I have found it helpful to segment 'humanity' into two distinct groups. I have no faith or love for humanity en masse. They are mindless sheep who make crappy decisions and exhibit bad things like the 'Bystander Effect'.
But on a one on one basis, people are wonderful. They have an endless capacity to delight and amaze by doing tiny things to show they, on some level, really do understand the world does not revolve around them and demonstrate a willingness to be kind to others. Individuals have limitless potential - Groups turn into mobs or something equally appalling. ~EV
