Fanfic Author Appreciation Week: Day Five; WoW; Alias: The Index; Draco Poll

Fandom: Harry Potter
See, the trouble with doing HP authors in HP fandom is that you very likely already know of the authors yourselves. <g> Like Cassie, you can't not have heard of Liss. But Liss is quite prolific, and very open about ships, so it might be interesting to hear what stories of hers are my favorites.
What I admire most about Liss's writing is how many and varied her tastes are. I think it takes a special kind of writer to be like that, to "know" so many characters and ships well enough to write them -- and write them well. I first discovered Liss's work by stumbling upon Love Is a Battlefield, which I finished in about two sittings. I was still fairly new to the fandom then, so I had no idea if she'd written anything else. Oh, how innocent I was! <g>
Like the authors mentioned before, my favorite stories by her primarily focus on the ship pairing that I'm interested in (and if you don't know what that is by now, I can't help you) -- Where the Heart Lies, which has hints of Oliver/Ginny, Shag Buddies, and Perfectly Nice. However, my favorite story by her is probably Palette, an edgy, angsty fic that is not only well written, but plays on the trait (aforementioned) I most admire about Liss -- it has multiple pairings, a few of which may not be comfortable for some people. Speaking of which ... she was the person who first got me into reading Ron/Ginny, and discovering that I might like it a little. :"> Try The Red and the Black for a little R/G action. :D

FEDEX RULES.
My new video card did arrive yesterday (though I wasn't home to pick it up, so actually had to go to the FedEx facility to get it), and I have now played WoW! Finally!
Me,akscully, jade_okelani, and sumdumgai and his friend played for hours last night. It was so fun! I'm a Night Elf Hunter on Silvermoon -- called, predictably, Sarea -- if anyone wants to join us. :D

Dare I hpoe that Alias is becoming a good show again? Indications from last night seem to affirm in the positive.
This episode gives me great hope that the faith I've held in this show by continuing to watch it even when it was sucking hardcore has not been misplaced.
The multiple, interweaving storylines felt like the Alias of old -- as did the Sloane suspicions and the twists we didn't see coming. It's not quite what it was, but this is a very positive step in the right direction.
I thought it was a bit odd that Sydney hadn't told her father of any of Dixon's suspicions, especially since she and Jack are on relatively good terms right now, and it's not like Jack's been trying to cultivate an extremely friendly relationship with Sloane. Of course, it becomes obvious why they couldn't have Syd confide in her father later, but the fact that it was a noticable slip is an indication that things aren't quite up to par just yet.
The Vaughn parts were actually interesting, and I didn't hate him at all in this episode, although I must roll my eyes at the idea of yet another parent-who's-supposed-to-be-dead-but-isn't.
How badass is Nadia?! She's my new Lauren. Although I think people in general like Nadia more than they ever did Lauren. <g> Mia Maestro was really wonderful during the dinner party scene, and during the Sloane sting. And when she drove into that warehouse to save Jack -- niiiiiiiice.
The really bizarre thing is Jack, Sloane, Nadia, Syd, and Weiss all at the dinner party making nice about family. I mean ... they're celebrating Nadia's birthday, which came about because Sloane had an affair with Jack's wife. And yet there doesn't seem to be any discomfort about this fact ... all the discomfort came out of Jack's long, rambling exposition about the benefits of hybrid cars. :))
Can't wait to see what Jack and Sloane are getting up to. I'm even looking forward to the Vaughn stuff.

I am super annoyed right now. Want to know why I'm super annoyed? It's because of a teacher. Not teachers in general, but one specific teacher.
See, there's this article I'm supposed to write. But the article doesn't work without my being able to interview the teachers and students who are using the program -- they're the most important part. Last week our partners tracked down a few teachers, and asked if they would be willing to be contacted to talk about the program with me. All three said they could be contacted, though one cautioned that she might not have a lot of time.
I emailed all of them, asking to set up a bit of time to chat about the program and what not. One of them replied and said she couldn't do it, as she's super busy and has a family emergency, which is, of course, perfectly understandable (and she was the one who said she might not be able to, anyway). One of them has not yet replied.
The third, however, who responded *on Monday* that she would be happy to be contacted, declined my request. Her response was that she preferred not to at this time, and thanks for asking. And my only response to that is, THEN WHY DID YOU SAY YOU'D BE WILLING TO DO IT, NOT FOUR DAYS AGO?!

I actually am only missing three signatures on my petition. I've got one coming (as soon as his brother goes back to school and he gets the computer again), and I'm going to ask
If you do play Horde, play Tauren. They kick MUCH ass, and your characters will seem ickle tiny when you go back to playing them. Look for Saffron or Ruana on Llane. Saffron has the petition, but Ruana is my main char. :)
I'm on most nights for a little bit (Eastern time). Tonight I'll likely be on before 6:00, and then again after 9:00 (game in the middle). Tomorrow I'll be on before 6:00 again, but likely not on again (game again, but this one goes until 10:00 usually, so I crash afterwards). I'll be home Thursday night (as far as I know) and Friday as well.

I actually had my heart set on playing Undead, but that's really good to konw re: Tauren. I'm sure I will play each race/character before it's over. <g> What's your char, btw? I'm sure you've said at some point, but it would have been before I played the game, and I didn't know anything from something else back then. :D

BTW, is it possible to create a bunch of faux characters to sign a petition, or does it have to be 10 *account* holders?

Ruana is a 25 lvl Tauren Druid, and Saffron is a 16 lvl Tauren Shaman. My husband has a 39 lvl Tauren Warrior (he got the game before I did, and just hit 39 last night!) named Pokyros, a 24 lvl Tauren Hunter named Ebonhorn, and a 16 lvl Orc Warlock by the name of Wyrd.
We also have a Skylear, NE Druid (20th) and Nakeina, NE Hunter (16ish, IIRC) on Whisperwind. The former is mine, the latter is his.
If you do create an undead, let me know, as I'll need to take a zepplin over to the Eastern Kingdoms. I'll plan on going right away with Saffron, as I need to go over there now to learn new tailoring and enchanting stuff from Undercity (the orcs in Orgrimmar won't teach me any more tailoring stuff, the bastiches!). I was planning on maybe doing some quests over there with Saffron, too.

I didn't even think about how you'd need to meet me with the petition. Okay, I'll tell you right now that I'm creating Undead for sure -- and I made a mistake on the timing, I'm definitely on after *9pm* your time, but don't know if you're up that late playing it. I may be able to get there earlier, possibly right at 6 your time if I play my cards right.
But if you have several characters on different servers (or maybe even the same one), you can possibly sign different petitions, right? Like, if you wanted each character to be in a different guild? I'm just asking academically at this point, since I don't have any plans to join a bunch of guilds or anything. <g>

After 9:00 my time is fine. I think I may have confused you in my comment earlier. We play a ftf RP game from 6:00 to 9:00. So I will be on *before* 6:00, and then not on again until after 9:00. So let's meet up at 9:00 or later. I should be able to play until about 10:30-11:00, depending on how tired I am tonight.
You can sign one petition per faction per server, I'd imagine. So if you wanted to start an Alliance guild on Silvermoon, you could. Then if you created a Horde character there, and wanted to start a guild, you could do that too.
Ruana, for example, has signed a guild petition for someone else, but he only has four signatures. If I bring her into Saffron's guild, then I'd imagine that the signature would disappear from this other petition (though I'm not sure). But I could keep her in the one she's set up for, and when he gets enough signatures, and have two characters in different guilds.
