Note: OK, so remember when I said that this story was likely going to have 8 parts? I lied, it's going to be 9. [profile] jade_okelani insisted that I had to extend the ending to make it better. It's so annoying when she's right. Soooo there will be 2 more parts after this. Hope you enjoyed this one!

Now that all has been revealed, I'm going to be posting my [community profile] be_compromised Secret Santa Exchange story here for archival/anal completist purposes. If you read the fic at the comm, this one is nearly entirely the same. But because I can never leave anything well enough alone, I'm going through it again and finding little nitpicks that I'm fixing. >.> There shouldn't be anything significantly different.

Author's Notes: Apologies for the long notes, but I have a lot of people to thank! This story was written for [personal profile] ittykat as part of the [community profile] be_compromised Secret Santa Exchange. My prompt can be found at the end of the story; I don’t want to give away too much at the beginning! :-)

Thanks go out to a number of lovely ladies: [personal profile] anuna_81 and [personal profile] cybermathwitch for running a great exchange, [personal profile] ittykat for the fun and challenging prompt(s), [personal profile] daxcat79 for the awesome banner below, and my two tireless betas, [profile] jade_okelani and [personal profile] adelagia. Without Jade, I don’t know if this story would have gotten written. Parts of this story gave me fits while writing, and whenever I encounter a roadblock, I tend to avoid writing altogether. But she gave me daily writing assignments and encouragement, and little by little, it got done. Adelagia helped me remove one of those early roadblocks. I could not, for the life of me, figure out a way to do what I wanted to do, and on one of our foodie trips up to Vancouver we talked it through and she helped me find a solution. Hurrah! And of course, that’s on top of the beta duties they both took on after the story was done (when they both independently said that I needed to add a scene or two at the end, I agreed with their wisdom immediately. OK no, I kicked and whined and resisted, but ended up listening to them anyway, and of course now the story is better). I am blessed to have two such good friends who allow me to abuse them in this manner.

Author's Notes: Pre-Avengers. Like, waaaaaay pre-Avengers. Also AU. Waaaaaaaay AU. They're teenagers at summer camp. For the purposes of making this work, the characters are nearly all around the same age. Total fluffy crackfic. This was supposed to be written for the [community profile] be_compromised promptathon, but... yeah... I waved at that deadline as it blew past. But the prompt was from [personal profile] inkvoices: Kid/Teenage AU: Clint is at a music camp and either Natasha is too, or she's at dance camp or martial arts camp on the other side of the lake – except I made it the same camp and they’re in different classes and everyone co-mingles. The title comes from the movie Wet Hot American Summer, but isn’t any kind of crossover or inspiration, other than that it is also about summer camp. Many thanks to [profile] jade_okelani, who's betaing this for me, though she'll more than likely live to regret it. I'm pretty sure there's going to be eight parts. Okay, I lied. Nine parts.

I'm still on my Veronica Mars rewatch kick. There are many vids out there, most of which are mediocre. Partly that's because they're from 3-5 years ago, and of course, vid quality back then was pretty poor.

The "We Are Young" vid I shared in my last post is still the best gen vid I've found. (Speaking of, the vid makers don't say whose cover it is, but I drove myself crazy trying to find out, and I think I've figured it out. I think it's a manipulated version of Glee's cover. Which blows my mind, because I didn't particularly care for their cover of that song, but this manipulated version of their cover? I might love even more than fun.'s ORIGINAL version. WEIRD.)

I've dug through the muck and found a few others that are really worth sharing. Oh how I envy you guys getting to watch these for the first time! ;) I hope you like them as much as I did.

LoVe-focused vid that will make your heart ache, in a good way. )

LoVe-focused vid that will tear your heart to shreds. Oh, LOGAN. )

And now for something a little more upbeat. Veronica Mars is a badass. And CUTE. I have such a girl crush on Kristen Bell. )

In Avengers news, I have finally finished the draft of that story I've been working on! Hallelujah! I just need to majorly edit it and get it beta'ed, and then it will be ready to post, lol. Also I need to start deciding what the hell I'm going to write for the Secret Santa exchange. >.>
sarea: (if i were a zombie)
I have my Secret Santa assignment for [community profile] be_compromised. Eeeeee! Now I just need to figure out what the hell I'm going to write. It's not my prompter's fault; the prompts I got are totally fine. It's me. God help the person who got my prompts. My brain is always so all over the place. Before I can even think of starting this, though, I have to finish the story I'm so very nearly done with. I just have to write, like, half a scene. And do a ton of editing.

