I'm not doubting your loyalty; I'm denying its existence.

Sooooo this morning I watched the second episode of Game of Thrones S2. Apparently it was available 4 days ago had I only looked for it at my favorite torrent place, but I didn't and it was Jade who alerted me. <3 I love the internets.

This might sound weird, but this episode made me feel really good about my rack. Or as Tilly from Miranda would say, my "chesticles." More TMI explanation (spoilery) under the cut.

- Seriously, the women in this episode had really weird-looking boobs. I'm thinking in particular of the girl Theon fucks on the ship, the captain's daughter iirc, but others as well. TMI now, look away if you don't care to listen to me talk about my boobs... I've always been kind of blah about my boobs, because they're nothing to write home about, size wise -- certainly they're not the glorious rack that [personal profile] akscully has -- and I've always thought that they looked average/normal. HOWEVER, this episode of GoT has made me rethink that. There were some seriously unattractive tits on the episode, in which they were not only small but oddly shaped and just weird looking. It really made me feel like my average boobs were actually quite gorgeous. LOL.

- OK, now off the topic of boobs, and into more serious matters, such as WTF ARE THEY DOING WITH STANNIS AND MELISANDRE??? Was it just me who NEVER got a sexual vibe from them in the books? I mean, I always kind of looked for it because, you know, Melisandre is like this sexy, sultry woman, and Stannis is a powerful man. But I never read/sensed any sexual subtext between them. Was I the only one??? Were they involved all along?

I mean, I liked the fact that their relationship wasn't sexual. That he could rely on this powerful priestess and not have sex have anything to do with it. It made them both much more interesting than just the usual story of two attractive/powerful people making the beast with two backs. I mean, am I wrong? Melisandre is ABOVE sleeping with a man to get what she wants, imho. It really takes away from her character to have her fuck Stannis. I really thought, especially after reading her POV in ADWD, that she truly believed in Stannis being Azor Ahai, and not because she was sleeping with him. I mean, she has ZERO sexual thoughts about him -- or about any past sexual relations she might have had with him. Then there's Stannis himself, the unyielding, cold man who lives and dies by rules. His protestation that he was married and had said vows was in character; his then giving in to Melisandre's advances, not so much.

It really takes away from the characters and the books to "TV-ize" the relationship, imho. That these two characters couldn't possibly not have a sexual relationship. Ugh. If someone can show me where in canon text it's implied that they do, I'll back down, but right now I'm really disappointed that they went there.

- I didn't remember this myself, but I've seen others talk about how they're also dumbing down Catelyn, making her be the typical 'mom' when in the books she's not like that, that it was HER idea to go offer an alliance to Renly, etc., that she well knows the import of everything that's happening and isn't just like, "I have to get back to Winterfell to my boys." I probably didn't remember because I've never liked her much, but in combination with what they've now done with Melisandre I have to agree that they're taking some pretty powerful women and making them into typical TV portrayals of what women should be like, rather than what they are in the book. -.-

- No Robb or Jaime in this ep. :(

- Asha is different from how I pictured, and not in a good way. First there's the fact that they changed her name, because I guess people are just too stupid to grok the difference between Asha and Osha (Bran's companion) -- I can't even remember what they changed it to, starts with a "T" -- but she's just way more drab than I had pictured. I mean, Asha in the books is another very powerful woman; the actress they've chosen just seems kind of...there. She doesn't seem all that charismatic, attractive or powerful. I'll give it a few more eps before rendering my final opinion, but it doesn't look good so far. In which case, this is strike three against the showrunners. (Of course, Theon is also way less than what I'd imagined him to be also. The Greyjoys are just overall disappointments I guess.)

- Loved the exchange between Tyrion and Janos Slynt, who is one of the characters I hated most in the books. Except I'm surprised this is coming so early. I had thought his getting sent off to the Wall happened later in the series! Not that I'm disappointed. BTW I don't think the actor they chose to portray him was all that great either. Janos is supposed to be slimy looking, someone you actively feel sketched out about on sight; this guy just seems like a regular dude, doesn't stand out at all. I love Tyrion's line; I can't remember if it was in the book: "Oh, I'm not questioning your loyalty; I'm denying its existence." Classic Tyrion. <3

- Also loved the exchange between Arya and Gendry, which was just like in the book... Gendry was so freaked out that he had said 'cock' in front of her, that he'd peed in her sight, that he was supposed to call her 'my lady' LOL!

- Also, WHAT are they doing with Littlefinger??? He is so much more subtle in the books than he is on the show. On the show he's so obviously evil; in the books it took awhile for that to sink in, and it was only a result of little things on top of little things that he would do, not any one evil act. But his scene with Ros doesn't even pretend to not be him menacing her. Also, does he own a whorehouse in the book? I do NOT recall us spending much time in a brothel in the books, or him ever being in one!

- OMG the TEETH on the girl who's playing Gilly. I mean, sure, she doesn't have to be all that attractive, given that she's the product of how many generations of incest -- I mean, was her mom Craster's daughter or granddaughter or what, you know? -- but that is like, one of the worst overbites I have ever seen. Ever. I loved the Jon/Sam/Gilly interaction though. Jon's clearly freaked out but trying not to show it and still being all polite. "What are you doing?" "This is Gilly." "Hello, Gilly. What are you doing?"

- One of the weakest episodes of the series so far, I thought. Hopefully they'll get better. :/
