I think Gwen Stefani is a total superstar. She flat-out rocks. If you've ever seen No Doubt in concert, you've seen how the woman has presence. When she's performing on stage, it's like she could form a crazy cult and you'd be the first member. She represents the best parts of what being a woman/girl is all about. She's so cool she's a girl's girl and a guy's girl. She makes being a girl cool in that you don't even think of her as being a girl. She's just Gwen. She could do just about anything and make it look good.

But now she's got me going kind of ".........."

I've been listening to Love. Angel. Music. Baby., and I've just got one question: What the hell is a Harajuku girl, and why is Gwen so obsessed with them?

Here's the song. Have a listen.

Mentions of Harajuku are littered throughout the album, but that's the song dedicated solely to it. Or just view the lyrics.

I generally like the album, except for the last song, "Long Way to Go." It's just so -- cheesy, corny, unsubtle, obvious, insert your own adjective. The subject deserves better treatment than the song gives. :p

Meanwhile, I have beaten Fable. :( I shall miss playing it. Next time through, though, I'm going to go the evil route. Muhuahahahahaha.

In Harajuku, Japan, the fashion there is very ... different. Gwen loves the style of the girls in Harajuku. If you've ever seen pics ... it's like weird clothing and stuff. Gwen loves their style so much that she even has an entourage of the Japanese girls dressed in their wacky outfits. If you've seen her video for "Rich Girls", you'll see 4 of them in there.

A pic:

Their style is very wacky (in my opinion, of course), which suits Gwen Stefani and her ... zaniness, I suppose.

Look up "harajuku girls" in Google images, you'll find some examples of what they look like. :)

Harajuku is a place in Japan where trendy teenagers display themselves with the latest fashions, it's also a place where you can shop for the trendiest items and whatever else these kids are obssessed with. I really don't understand why she's changing her image like that. She can't even pronounce "Harajuku" properly. =_=

All I know is that they're those girls following her around and in all her vidoes, and that they've got "wicked style."

Harajuku is Tokyo's youth district, according to the Google search I did when I was asking myself the same question. And have you seen the video for "Rich Girl"? Bad enough she's covering frickin' Fiddler on the Roof, but she dances with all the grace of a 600 pound man with a broken leg, all dressed in skanky-ass faux piratey slutwear. And my God, it got worse for the Grammys.

Here are some pics of harajuku girls.

"Every Sunday groups of mostly teenage girls gather in Harajuku to be hip, to be seen and to express themselves through what is known as "kosu-purei" (costume play). "

ANYTIME that someone uses a Japanese word to describe Japanese pop trends, it will translate to English as "weird".

I agree with you on the whole Harajuku thing. When she was at the MTV European awards, she told someone from the press that they inspired her, and that no-one else could see them. Slightly odd.

And I agree with you on the song Lond Way To Go. It's such a weird sounding song as well. And it just seems like Gwen didn't really put much effort or thought into it; Nothing stood out, that would actually make a difference to how people view racism. Bleugh, I hate it when celebrities talk about racism, and other bad things in the world sometimes.