K and I went to an Italian cooking class the other night, held at one of my favorite local stores that sells high-end foodstuffs. They're the only local shop I've found that carries Desert Miracle, my favorite EVOO, so named because it's from a producer in Morocco (El-Borouj Olive Estate). Anyway, while I was there I hit upon the awesome idea that I could create a gift basket for a coworker's housewarming that I'm supposed to go to this weekend. He's not a foodie, but his wife is, so I think she'll appreciate it. I'm sooooooo excited about this basket, you don't even know. I WANT TO KEEP IT MYSELF. >.> But I won't. So far what I have in it is the aforementioned fave olive oil of mine, Scalia anchovies in oil, squid ink pasta, cranberry & hazelnut crisps, citrus blossom honey, and one of Tom Douglas's Rub with Love rubs. I did get plenty of things for myself while there. Also as a result of the class, I bought a reversible cast iron grill/griddle from Cost Plus that I am eager to put to use. :D

I have some fic recs, but they're not of the Avengers variety. I know, WHAT is the world coming to. It's particularly odd because one is for a show I've never actually watched (The Unusuals), while three are for a show I loved back in the day but never read fanfic for (Veronica Mars), plus a few others. Here's my plug for VM for anyone who hasn't seen it. It's sooooooooooo good. But don't just take my word for it. Stephen King was a fan. Joss Whedon and Kevin Smith were both such fans that they actually did cameos on the show. Quotes from Joss about VM: "I've never gotten more wrapped up in a show I wasn't making." "These guys know what they are doing on a level that intimidates me." "It's the Harry Potter of shows." "Best. show. ever." So if you don't trust me, trust Joss. But it was like Community and Firefly... a critical darling and cult favorite, but not popular with the masses, so it was canceled after 3 seasons. :-(

Anyway, onto the fic recs! )

I might be considering getting an Aeropress, which is YET ANOTHER way to make coffee. I think it's pretty much the last coffee-making contraption that I don't have (other than the most common of all, the drip). So when I have visitors, I'll be able to offer them an espresso, pour-over, French press, Keurig, or Aeropress coffee! .......yay.

I finally finished S1 of Homeland. It reminded of Line of Duty in that I found the storyline gripping, but I wanted to punch every character in the face.
sarea: (clint & natasha touchy feely)
On my list of things I never thought I'd ever have to do, which I wish were still on my list of things I've never done: Pull dental floss out of my cat's butt. Yeah, seriously, I don't know. Why would he pull that out of the trash and eat it? What the hell is wrong with him?! It was just as disgusting as it sounds.

I have now watched The Avengers with Joss's commentary. I usually don't like watching commentary tracks, regardless of who's commenting, but in this case I felt guilty NOT to, considering so many overseas fans are missing out completely. (Empire's tweet was hilarious: "It's Shawarmageddon all over again!") Plus Joss is funny as hell. But I have to say, I kind of wish I hadn't listened to it. :/ I really, really did not like what Joss had to say about Hawkeye or Jeremy Renner. I mean, maybe I'm just inferring things more negatively than they were meant, but after listening to what Joss had to say, I am now very pessimistic about the direction they're going to take both the Hawkeye character and his relationship with Black Widow. *sad face* )

UK fans who want Joss's commentary are apparently being encouraged by Disney to buy the U.S. Blu-ray (linking bundle I got), because the U.S. Blu-ray is region free (the U.S. DVD, which also has the commentary, is region 1 encoded, though). According to them, Joss recorded his commentary too late for the UK release (which, seriously Joss? I know you must be super busy, but think of your fans all over the world!). Their mistake, imho, was in thinking people would rather have the movie sooner, without the commentary, than wait, and get the commentary. It seems so OBVIOUS that that would not be the case. Anyway, they currently don't have plans to reissue a version with the commentary, because they don't feel that they can ask the fans to buy the movie twice. I thought that was a fairly reasonable alternative (though not ideal by any means), until I read that apparently there was some kind of fuck up with the transfer, and the UK got some other country's censored version of the movie, which edits one of the scenes (the death of one of the characters). There were some early conspiracy rumors that they did this to retcon the scene so that said character could actually come back to life at some point -- but I have to say, not only would that be super lame (especially since it'd only be true for part of the world), but having listened to Joss's commentary, I'm as convinced as I ever was that the character is dead and isn't coming back. Anyway, since the transfer error *was* actually a mistake, I think Disney ought to reissue/replace the discs for free, and if they do that, they might as well also include the Joss commentary. Edit: Also apparently the UK also doesn't have the shawarma scene, is this true? I have read differing reports. I always figured that "Shawarmageddon" would eventually pass, because while the scene wasn't filmed til after the movie had already premiered in many countries, there wouldn't be a reason not to include it on the DVD/Blu-ray version. O.o

