Television! Teacher, mother, secret lover.
Because
slitherhither asked... I compiled a list of my top 25 fave TV shows of all time. I was going to use a similar "tiered" structure that I used in this post, but decided that wasn't going to work if it was going to encompass such a breadth of good shows. I took a stab at actually ordering the list, which was very difficult, ESPECIALLY for the top 10, because frankly they could all be interchangeable in their slots, depending on how I feel on a particular day. The list is obviously liable to change as I get into new shows, watch more seasons of current shows, etc. The only criteria I used was "TV I love watching." It doesn't mean they've necessarily got any other acclaim or substance beyond that. I also left out shows that I loved as a kid (The Wonder Years, Quantum Leap), because it's been so long that I don't really know how they'd fit in the list or if they'd stand the test of time. All those qualifications stated...
In descending order:
25. The Vampire Diaries
24. House
23. Lost
22. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
21. Merlin
20. Game of Thrones
19. Fringe
18. Community
17. Parks & Recreation
16. Friday Night Lights
15. Arrested Development
14. How I Met Your Mother
13. Friends
12. Veronica Mars
11. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
10. Angel
09. Misfits
08. Firefly
07. Sex and the City
06. Battlestar Galactica (reboot)
05. Prison Break
04. The X-Files
03. Band of Brothers
02. Breaking Bad
01. Mad Men
The list of shows that were in consideration, but that I ultimately cut from the top 25 (in alphabetical order):
Boardwalk Empire
Dexter
Dollhouse
Downton Abbey
Gilmore Girls
Glee
The Good Wife
Heroes
Justified
Modern Family
My So-Called Life
Roswell
Seinfeld
Sherlock
Sons of Anarchy
The Sopranos
South Park
Sports Night
There are plenty of good TV shows that I haven't had time to watch... and plenty of ones that others really love that just didn't appeal to me. So this is just a list of the shows I've actually seen; if you don't see something on here, either I didn't like it enough for it to make this list, or I haven't seen it.
*BONUS*! Shows I actively dislike:
Desperate Housewives
Grey's Anatomy
Hawaii 5-0 (reboot)
True Blood
The West Wing
A coworker alerted me to an upcoming FX series, American Horror Story. It looks good, I'll have to keep an eye out. Not only does it star the wonderful Connie Britton, it's created by Glee creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk! Though it is obviously very different from Glee.
I am kind of annoyed with Trader Joe's... or at least, with this one particular branch. I went one day to get some Kerrygold butter, but they were out of the salted kind. They said they were getting more the next day. I went back a few days later, and they were out of both salted AND unsalted! Um... if the demand is so high, STOCK UP, amirite? And was told again that they would get more "tomorrow." GRRRRRR. I found it at Safeway, except get this... an 8oz package costs $4.79 there (at TJ's it's $2.89)! That means for $10, I could get a whole extra one and then some, at TJ's. The problem is that there isn't a TJ that's super conveniently near me, so going to one is like a special trip that I have to make.
