Comic Con madness
OK, I need help. Serious advice help from anyone who's been to Comic Con and can help me navigate this insane landscape. (
goddessvicky? Anyone? Haaaalllp.)
I've finally gone through all the offerings for the panels I'm interested in, on the days for which we have tickets. THERE IS AN INSANE AMOUNT OF STUFF TO DO. There's so much, in fact, that I kind of feel like I'm losing out because I can't see all of it -- or at least, all the ones I'm interested in. Surely there has to be a better way of doing this. Can't they sell "online" seats and put Comic Con on the Web? Just putting together this spreadsheet
adelagia created has exhausted me. The idea of having to physically go around to these various places seems an impossibility right now. Anyway, they should make Comic Con attendable online.
But it's not. And I'm leaving for San Diego on Tuesday. I can't believe how quickly it's come up.
The panels I've highlighted as ones I'm interested in all seem to take place in Hall H or Ballroom 20. >< I feel like I'm going to be spending most of my time in lines rather than actually seeing any panels. They're going to do the wristband thing for Hall H again, apparently, but from what I can tell, they're not really solving any issues. Basically, instead of lining up to go into the room, you have to get a wristband, which gives you priority to get in the room the next day. The thing is, though, they're only using the wristbands for the first panel of the day, so you have to be there by 7:30 a.m. if you want to actually get priority. But so okay -- now instead of lining up for the session, people will be lining up for the wristbands. How does this solve for the problem of line cutting or having to wait overnight? No matter what time they give the wristbands out, people will be lining up to get them! Which, in a way, makes it even worse, because now you might have to actually miss sessions to be in the wristband line, whereas before, you were just missing a night of sleep in your hotel room. Does anyone have experience with this? What am I missing? Does this "solution" actually work?
There are a few panels I'd like to see while I'm there (unfortunately, quite a few are at the same time, so as I don't have a Time Turner, I'm going to have to just pick one), but the one I realllllly want to see is the Game of Thrones one. It is, of course, in Hall H. But here's the issue. Even if I somehow get a wristband and I'm there at 7:30 a.m. the morning of to get into the venue, the GOT panel isn't until later in the afternoon. I'm likely going to be by myself for this one -- so, what, I can't get a bathroom break or food break? I just have to sit my ass in that chair from morning til whenever the GoT panel starts, because otherwise someone will poach my seat? I mean, sure, I could rely on the kindness of strangers to possibly save it for me, but it just seems like overall such a messy, inefficient way to do things. FIX YOURSELF, COMIC CON. :/
I feel like I'm going to actually be spending most of my time in the Playback Room (which is, annoyingly, in a totally different location) because I won't actually get in to see anything. (Almost like I could have just done it from my house, online!) That might even be okay except for the fact that none of the footage shown at the session gets shown during Playback. :/ Is the Playback Room very popular? Should I worry about even being able to get into that??
I wish I could sign up for individual sessions and have a guaranteed seat, and know exactly what I'm going to get to do and when. THAT would be the way to run this shebang. You know, like signing up for college courses. It's crazy how both organized and chaotic it feels, the way it's actually run.
