Alias: Blood Ties
I wanted to like this episode more than I did. I think it's because, with all that happened, I had already written it in my head ... and I like what I wrote, better. <g> For the most part.
Vaughn's Discovery of Two-Timing Wife: This wasn't exactly a surprise, given what went down in the last episode, but it was rather disappointing. I really wanted this to be a big, gasp-worthy discovery. Catch Lauren in a clinch w/ Sark or something. Would have been fabulous if he'd overheard them on the cell phone the other week. Now, it was just a given.
Lauren Trying to Psych Vaughn Out When Trying to Discover the Location of the Passenger: I liked this. I was 100% certain that she was only trying to trick him, so there was no worry on my part that she had grown a heart for him or something. And I actually didn't hate Vaughn in this episode. Even felt a twinge of pity for him, because it must suck for your wife to care so little about you. But then I remember that he's Vaughn, and he brought this all on himself. It was a bit of a downer to know that all the torture would just lead to more S/V angst.
The Discovery of the Passenger, aka Sydney's Sister: I like the actress they chose to play Syd's sister fine, but part of me was hoping that it would at least be someone semi-well known so I could gasp over them. (You can see that I really like surprises.) I was also rather hoping that this wasn't her actual sister, but someone who would lead us to the actual sister. That said, since this Nadia is apparently the real deal, I have to say that she got all her looks from her mother -- and right glad she should be about it, too. (It would have rocked if Syd's sister would have been Katie Holmes, say. She's got the height, the dark looks, the right age.) Nadia said she was an agent ... from where? Didn't catch it.
What Sloane's Up To: God, what a wily bastard. Gotta love him. He's always looking out for #1, and right now, I don't even know if he's played his hand and he's been outed to be as evil as he ever was, or if he's got another valid excuse yet again. That's the thing w/ Sloane; you just never know how he's going to stump you.
Lauren Attempting to Kill Vaughn: This was great. I was soooo scared that when Sark told Lauren to kill Vaughn and then left the room, she was going to get all soft. Obviously, Vaughn's not going to die, no matter how much I can wish for it, so he was either going to be saved by Lauren or by the CIA, and I am so. glad. that she turned up the whatever-it-was and was clearly going to leave him to die. I just needed to see her make that decision.
Syd Promising Not to Idealize Her Sister/Get Too Attached: I loved how she promised Jack she would learn from her past mistakes, and then the second she saw Nadia, that was thrown out the window. Syd uses her heart too much. I really miss seeing Syd ... I mean, she's still there, but this now feels more like an ensemble show whereas previously it was really all about Sydney and the rest of the cast was supporting (strong support, but support nonetheless). Now the focus is less on her, and ... I kind of miss the way it used to be.
How many episodes are left? I've been avoiding all the previews for next episodes, and this one was the hardest yet to turn away from. There are no words for how much they need to get Lena Olin back.