I have now watched the first two seasons of Teen Wolf. I know many people love it, but god, what a silly show. I really only love Stiles. And I reallllllly love him. Derek's fine, but is hampered by the utterly silly werewolf mythology. I really like Erica -- or at least, I really like her origin story -- but they haven't developed her very well (or any characters who aren't in the opening credits, really). I want to like Lydia more than I do. I fucking HATE Allison, and Scott mostly bugs me also. Did no one notice when they cast Tyler Posey that HIS FACE IS CROOKED? OMG, it's so distracting. I've always felt that werewolves were kinda lame, and been far less interested in them than in vampires, witches, and other supernatural creatures. This show does not make me change my mind about that. When they "wolf out" it looks soooooooooooo fake and lame. >< They're not frightening at all; they just make me want to laugh. Whereas the vampires on The Vampire Diaries are actually scary looking (way more so than the vampires in the Buffyverse, which Teen Wolf's wolves remind me of -- but BtVS was made YEARS ago). Anyway, much of the mythology, 'plots,' and character development so far are dull at best and nonsensical at worst (the whole thing with Peter Hale is so WTF). I read my first Sterek fanfic the other day and it was good, but mostly because it was in Stiles's POV and very in character, so it was fun.

Very happy birthday wishes to [profile] jade_okelani. <3

I am very happy with my Tumblr queue at the moment. :D Bwahahaha

So suddenly [personal profile] adelagia and I are terrible at Pandemic. We don't know what's happened. Possibly it is just the Pandemic gods punishing us for our hubris. We got really good at it, even trying Legendary mode after 5 and 6 epidemics seemed like child's play. But the last few times we've played, we have sucked. We must have played 20 games without A SINGLE WIN. We had various role combos, some good, some bad. They all resulted in us letting the world succumb to horrible disease. We always played with purple and 6 epidemics. We refuse to go back to 5 for an 'easy' win, but 6 is totally owning us. :/ I refuse to believe that all the times we won before was a fluke!!

Last weekend T., [personal profile] slitherhither and I met up for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, then we went to see THE AVENGERS!!!! It was B.'s first time (and my seventh >.>), so that was awesome. Later we asked which of the guys she liked most, and she totally went against type (androgynous and thin) and picked Thor! Just goes to show, Chris Hemsworth is completely irresistible.

So I read this fanfic that started out very promising, but petered out by the middle for me. It was a Sherlock xover, and had John Watson taking over for Coulson in the Avengers handling department. I freaking love Watson/Martin Freeman, but I had several issues with the story as it progressed. Cutting in case of spoilers for the show/fic/etc. )

Celebrity quotes that have made me laugh recently:

- When asked if older sister Maggie ever beat him up, Jake Gyllenhaal responded, "Depends on what you call beating up. She performed the musical Cats for our parents, and she made me lick milk from a bowl while she sang, which was, in a way, abuse."

- Joshua Jackson on A Song of Ice and Fire: "I've got a slightly obsessive problem in that when I get into books, particularly a series of books, I cannot put the fucking things down. Nobody told me that the story is not done yet and that he takes, like, seven years between books. Last summer I plowed through something like 9,000 pages of A Game of Thrones and I finally started saying, 'Wow, that's weird. I don’t feel like there's an end coming.' I got to the end and my friend said, 'Oh no, it'll be like ten more years.' I grabbed him by the shirt, pulled him close and said, 'What?!! I will have kids in high school by the time these things are finished!'"

:)))))))))))))))))))))))))

Wow, work has been so insanely busy. It's been awhile since I talked about work crap, but that's going to be a different post.

I've realized that lately, I've been so focused on The Renner that my OTP (that isn't me/Jeremy) has been sorely neglected. So this post will be all about the Clint/Natasha (and also Rennerson, which is related) love. Mostly in the form of images, because I haven't done a whole lot of reading lately, and what I have read I've been ambivalent about, so... yeah. Very image intensive and occasionally NSFW. Ready? Let's go!

1) I want this to be true. Clint covers all his SHIELD reports in stickers and glitter. )

2) "Budapest Style." I know [personal profile] 13oct in particular will appreciate this. *snerk* )

3) Jeremy/Scarlett interviews always kill me. I hate you guys. )

4) Clint saves ALL THE BABIES. Never mind where they came from. )

5) There needs to be more fanart of Clint in his SHIELD jacket. All the sweet, sweet makeouts. )

6) "You and I remember Budapest very differently." Um, yeah, what Clint remembers is NSFW. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. )

7) And finally... While, unlike the entire internets, I am NOT Loki's biggest fan, I do feel for him here. Tellllll meeeeeeee. )
sarea: (clint does what I say)
Not that you needed any, but proof that I am an extremely lazy person:

1) I curled my hair this morning. I received so many compliments (2/3 comments came from GUYS, who never notice that sort of thing) about it that it was kind of embarrassing, because it was like, "OK, I GET IT, I guess my hair normally looks like crap." It took me a whole 8 minutes to do. And yet I never do it. That's just time I'd rather spend sleeping.

