** I love geeky grammar quizzes like this -- however, what I don't like is that she doesn't actually tell you the right answers after it's over. IMHO some of them were rather poorly written, and it was unclear whether capitalization played a role in whether an answer was correct or not, etc. So, yeah. Bring a grain of salt with you.

And how they spell extremely without the third "e." But everyone knows that's extraneous and unnecessary, anyway. And how it's all, "the test and are and in." Perhaps these are high-level language skills that we don't have the higher brain function to master.

That was actually fun. And interesting. I still think, I did quite well, because I am NOT a native English-speaker. I've only learned the language about 10 years ago properly and don't use it regularly - neither written nor spoken. Although I have to admit that my English in science is a lot better.

I've heard before that non-native English speakers are actually usually better at grammar and this sort of thing, because they learn it properly. Whereas the average American (or whatever) just doesn't give a flying ****. That's the sad truth.

I agree. I've been in a US-college for half a year (this was 10 years ago). They started the first English course with an explanation of the difference between a verb and a noun. After this lecture I had to change to an advanced level because I was so bored and just plainly couldn't understand, why people had problems with it. I remember that they looked at me very strange, because even though my English was not good at all at that time, I always pointed out the words correctly without missing a beat. The highest level was nice and interesting, but they already had the grammar. So to find the apropriate level I had to go to 3 different courses. But I think in the end it was worth it. :)
