question about foreskin

Draco: circumcised or uncircumcised? Why?

Sometimes it's fun to research for stories. <g>

(Sorry guys, I tried to make a poll but apparently you have to post the poll and the entry at the same time. SIGH. Next time I have a question about Draco's foreskin, I'll try and remember. Besides, a text box in a poll has a max of 255 characters; this seems like a topic in which a lot of explanation might be necessary. <g>)

I would say uncircumsised, and I'll tell you why:

....I can't actually believe there would be a spell for that, and I doubt they would do it the snip-snip Muggle way, given everything else they have spells for. But then, I've always looked at the true wizarding world as a more ye olde fashioned society, so that probably adds to my supposition.

However, practically speaking, circumsision was traditionally a Jewish practice that we of the western world adapted for health concerns; I doubt the wizarding world would have the same worries about disease, infection, etc.

So yes, I believe Draco and all the other Purebloods are as God made them. The muggle-borns, however, is anybody's guess.

I agree, for all the reasons you just said! You saved me the trouble of trying to make an intelligent reply. :p

Haha, yay! I saved someone trouble! That almost never happens. *g*

Would you like to borrow this to use on her? :p

[identity profile] jade-okelani.livejournal.com 2004-06-20 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Truly, it is most useful. However, I have recently acquired this and think it will let me express myself quite nicely. Don't you think?

Sadly, neither will actually discourage Sarea; she is only encouraged by negative reinforcement.

Excellent icon!

I suppose this would only encourage her as well. *sigh*

[identity profile] jade-okelani.livejournal.com 2004-06-20 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, there's really no discouraging Sarea. Everything will be taken as bait and acted upon accordingly.

One of the little facts of life I've learned to live with. Not that I'd really want her to change; that would be far too boring. Like Mark and Bridget, I like her just as she is. (Though w/out all the UST.)

Hrm....I think that in England it isn't nearly as popular a practice as here in the states, so I'd probably go with not.

I'd almost bet that RL Draco-Daddy is, as his family is "move-to-Israel"-level Jewish...so....if JI=Lucius, then Lucius=circumcised and I'd bet Draco would be whatever his daddy was. So, under that set of circumstances, he would be.

You need a poll. :P

-Kiri, who has thought WAY too long and hard about this.

Did you see this (http://www.circlist.com/rites/british.html)?

I'm looking at your icon, and then your question, and do you know what my filthy little mind is now wondering???

Re: Oh My WORD!

[identity profile] sarea-okelani.livejournal.com 2004-06-20 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
Of course I know. We are all wondering. <eg>

Thanks for the link! It's really helpful to know, of course, that it's not a popular practice in the UK. But I wanted to see if anyone might have some other thoughts re: the magical community that might change the situation a bit. Thinking of those sorts of things isn't my forte. ; )

I'll use the icon again, in case you'd forgotten. :D

You are an ebil little bint. ;P

Did you read the parts about the Royal family on that website? The big question in it seems to be regarding if Prince William is cut or not. Poor heir apparent (having everyone thinking about his penis). ;)

The thing it made me think about is the King's English. Perhaps Victoria wanted to set apart royalty (and the aristocrats followed her lead, so it would seem) and that's the reason she started having the Royals circumcised.

Given this line of though, it would be plausible for the Malfoys to be circumcised.

As far as the magical community, why not? They aren't a perfect society; they don't have everything figured out. So, I could see where this would be something that is done in the same sense as the non-magical folks but with a spell - like cooking. *cough* Since it's not that common in the UK, it would be a possible device used to separate the classes.

An interesting little tidbit is that vitamin K, which is needed for proper blood clotting, is at it highest at the end of the first week of life, and that's when Jewish tradition deems circumcision to take place - on the eighth day.

My opinion on the matter: write what you're comfortable with.

Uncircumcised. It's not a common practice among Gentiles in England.

[identity profile] 1anonymous1.livejournal.com 2004-06-20 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
lol, you made that so easy.

[identity profile] 1anonymous1.livejournal.com 2004-06-20 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I think so, since its cleaner and he seems pretty big on staying clean.

Oh my God.

Uncircumcised.

Uncircumcised, as it is not common practice in Britain.

[identity profile] gawariel.livejournal.com 2004-06-20 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't even know that circumcision was a popular thing in the states. Well, it isn't around here (Belgium) so I would say not.

[identity profile] fiannan.livejournal.com 2004-06-20 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
Welcome to the bad place.

Circumcised. Why? Largely because many have argued at its relative obscurity and the reasons it wouldn't be a prominent practise in the wizarding world, and, thus, having Draco Jnr. cut would make "him" worthy of wonder and attention.

And for some reason, circumcised just seems to go with Draco and his immaculate appearance and upbringing. Don't ask me why. Really. I feel ebil enough considering this topic already :P

[identity profile] sarea-okelani.livejournal.com 2004-06-20 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. These are all very good points. Thanks for being brave and having a dissenting opinion. ; )

That's me alright. The rebel. ;)

Not with moi you didn't. <g> It never even occurred to me to ask this question until like two days ago. Maybe you were using someone else as a substitute to have this convo w/ me. Amelia, maybe? :D

Ah, Amelia, that's it! I meant to speak with MC about it, but she wasn't available....
