I went out to vote this morning, v. concerned about how long the lines were going to be, given all the reports and the early voting and what not.

Drove to the voting place (a church -- nice demonstration of separation of church and state, huh?), went in, got my ballot, voted, left. The whole thing took maybe 10 minutes. As usual, I should believe nothing the news tells me. I went through the ballot quickly; I left the presidential vote for last, because right up until I did it, I had no clue who I was going to vote for. I'm a very moderate moderate. I'm not particularly thrilled with either of the candidates (certainly not enough to be singing either's praises or floating their respective banners around), and I really just hope that when all is said and done, we can all move forward without a lot of controversy and hate. Because Jade has already told me that if election coverage disrupts Gilmore Girls, she is going to be v. annoyed. And I like to keep Jade as unannoyed as possible.

THANK YOU for all the birthday well wishes; I appreciate it muchly!! (Especially since the day off turned out not to be a day off at all, grrrr.) Some of you are such givers. As many people as possible ought to benefit from your generosity, so here we go:

* [livejournal.com profile] lissinthecity's wonderful Lost and Found, a moving piece about the aftermath of Arthur Weasley's death (though it's more than just that!). (D/G, H/Hr, R/P)

* Day of the Dead, by [livejournal.com profile] jade_okelani, a totally insane but awesome piece featuring some of my favorite fandom-related things. (Including D/G, Spike, Sark, Mulder, Scully, the Roswell gang, and Titanic!Rose/Christian Bale.) She also posted some awesome drabbles, including D/G and a whole slew of other pairings. <3

* Smuttiness starring jealous!irrational!Draco by [livejournal.com profile] mynuet, as part of the ever-expanding story where Draco owns Ginny's Quidditch team and Ginny's boffing her boss. :D (D/G)

* A totally sweet and wonderful story by [livejournal.com profile] clanmalfoy, called What Hols Are For. I am happy to report that this is only part one -- there's more to come, yay! (D/G)

* Also, [livejournal.com profile] nokomis305 posted chapter 21 of The Shotgun Bride yesterday, thus finishing up the story in time for my bday, lucky gal that I am. If you haven't read it yet, do -- it's totally hilarious and one I was hooked on. How thrilled am I that there's a sequel?

* Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] weekend_soul, who linked to the BEST HALLOWEEN COSTUME EVER. I might have to agree.

Lastly, I wrote a Lucius/Narcissa story for [livejournal.com profile] kirixchi's Turn Back Time contest. I wanted to use the opportunity to stretch my fic wings a bit and write outside my norm of D/G, H/Hr, R/Hr, etc. It's called Reversal of Fortune, and I'd appreciate all comments/critique. Only, if it's the latter, please try and be tactful, since it's my first attempt and all. <g>

Love to all.

Edit: I was also remiss in neglecting to mention the nice little haul I received from Jade and [livejournal.com profile] ropo:
* a White Castle t-shirt (which I'm wearing right now!)
* The Viscount Who Loved Me, by Julia Quinn, the only Bridgerton book I was missing!
* a necklace and summerdress from Hawaii
* The Family Guy, season 3
* a Rachel Green driver's license, which will come in handy since Jennifer Aniston and I look exactly alike
* The Princess Diaries 6, which I devoured weeks ago

Thanks, you guys!! I also just got a $50 AmEx gift cheque from work (essentially cash, which is better than the days of gift certificates to random places). W00t.

That is a really excellent Lucius/Narcissa you have there. A VERY interesting twist. (And D/G at the end, woot!)

Thank you so much!

Yeah, normally I wouldn't be able to resist the D/G anyway, but this time it actually had plot/character ramifications. That's my defense and I'm sticking to it. <g>

I read your L/N fic last night and I don’t think I can describe how much I enjoyed it. I am so glad that you moved beyond your comfort zone with this one. I have often ranted to my friends about how frightening it is to be able to make vitally important decision at an age when you don’t even know who you are much less what who you will be in ten years and to see a fic devoted to pointing out how much one bad choice can cost you really hit close to home with me. I don’t know if this was your intent, but it certainly had an effect on me and I wanted to let you know.

On a completely different note, I was also very glad to see a happy!Draco ending up with Ginny.

Thank you so much for the feedback; I really appreciate hearing from people on this story. I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoyed it. You're not far off wrt my intentions ... what I really wanted to show was that our choices, no matter how small they might seem, may have significant repercussions. That one decision can impact the rest of our lives, and the lives of other people. And for this story in particular, or in any universe where time travel is possible, I wanted to explore the idea that just because time travel is possible, it isn't necessarily desirable. In Narcissa's case, her life, as we saw, would have actually been better if she hadn't interfered. Though I'm sure another story could easily be written in which the opposite is true. : )

As for D/G ... I pretty much like to insert that in anything I write, since I lurve it so, but in this case there was a significant reason for it -- I had to show how different Draco's life was from one scenario to another. : )

Thanks again for your feedback!

A White Castle t-shirt! Way cool :D And go your work for the money. Awesome!

I feel ashamed to admit I did not know you were a Bridgerton fan! Oh boy. I love that series to death. I've just reread 'em all for the upteenth time. My fave, if you're interested, is Romancing Mister Bridgerton because I adore Colin :D Melissa got me started on 'em and I believe I read them in order.

Wah! I missed your birthday! This is what happens when RL forces you to neglect LJ for a while ;_; I'm not entirely back yet, but I wanted to drop by and wish you a very happy (and very belated) birthday. :)
