting that on livejournal
sarea: you're too obsessed with their phallus symbols
jade:

Second, a poll. :D This poll is All About Draco. Draco and canon. So if you have any interest in either/both, I'd love to hear your opinion.

Okay. This is a poll about possibilities, and likelihood. We all have our beliefs about what Draco might be facing in upcoming books, but there are a ton of possibilities. I'm really curious to see what people see happening for Draco in canon -- or what they think is more likely to happen to him than another thing. For instance, I know that a lot of us don't particularly care for Draco/Hermione -- but do you think that's more likely to happen than, say, Draco dying? I'm sure I've forgotten some options, but these were the most significant scenarios I came up with.

For the purposes of this poll, I'd like for us to set as much of our ship preferences aside as we can. So tell me, truly, what you think of the likelihood of these, based on canon. (The tricky part is keeping in your head what you've answered before.)

Interesting. We're redesigning our site, and somehow, you turn it into a way to mock me. Well fine, I'll show you. I'm not going to take your poll!

Oh, fine, so I'm taking it right now. YOU WIN, SAREA. YOU ALWAYS WIN.

Don't be so mockable, then.

Or really, don't be so interested in Draco and Harry's wand and broomstick.

:-l about your computer issues. The sucking continues.

I really, really think that Draco is just going to sort of fade away or become a mini Lucius except not as competant, which is saying something as Lucius doesn't seem to be that effective.

I didn't fill them all out because some of them, I just don't see ever happening at all in canon -- except one I left out in error, Draco being just like Lucius.

I'm kind of torn. At this point in time he could go either way. He could become like Lucius or he could throw his lot in with the good guys. I don't expect him to become any more pleasant to be around for the trio, but that's part of the fun. :) I just hope that JKR doesn't decide to let him fade away as the pathetic school bully...

Two things I really can't see happening are:
a) Draco having a romantic relationship with Hermione - and this is not because I'm partial to D/G (although I am), and not even because of Draco's prejudices and dislike of the trio, but because I simply can't see Hermione being attracted to him or, if she indeed was, doing anything that would undermine her loyalty to Harry and Ron.
b) Draco getting expelled from Hogwarts - not because I can't imagine him not deserving it at some point or other, but because I can't see Dumbledore doing that, if only because he wants to keep his enemies close... Lucius taking Draco away from Hogwarts would be a different story entirely!

Ultimately, though, no matter what will happen, I think Draco's development will always end up being more interesting in fanfic than in the books. The books are Harry's story, which means that we will always get Draco's development as far as it concerns Harry, which, in a way, will always be kind of two-dimensional...

I don't see anything "good" happening to Draco. Methinks he will either die (though not as a Death Eater) or quietly fade away as Harry turns his attention to more pressing issues.

Well I know what SHOULD happen, but I am not counting on little Ms Sparkle Adverb to do the right thing by Draco.

I'm absolutely convinced that Draco will be with the good guys. I mean, just think: the books keep talking about how splitting people into houses are bad and school unity is important. So, I think that J.K. Rowling is going to make Draco good--possibly a spy like Snape?--to show that not all Slytherins are Evil Creatures of Doom that everyone makes them out to be. Draco will still be his lovely sneering self to Harry and co., but he'll be on the good side. Also, Snape and James were supposedly a lot like Draco and Harry, so Draco and Harry will be on the same side but still hate each other.
