I think I know what you mean. I was naughty and looked through a few of the later books, including Cerulean Sins and Obsidian Butterfly. It boggles me that Anita goes from being the way she is in the first two books (totally anti getting involved with Jean-Claude and compromising her ideals, etc.) to getting so involved w/ Richard enough that by book 5 or whatever he's her ex-fiancee and then she's taking JC for a lover. WTF? Not having read the books, of course, I'm like -- Whoa, did she turn into a completely different character?? I'm hoping that in context, the development will feel a lot more natural.

The later novels seem a lot more relationship and character focused, though not really in a good way, from the taste I got. (Again, am hoping that by the time I get to them for real, it'll feel a lot more 'natural.') From what I saw, it started to feel a lot like fanfic, what with all the drama and the changing love interests and threesomes and what not. Just from what I skimmed, I learned that in addition to JC and Richard, there's also Nathaniel (is that his name?) and Asher and someone named Micah, who I'm less clear on. And the most boggling part is that they're all creatures! I find this kind of a turn off, because I think what I find most compelling about Anita and her relationship with Jean-Claude is that he is everything she shouldn't want/love, but can't help herself. But if she's openly having relationships with werewolves and other vampires and such, it really takes away from that. Well, that's what bothers me, anyway. <g>

I probably don't know what the hell I'm talking about. I only know just enough to be dangerous. :D
