a spot of light floods the floor//and pours over the rusted world of pretend
I never know what to get my mother for Mother's Day. This year, the dilemma has been taken out of my hands. Just spoke to my mom. Our conversation went like this:
Mom: So what have you gotten me?
Me: Nothing yet. What do you want?
Mom: Wellllll ... I've already purchased your Mother's Day gift for me.
Me: I see.
Mom: It's a Dooney & Bourke purse.
Me: How nice of me!
Mom: Isn't it? I figured this would be better than flowers or something.
Me: Nice to know what you think of my flowers.
Mom: You can pay me back when I see you.
Me: Fine.
Is nothing sacred anymore?!
I worked almost all weekend. It sucked. But I did see I Capture the Castle -- here's what I thought of it: Extremely disappointing. I haven't yet read the book, but I'd heard great things about it and kind of wanted to save it for
literocracy. I still do want to read it, and will try mightily not to let the movie influence my thinking, but who knows if I'll be successful?
It's not so much that it didn't end all lalala happy, because I'm okay with that. Especially in books. But I'm kind of giving the book the benefit of the doubt that it is more cohesive and the characters less annoying than in the movie, which is not that high a bar.
I haaaaaaaaated Rose. I also hated Simon. I didn't bear too much love for the main character, either -- I can't even remember her name right now. She was just so stupid. Initially she seemed tolerable, cute even. And then she fell in love w/ Simon because, what? He kissed her? Whilst being engaged to her sister, who he was "in love" with??? Gawd, give me a fucking break. And meanwhile, there's poor Stephen, who was not only cute, but behaved wonderfully ... and he got the shaft! For loser Henry Thomas! Ugh.
I actually liked Neil (I've discovered that I like Marc Blucas just fine; it's really Riley who was intolerable), except he had a big black mark against him because he liked Rose, whom I have already mentioned I hated.
The "romances" didn't feel romantic at all, and I was rather looking forward to that part of it. There was no chemistry between any of the actors, and the idiot father made me wish I could kill him with my butter knife. The stepmom was okay. She and Neil should have gotten together, and then maybe I would have been happy w/ the film.
Alias: Legacy
Lauren and Sark roxors, even though Sark barely had any lines in this ep. Are they getting rid of David Anders? Because they don't seem to be doing a whole hell of a lot with him lately. The only thing I don't like about Lark at the moment is that Sark seems rather dickless. OMG Lauren with the rocket launcher? <33333 It's amazing how much I disliked her before, and now she's one of my favorite characters.
Vaughn. Ugh. If he got any stupider he'd be starring in a movie with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. You know, just because you made a total ass of yourself wrt Lauren doesn't mean that that's anyone else's priority.
Sloane has lost favor with me (well, as much as he had) in this ep. Either be a mushy dad or be single minded in your ambition. Now you're just wishy washy, and I have no respect for that. Plus, what, everyone seems to know that Jack saved Sloane from certain lethal injectiony death, and is okay with it -- to the point where his actions don't even need to be explained??? WTF???????
Jack/Katya, huh? Now it's One Big Incestuous Spy Family. It's interesting, though. I'm not a huge Jack lover like many others, but if I shipped him with anyone it would be Irina. (That has dimmed somewhat with the confirmation that she had an affair with Sloane, however.) I don't blame him for boffing her sister, though, considering Sloane and Nadia -- I just wonder where JJ & Gang are going with this. Are they giving up on Lena Olin, and Katya is supposed to be Jack's new twu wuv? Or is he just using her? What about Katya's motivations? I don't doubt that she finds Jack attractive, but I do doubt that that's all there is to it. There are implications here, particularly since it's clear Jack and Irina had been starting to be all lovey again (which had always been rather inexplicable to me). Does Katya hold a grudge against her sister in some way? Did Irina ask Katya to come on to Jack to see if he would respond? Oh, those Derevko women. And is she a captain or a colonel? The people doing the subtitles couldn't seem to decide.
I kind of wanted Nadia to die. Not because I hate her, but because she doesn't really interest me at this point. As for Rambaldi's message ... yeah, don't give a shit about that, either. I have no faith that it will be anything that stunning. Hope they prove me wrong.
Oh, and for those of you who are interested, I've posted the answers to the lyrics meme. (Read the edit to see how to view.)
