Describe dollop-head.
I'm finally caught up on S3 of Merlin! From now on I think I'll be watching episodes in 'real time,' since this time I really only had to wait a couple of weeks to get to 6 episodes, having started the show not too long ago. Plus 3x07 looks like a total squee-fest for those with my inclinations. :D
Totally random, disjointed, and in no logical order comments.
- The Crystal Cave was an excellent episode. Probably the best the show has done to date. Great writing, great acting, great direction. And it had a little something for everyone.
- Zomg Morgana knows about Gwen and Arthur's affections for each other! That is totally squee-worthy. She can now hold it over their heads/use it against them! Gosh, I'm such a bad shipper, I totally want them to suffer, lol. I loved that scene where she realizes what's going on under her and Uther's noses.
- Speaking of Morgana, I have mixed feelings about how she's suddenly totally evil now. On the one hand, she's more awesome now than she's ever been. On the other hand, what a two-faced bitch!
- OMG that scene in "The Changeling" when Gwen goes to convince Arthur to marry Elena, and Arthur looks all emo with tears in his eyes -- SO GOOD!
- Also, loved the end when he and Gwen have that oblique conversation and then he grins and runs/skips up the stairs like a dork.
- Definitely not as strong as episode as the writer's other episode, "Sweet Dreams" though. Couple of things I didn't much like: the retread of another princess threatening the A/G; the vague implication that if Elena hadn't been inhabited by a fairy, making her clumsy and undesirable, Arthur might not have been so opposed to marriage to her; and finally, that we were forced to watch him propose to her! Was that necessary? Couldn't that have happened off camera?! Not to mention the teaser, that was kind of a waste of time, too. We didn't need to see the baby get enchanted, we would have gotten that info from Grunhilda's visit to the pixies and seeing Elena's face change, anyway. Also, other than Arthur's expressions, the episode wasn't as funny as "Sweet Dreams," either.
- I'd heard such panning of "Goblin's Gold," but I actually quite enjoyed it. While the goblin itself was tedious, Gaius acting all out of character and everything else was pretty hilarious.
- The opening two-parter was sooooo long and boring, I'm sorry.
- Gwaine was, as others have said, a total retread of Lancelot. Seriously, they only have 13 episodes to do in a season, they can't come up with more original plotlines? Though of course I did enjoy Arthur's moment of jealousy at the end. :D
- I'm finding Colin Morgan more and more attractive. I'd like to write in some Merlin/Morgana into a story, if I could think of something compelling and believable to get them together.
- I am so looking forward to next week's episode!
I've also been watching The Vampire Diaries, which is definitely way more tolerable than Twilight, but uses some of the typical human girl-vampire guy stereotypes I am totally sick of. However, the show is worth putting up with for Ian Somerhalder alone. :D
Again, totally random commentary in no particular order.
- They could kill off Elena and Stefan and I'd still watch this show. It's all about Damon. The other two are totally boring (just like Sookie/Bill on True Blood).
- Elena is, unfortunately, the stereotypical human girl in love with a vampire. She barely has any personality outside of her love for the vampire in question. And their relationship is SO BORING. They're doing the Clark and Lana thing where they break up every week and it's SO TEDIOUS. Plus omg STOP IT with the "I must leave for your own good" crap. Gah.
- I also can't stand Elena's brother, Jeremy. What a little whiny emo bitch. Damon's fixed him for now, but I suspect that's going to change. I'm so sick of the whole him and Vicky thing -- I was pretty relieved when they finally killed her off.
- I really like pretty much like all the other characters, though. Bonnie (who is ridiculously gorgeous), Matt, Tyler (now that they're going the Logan Echolls route and giving him a little depth behind his jerk/rich boy facade), Alaric, and especially Caroline, who is probably my favorite female character.
- I didn't like Logan Fell, so I'm glad they killed him off, and I kind of wish the same thing would happen to Jenna, who I also find annoying.
- The biggest thing I'm finding annoying is that Elena doesn't seem the least interested in Damon (which I seriously don't understand). Like, not one whit. Granted I don't remember the books very well, but isn't the whole premise of the series (and the show) that it's supposed to be a love triangle? Right now there is only one in the sense that Damon seems prone to be indulgent toward her because of her resemblance to Katherine. But there's like, nothing on the part of Elena (except right now I'm watching the episode where he rescues her from the car crash and now they've met Zoe Washburn and are having a burger in a bar -- I love it!).
- Unfortunately I've been spoiled for a lot of things, so I know about Tyler being a werewolf and Caroline being a vampire.
- I wish Damon would take an interest in a girl other than Elena... I want some happiness for him, and to be able to ship something that's not totally hopeless, as it's obvious Elena's going to end up with Stefan. (Though given that it's Kevin Williamson, I do have a slight hope we'll get a Pacey/Joey situation going here. :D) I don't quite ship him with Caroline yet, maybe because he's SO mean to her, lol. Maybe once the S2 events happen...
- Okay, if Alaric isn't a vampire, who the hell turned Logan, lol?
- It's super annoying the way they keep having Damon get beat up on by other vamps (like Logan, who was a newborn, Lexi's boyfriend, Lexi herself, though that was okay because it was explained that as she was older, she was stronger), because he is supposed to be a badass!
- Jade tried watching this show (though not very carefully), but unlike me, was absolutely uninterested in anything BUT Damon. So I may, in my spare time, try to prepare a Damon-only reel for her, the same way she did one of Pacey/Joey for me, lol.
My faucet broke the other night. I have one of those ones that can pull out, which is super convenient for many reasons. Anyway, the faucet head broke off from the hose, with the plastic part of the head that screws into the hose still in it. So basically, I'd have to replace both the faucet head AND the hose, unless I could get that broken part out. Which would have been fine (I was able to get both parts at Lowe's for about $80), except that the part of the hose that connects to the water line was in a really inconvenient place, and I also didn't have the strength to unscrew it.
My only real hope, if I wanted to get it done myself, was to get the plastic thingy out so I could screw in the new faucet head. I tried and tried for like an hour to get it out with a flathead screwdriver, a hammer, etc. I tried to get it to unscrew and break it out, but it was stuck in there. Totally frustrated, I went and watched some VD and took a nap.
When I woke up, I got some matches, lit a candle, and held the end of the hose to it for several minutes. It took awhile, but eventually the rubber softened enough that I was able to pry it out with the screwdriver. I screwed on the new faucet head and viola! It's not a perfect fit but it was the only one Lowe's had. Also my kitchen smelled like burned rubber for hours. Still, yay for DIY home repair for $40. More than the money though, I REALLY did not want to have to do without a kitchen sink for any significant length of time.