2) This guy creates amazing art using ball-point pens. BALL-POINT PENS. I cannot fathom the talent and patience required to do such a thing. And he's not even a full-time artist. He's a freaking attorney. A couple of my favorite images. )

3) I'm stealing this from [personal profile] adrith: ABC Greenlights "S.H.I.E.L.D" Marvel Pilot, Joss Whedon To Co-Write, Possibly Direct. Yay!! I'm curious to see what he's going to do with it. Different timeline? SHIELD agents we don't know? SHIELD agents we do know, but younger? SHIELD agents Joss has made up, rather than from the comicverse? Will he go totally AU? Will we see SHIELD agents as cowboys in space? TELL US JOSS. I assume actually that the studio'll want it to be relatable in some way to the movieverse, so that they can potentially have cameos and craft other spinoffs and sequels and etc., in order to better milk our wallets.

4) Instead of pretending like this is a real post I'll do this meme!! Which I have stolen from everyone on my flist. Thank you, flist, for enabling my laziness. Leave me one or more of these numbers and I shall provide an honest answer (**as bonus fun, I will attempt to answer in a .gif or other image if I can :D**):

1 - Your current OTP
2 - A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind
3 - A pairing you have never liked and probably never will
4 - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t
5 - Have you added anything stupid/cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what
6 - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom
7 - Do you remember your first OTP, if so who was in it

9 - Has the internet caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why
10 - Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over tumblr the internet
11 - How do you feel about the other people in your current fandom
12 - Your favorite fanartist/author gives you one request, what do you ask for
13 - Your favorite fanart or fanartist
14- Your favorite fanfiction or fanauthor
15 - Choose a song at random, which OTP does it remind you of
16 - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas)

25 - A fandom you’re in but have no ships from
26 - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go
sarea: (jeremy. and rope.)
1) Why. Why is Sunday already almost over? Why do weekends pass so quickly?? /SOB The only good thing about Sundays is that I have Breaking Bad to look forward to... except there are only two episodes left in this season cryyyyyyyy.

2) OK, I have taken a moment to pull myself together. I did so by watching this Firefly-style Avengers intro for the billionth time. If you haven't seen this yet, what are you waiting for? Take my love, take my land... )

3) I made cheese yesterday! Three kinds to be exact. One gallon of whole milk (well, just shy of a full gallon, I also made waffle batter and needed to take some) yielded: 11oz mozzarella, 4oz ricotta, and 2oz gjetost. (Links go to the methodology for each.) Except I messed up on the gjetost, I didn't pay enough attention at the end and the bottom of my pot is totally burned. >< Boy is that going to be a bitch to get out.

4) I did all my other dishes, though, which was a lot (and I haven't even made pesto yet, which I need to do by EoD). I told myself I could have a nice cup of coffee as a reward. Except I do not like this roast at ALL. It's some kind of Sumatra roast that I got at Whole Foods. I was picturing this idyllic time where I could browse Tumblr and drink coffee and now that dream has been shattered. </adult tantrum>

5) <consoles self with two new "Woman, this is Jeremy fucking Renner Talking" meme images> They just get better and better. )

6) You guys, you know I love all things Hawkeye... well, I thought I did, anyway. But this is just no. )

7) Remember how I was all excited about my new Blu-ray player and the fact that it could stream stuff wirelessly? I started watching Mad Men S5, and every 10 minutes, the player would say "cannot play." It doesn't have the best ffwding functionality (and besides, how annoying is it to have to ffwd to your last spot every 10 minutes?), so it was driving. me. crazy. I called Panasonic, which said that the player requires a minimum speed of 6Mbps, so I needed to call Comcast. I have pretty slow internet at home -- it's 3Mbps -- but it suffices for 99% of what I want to do. However, I have upped it to the next level (12Mbps -- that's right, there's nothing between 3 and 12 -.-) to see if it works. If not, I'll have to return the player as it's defective (and it doesn't even have resume playback functionality, which I assumed it would, like my Panasonic DVD player!). And if it does, I'll have to pay double what I currently pay for internet if I want to keep that speed. THERE'S NO WINNING.

8) Clearly, it's time to calm myself again. I think this time I will use... Jeremy in glasses. I know [personal profile] adrith will appreciate this. Glasses + arms = ded. )

9) OH OH OH I have another video rec to share. It's called "Reaching as I Fall" and it's about Hawkeye and Trickshot (as in Clint's brother Barney, not his circus mentor). It's flipping awesome because not only is it well put together, the artist used NORMAN REEDUS to play the part of Barney. OMFG at how much I'd watch a Hawkeye origins movie with that kind of casting. I know [personal profile] laria_gwyn would agree with me. Right? RIGHT??? 'Reaching as I Fall' )

10) I have nothing else to say so I will leave you with some Avengers porn. You heard me. )
